Emma was having a very peculiar dream. She was sitting on a cloud floating through the sky. Suddenly, a light shone from above. She looked up in surprise and saw her great great (etc) grandma, Eleanor, from the 1400's smiling down at her.
"Eleanor? What's going on?" Emma asked in bewilderment.
"I'm here to tell you something very important, my child." Eleanor explained, smiling kindly and floating down onto the cloud next to Emma.
"Why?" Emma wondered, looking at her ancestor, feeling confused, but she was really happy to see her, even if it was only in a dream.
"Because you want answers." Eleanor began. "You want to know why your blood healed Kowalski so quickly, don't you?" Emma nodded in response.
"I guessed it's something to do with our powers that we had." Emma thought aloud.
"Oh, it's much much more than that." Eleanor answered, smiling sweetly. "C'mon, lets take a walk." She said, taking Emma's flipper and walking through the clouds. They came to a small hut, which appeared out of nowhere. Emma peaked inside, and saw her great grandma, Charlotte, from the 1100's sitting on a wooden stool, next to a little fire. Then someone walked in and Emma looked at the figure in amazement. It was a creature she had never seen before. It had the shape and body of a penguin but it had almost completely black feathers, with a few white markings on it's side, and a small white bit around it's snout and mouth. It's ears were sharp an pointy, and it had small little paws, but flippers too. It had dark green eyes, the same shade as the grass in the rain forest. The creature went up to Charlotte, and hugged her affectionately, which made Emma's eyes widen.
"Who, or what is that?" Emma asked, looking astonished.
"That is Charlotte's husband, and one of our ancestors. His name is Shane Sebastian Swift, and he's an ancient animal called a Rhonchaser."Eleanor explained. "And I know you're about to ask, so I'll tell you that Charlotte never mentioned him, because his race was a secret to all of the world, as they possessed an ability that allowed them to heal people with there blood. The species has been extinct for about 900 years, since the last one is standing right there." Eleanor said. "Most of them were bad, and were hunted by the handful of people on earth who knew about them, but Shane was good."
"So why wasn't their kid a cross breed of both of them?" Emma asked, curiously.
"The child actually was, but not in any physical way." Eleanor began. "The gene was passed down, but the child looked like any other penguin."
"So, if Shane could do this, why didn't the abilities only pass down to us?" Emma wondered.
"Darling, that's like asking why Charlotte's abilities only passed down to us. It's all about genes, and chance. But I've realised that someone can only have Shane's ability, if they have Charlotte's too." Eleanor answered, smiling at her great grand daughter.
"So why have I still got it then, my powers were lost." Emma asked, looking even more confused.
"Because the power is still inside of you my dear." Eleanor replied, sweetly. "You just have to find out how to tap into it." Emma was bursting with questions, she didn't know what to ask next. Eleanor seemed to know this, and she smiled at Emma. "What else do you want to know?" She asked. Emma took a deep breath.
"So, I'm not fully penguin, how did you know all of this, how do I tap into my powers, and, urm, what happens after you die?" Emma burst out, breathing deeply.
"Firstly, no your not fully penguin, but you are mostly penguin, you only have a small part of Rhonchaser in you, secondly, Charlotte came to me in a dream, just like I am now, thirdly don't spend time trying, it will come to you naturally, but I don't know when, and lastly, I can't tell you sweetheart, but what I can tell you is that you'll see your dead family, and friends again, but none of the religions are correct." Eleanor answered. Eleanor looked at a clock that appeared out of nowhere, and her eyes widened. "Goodness, I need to go, you'll be waking up soon." She said, and she began to walking through the clouds.
"Eleanor wait, I've got one more question." Emma called, Eleanor turned back at her. "Is this real?"
"Of course my darling." Eleanor replied simply and disappeared into the clouds. Emma woke up suddenly, and she glanced around her. She quickly picked up a pen, and wrote down everything that Eleanor had just told her, on a piece of paper and put it in her drawstring bag. That was one of the most incredible experiences of her life. She got out of her bunk, her head still buzzing with what she had just learned. As she walked up to the table, she realised that all of the members of her family from Charlotte's side weren't fully penguin, her mum, her nan, her mums brothers, and their kids, and even Skipper and Rico.
"Morning sis." Skipper greeted, crashing Emma's train of thought.
"Hi Skips." Emma replied, only half listening. She made herself some cereal and sat down, eating slower than usual. Emma glanced around, and realised that Kowalski was still in his bunk, and Private and Rico were watching Tv. She glanced at the clock which read 12pm. Training would be starting soon, though Emma didn't really care at the minute. She started thinking about Kowalski, and how the blood healed him.
Wait a minute, if my blood can heal people, can it only heal people with my blood type? She thought. A few seconds later she head a small pinging sound from her bag. She looked inside and saw that the diary was glowing. Her eyes widened, and she opened it excitedly. There were words written in fancy gold handwriting on a page that never had any words on before. Emma read it curiously.
Emma your blood will actually heal anyone, because even though you blood type comes up as a AB negative, you are actually a EE negative, a blood type which is unknown and only runs in this family, and it's compatible with all other blood types. Emma read. She recognised the handwriting and she smiled, closing the diary. A few seconds later she heard Kowalski wake up, which made her smile happily.
"Hey Kowalski, how are you today?" She asked, turning around to face him.
"I'm really good, I don't even feel like I was clawed by a monkey yesterday." Kowalski replied cheerfully. "How about you?" He asked.
"I'm pretty good today." Emma answered, smiling at him shyly. "Hey do you wanna carry on with the shrink ray?" She asked.
"Sure." Kowalski replied, and the two of them walked into the lab, butterflies filling their stomachs.
"Eleanor? What's going on?" Emma asked in bewilderment.
