A sharp ring of a bell was heard, and in the center of the catacombs was a beam of light, concentrated on the floor. In the light, the goods were seen in clear sight: A ten-pound crate of Alindrozin Permeas. A tall penguin stood on it, holding a microphone firmly and shouting.
"Start the bidding at ten thousand!" he shouted.
As the bidding became more rapid and tense, Hannah, Kowalski, Skipper, and Rico found their seats in a long table, each with a numbered card, presumably for the bidding. Hannah saw the empty spot next to her read "The King". She knew that he'd be here, as a boss never leaves their respective mob, but she was unable to locate him among the revelers in the transaction.
"One hundred, one fifty, going once, going twice, SOLD! To D-45!" he shouted again.
The crate was promptly taken away, replaced with an even larger container: A five hundred pound crate of the Red Death, purified in a filtered crate.
"Bid starts at nine hundred thousand, can we go higher?" asked the penguin.
Hannah then got an idea.
"Two million!" shouted Hannah, inciting a collective gasp from the crowd.
"Woah, two million, do we got three?" asked the auctioneer.
"Hannah, what're you doing?!" hissed Skipper with frustration.
"If I can get King Dewey to bid against me, I'd be able to find him for questioning!" she explained quickly, trying not to arouse suspicion.
Various others called three, then four million, until Hannah dropped another shock.
"One hundred million!" she yelled.
Another gasp ensued, and the auction seemed to almost end in her favor.
"One hundred, going once, going twi-" shouted the penguin, interrupted by a booming low voice.
"ONE BILLION DOLLARS!!" exclaimed the male voice.
"Going once, going twice, SOLD! ALL HAIL THE KING!" shouted the auctioneer.
A loud applause followed, as several mobsters and dealers in the crypt cheered on the success of their boss.
"Let's roll boys!" he shouted, gesturing his subordinates to leave with him.
Hannah spotted him easily at that point: He was standing by the entrance of the crypt, he was easily taller than Damion and Hannah, and certainly dwarfed Skipper and Private.
"Christ, I swear I saw that tub of lard as Miley Cyrus's wrecking ball!" laughed Hannah, then stopped herself before raising suspicion.
"So there's the King, I say we should take him down!" said Skipper, being pulled back by Hannah.
"Are you insane? You lay a flipper on the guy a certain way and his mobsters will shoot you dead before you can say "Oops". Instead, let's approach without showing open hostility," said Hannah.
"Fine, though I'm sure we could easily take these low-lives," responded Skipper with a frustrated sigh.
"You'll get your chance sometime," chuckled Hannah, heading toward King Dewey.
She came close to him and engaged eye contact as he approached a back exit from the crypt.
"Hannah?" asked King Dewey.
"Hannah Faustina, yes," said Hannah in response.
"What the hell are you doing here? I thought you were bribing the officers at the cartel!" he shouted in astonishment.
"Change of plans sir, The Kid's got em," she stated.
As the words were said, the gathering froze, some mobsters stopped instantly, traces of fear and frustration.
"Excuse me?" asked King Dewey.
"Heard right boss, he's taken the cartel, Joe's dead, Kate's dead, Ham gone," said Hannah, remembering gathered intelligence from the Imperial Bureau.
"Jesus, Ham was my best guy, where the hell did he go?" asked Dewey, looking at her with a soft gaze.
"I don't know, but I managed to escape the gunfire with the vest and came to ask if you know anything about The Kid," said Hannah.
"Well I-" he sighed, "I'm glad you aren't dead 'hun, but, back to the matter at hand, I do know a little bit, why?" asked the King.
"I need to know so that we can prevent repeated attacks on our-" Hannah paused, hearing a loud bang, the side of the crypt blown open.
A sweep of mobsters soon mowed down the underground cartel, the East Side Mob falling within minutes of gunfire, with this, Hannah and Skipper fled as soon as possible, slipping behind the crowd of revelers and escaping. A familiar silhouette came into the crypt, the glare of the light reflecting off a recognizable pair of goggles sitting atop a grin of satisfaction.
"Sorry I had to kill the old bastard, but I found yooouuu!" shouted the figure.
"Oh my god, it's him," said Hannah, hiding behind a coffin and listening into the confrontation.
"It's you!" shouted King Dewey.
A throng of mobsters instinctively aimed, only to be gestured away by the Kid.
"Come now, guns won't solve this one. I'm here for your "niece", miss Hannah Freeze, and I'd like to know where her sorry ass is," responded The Kid.
"Hey! You can't get into my operations and think you can get away with it!" shouted King Dewey, a burnt in expression of hate in his eyes.
"Start the bidding at ten thousand!" he shouted.
