Dear Daddy,
Why did you have to leave mummy and me?
I really miss you.
Can you please come back?

Dear dad,
Are you ever going to come back?
I remember the times that we would go to the park and fly kites.
I really wish we could do that again.
Please come back.

Dear Dad,
Today was my 16th birthday.
Why didn't you come to the party?
The necklace was nice, but I really wish you could have been there.
Are you ever gonna come back?

Dear Dad,
I have a boyfriend now.
Unlike you, HE truly loves me.
Why don't you love me, dad?
What did I ever do to make you stop loving me?

Dear dad,
I wish you hadn't been absent during my teenage years.
I slept with my boyfriend. Became pregnant.
I gonna go for an abortion tomorrow. I dunno what else to do.
Please, dad. If you're not coming back, please tell me what to do.

A father sat on his couch, reading the letters that his daughter had sent him over the years. He had never answered any of them, mostly because of regret. ' Oh, stop kidding yourself, Joe. You need to gather up the courage to see her, ' he told himself.
He wearily got up out of his chair to collect the mail for that day. He noticed that one was from his daughter. He opened it and it read
Dear dad,
I now have a lovely little girl.
It's her birthday tomorrow. If you could come down, it would mean the world to both of us.
Please dad. I would give almost anything to see you again.
You gotta know dad. I still love you, even if you don't love me.
Grace
His eyes welled up with tears. How could she still love him after he had abandoned her? ' Now is your chance, Joe! Go see your daughter and granddaughter tomorrow!' he told himself.
The next day, he drove down there.
Grace was out front with her little princess, when a car pulled up. The car looked familiar, but she couldn't be sure. The HE stepped form the car. 'Dad?' Her voice was barely a whisper, as she teared up, and ran towards him. She forgot about her own daughter and threw her arms around him. "Oh, dad!" After tears and and an introduction, his father pulled away a bit and looked into her eyes. "Oh, Grace, honey. I am so sorry. Please.." his voice trailed off, and he pulled her close to himself.
"Dad, it's alright. I forgive you. It's okay. I love you."
His granddaughter, Caitlin tugged on his jumper. "Grandpa," she said. "I love you, too." Caitlin was joined in the hug.
Joe drove back later that afternoon, and as her went to sleep that night, those words kept echoing in his head:
"I forgive you dad. I love you."
