Chapter Six
"What Is And What Should Never Be (Part One)"
Maya Herrera and Eden McCain - Manhattan, New York
"Wait," Maya said, suddenly struck by an idea "what's the date?"
After giving her a quizzical look, Eden flung her a newspaper. It was October the 2nd... 2006. That means...
"Do you know a man named Mohinder Suresh?" Maya suddenly asked, looking up from the newspaper.
"Not y- how do you know about Mohinder Suresh?" Eden asked, the note of suspicion rising once again in her voice. "He just moved in across the hall."
"What? Then this is the day he gets attacked - you must be the one who helps him! Go!" Maya shouted, as Eden stood, bemused. As she said this, they heard footsteps again outside and a door opening.
For a while Eden stood, looking curiously at Maya, who assumed she suspected a trap, which only led her to further suspect her - what was Eden up to? Why was she so interested in Mohinder? And why did she have so much information on people with abilities? Making up her mind, Eden suddenly rushed from the room "Don't move" she called on her way out.
Maya's limbs froze listening hard she heard muffled voices and a struggle in the hall. Suddenly it stopped and she heard Eden say "If you're the exterminator, why do you have a gun holster?" before some more scuffling, then Maya heard something that made her heart stop in her chest.
"Thanks for coming to my rescue" came a shockingly familiar voice.
"You're welcome" Eden replied
"Mohinder Suresh"
A few minutes later and Eden re-entered the room under the pretence of fetching a book to show Mohinder, releasing Maya, who was finally able to wipe the tears from her face. "Find that man" Eden said in a low, serious voice before turning around and yelling "Found it!"
Maya quietly crept from the apartment and ran down the stairs, taking them five steps at a time. As she left the apartment block she saw a woman picking up shopping on the street. Assuming the man had knocked her on his way past, Maya raced in that direction, until she spotted a plain white van, about to pull off a little way away, with a man dressed as an exterminator behind the wheel. I don't think so, Maya thought to herself, before shooting out the tires, causing people to run and scream.
"Move over" she ordered, opening the drivers side door and climbing in.
