TWELVE MONTHS AGO
The group of twelve ran through the dust and debris on a specific mission. A couple of hours ago this part of New York had been destroyed. They fanned out and slowed their pace. Turning on their head torches they scoured the ground. They carried on. One of them yelled and they all ran over. Looking down they had found what they were after. Crushed under a cement block lay a broken man. Sylar.
SIX MONTHS AGO
Dr Simmons lay crumpled on a bed. He had been unconscious for the past 24 hours. Slowly opening his eyes he took in his surroundings. He wasn’t in a hospital he knew that for sure. But there were still hospital machines around him and an IV running into his body. He tried to lift his arms and to his surprise he felt them restrained with what must have been handcuffs. He groggily sat up as best he could. The events of the previous day came back to him. He hoped the boy got away. Looking around for a second time he realise he was in some sort of a cell and he also noticed the shape of an armed guard through the, what must have been bulletproof, glass pane in the cell door. The door opened. A man entered dressed in a full suit that Simmons knew he must always wear. “Hello Henry” the man addressed him giving him a smile. “How do you know my name?” Simmons wheezed “We know all about you Henry that show you gave us at the hospital yesterday was most intriguing.” Simmons got slightly annoyed. Wheezing less he spoke again “Stop calling me Henry!” The man smiled again. “Okay then, I’ll call you by your surname from now on and please try to refrain from talking. Anyway Simmons I don’t know where you learnt those moves from as you don’t have any military training that I can see.” Simmons went to talk again but the man raised his hand. “That doesn’t matter anyway. Now I want you to listen to me now as you may find this a bit unbelievable and hard to understand. My name is Nathan Petrelli. I am senator for New York. I am on a mission to round up certain people that possess how shall I say, extraordinary abilities. These abilities are different for different people. They can manifest as abilities such as regeneration, teleportation, levitation. I know it sounds incredulous but you witnessed yesterday that James Canning is no normal human being. We believe he possesses super speed and super strength.” A sign of recognition came onto Simmons’s face. Nathan continued “I am telling you this because as you may have guessed sometimes these powers can cause problems and there are certain people who use these powers to commit terrible deeds. I would like you to come to work for me. It says in your file you have studied medicine and IT. We could use both of those assets to both track these people but also to provide healthcare for them. We are doing this solely for theirs and everyone else's protection. I will leave it for now and I will return tomorrow when you should be feeling better and have had time to think it over.” With that Nathan turned and left leaving Simmons sitting there in stunned amazement.
ONE DAY LATER
Simmons was out of his bed being allowed out of the restraints and sitting in a chair. There were a couple of books in his cell and he was currently half way through Great Expectations. There was a knock at the door and looking up he saw Nathan enter. “Good Morning Simmons.” Nathan said extending his hand in greeting. Simmons accepted it “Good Morning Senator.” He replied. Nathan drew up another chair “Have you had time to think over my proposal” he queried. Simmons sat in silence for a minute. “I have senator and i accept your offer. I will help you under one condition. Some of these people are good people I must know that these won’t be hurt” he insisted. Nathan looked up and smiled “Trust me Simmons, some of these people are close friends of mine. I give you my word they won’t be harmed. They will only be confined to protect people but the ones that are not good people may well be harmed or even killed as long as they are never on the streets again.” Simmons nodded he understood. “When can I get out of this place then and start working” he asked. Nathan smiled again. “I’ll get that sorted now; you can start work in a week so you have some more time to prepare. But before I go I want to inform you on what you will be doing. As I said before you will be leading a team to help track down people and sometimes may be needed to capture them. However I also want you on a project we have set up. It is called Project Superstition. We have had under our custody a man named Sylar who is the most dangerous person with powers and has killed many. We have recovered his body and are monitoring him. I would like you to make sure he stays like that and you must keep him alive.” Simmons looked puzzled. “Why are you keeping him alive? If he’s as dangerous as you say surely you should kill him.” Nathan thought for a moment, considering “It’s complicated” he said and with that he stood up and shook hands again “Good to have you on board Simmons”. Nathan then walked out the door.
THREE DAYS AGO
Simmons sat at his desk working away on his 4 computer screens. Three of them he was using to find people with various different programmes. The fourth showed the vitals of Sylar. Nathan walked in. “Alright Simmons” Simmons didn’t look up “Hey Nathan”. Nathan sat down with Simmons and placed some files down. Simmons looked up. “These are the files on 9 people. They went off the radar a couple of hours ago and I need you to stop looking for other people and focus on these. Some are dangerous but some we just want to help like James Canning.” Simmons reacted to the name and instantly picked up the folders. “I will do it sir” Nathan nodded and left. Simmons dropped 8 of the files back onto the table and picked up James’. He started working straight away. He needed to find this boy.
