Chapter Five
"Where No Man Has Gone"

Alexis - Unknown Location

"What do you want from me?" Alexis asked the man, who was now staring at her, his arms folded in front of him.

"I hear you've manifested." he stated, with apparent interest. "Care to demonstrate?" As he said this, the two armed guards made an obvious movement as they aimed squarely into Alexis' face.

"I don't know what you mean..." she said evasively, looking at her feet.

"No? Then let me jog your memory" he pulled a mobile phone from the inside of his lab coat and held it up, to show a recording of her impaling one of the men sent to recapture her. Alexis looked up to see him pointing a dart gun at her neck. "I'd like to see how that works...". Everything faded into nothingness once more...

Opening her eyes, this time Alexis found herself in a larger room. The walls and floors where made from some kind of white tiled material and there seemed to be no windows or doors. No way out.

"Hello?" she called.

"Hello, Alexis" came the electronic, disembodied vocie again. "You're to demonstrate your ability, please begin."

"But I don't know how!" she called in response, truthfully. No response came.

Annoyed, Alexis stared at her fingernails, willing them to change and sprout the green growth things again. "Come on..." she mouthed to herself, focusing intensely. Nothing happened. She suddenly flicked her arm as hard as she could in front of her. Nothing happened. "It's not working!" she shouted.

Meanwhile...

"Where am I? And where is my friend?" Mohinder asked, as a tall man in a white lab coat entered his cell, escorted by two armed guards.

"This is a uh... private organisation. We specialise in scientific research." he told Mohinder, vaguely.

"I see. And I take it this 'research' isn't exactly a weekend hobby, is it?" Mohinder challenged him

"Ah... no" the man admitted, with yet another of his self-satisfied smiles. "You and your friend are going to be included in a little project we're currently undergoing."

"Project?" Mohinder questioned, anxiety building.

"Don't worry." he assured Mohinder "If successful, you should both benefit greatly."

"Are you talking about... abilities?"

"Oh, I see you know more than would be expected." the man said, partly impressed, but also with an air of sudden suspicion and slight fear. "Do you have an ability?"

"See for yourself!" Mohinder yelled, launching himself at the man, and holding him in front of himself, as a human shield against the guards. He launched the man at them, knocking them out of the room at to the floor.

As he ran forwards, the door began to snap shut, though Mohinder managed, just in time, to thrust a hand out and stop it. It took a lot of force, but he managed to open it just enough to squeeze through, before it snapped shut again. As he passed, he took the two guns from the guards.

He shot at the nearest glass wall, but nothing seemed to happen. It seems they were extremely reinforced and therefore practically impossible to break. As he jogged down the corridor, unfamiliar faces flashed by. People in cells. Many were asleep, but some had pressed themselves against the walls to see what was happening. "I'm sorry" Mohinder mouthed at a young asian girl, possibly about 10 years old as she looked at him pleadingly. He had no way of helping them.

After a long run he reached a large, metal door. Similar to the ones used in aircraft hangars. (The facility must be underground, Mohinder thought to himself, as it was far too large to be kept off the radar, as he assumed it must be). It was too large to force open, even for him. To the side was another metal door. He peered through a small square window to the side.

Looking through, he saw what looked like an operating theater. A stretcher with restraints held an unfamiliar young man in place, despite him being unconcious as various 'surgeons' operated. As one moved aside, Mohinder saw they were operating on his exposed brain, the top of his head removed.

"This is the start of something... incredible" came the man in the lab coat's voice, as Mohinder whipped around to find a gun pointed at his face. "And like it or not... you're going to be a part of it."

Dorian smiled. "Amateur art community is smaller than you'd think in New York." she paused. "At least good ones. Isaac and I would compare paintings and ideas. We would even paint together sometimes. That picture was taken on one such day." Her smile fell slightly. "What happened to him...didn't have to happen. But he understood that it had to happen. He died a hero."

Mohinder raised his eyebrows. "You certainly know a lot of what's gone on in the past few years." he said.

"Thing about being underground, you hear rumors, and you don't get noticed when you collect information."

Mohinder nodded....

Dorian nodded. "Yes, we share a last name." she said. "I know what you are thinking." she added. "We do not share the same DNA. Gabriel used to say it was like we were meant to be friends."

"How long has it been since you've seen one another?" Mohinder asked.

"A long while." said Dorian.

"Does he know about your ability?" asked Mohinder.

"No." she said. "I never told him. I was...afraid to. Had I known that he, too had an ability, I might have told him."

"You would have been signing your own death certificate, doing that." said Mohinder.

"Maybe. Maybe not." she said. "There's no way to tell now,...

Mohinder swallowed, his eyes still wide. "...as a daughter..." he said finally aloud, his fingertips still on her neck.

Dorian nodded, turning to face him, and dropping her hair. "Yes." she said.

Mohinder lowered his hand slowly. "He called you a daughter to him?" he said, in almost disbelief.

Dorian nodded once more. "I know why it is..." she paused, searching for the right words, "a big deal, that he said I was like a daughter to him." She looked down, and a dark curl fell across her eyes. "He mentioned your sister." she said softly. "He said more than once... that he saw her in me."

Sadness...

Silence fell briefly.

"Molly, why don't you go settle yourself into one of the spare rooms?" said Dorian. "You might like the one with the dream catcher on the door."

Molly nodded, picking up her bag, and going down the small hall, to the door that Dorian had mentioned.

Dorian looked back to Mohinder. "Now that we have Molly," she said, "not that I want to... use her, or anything, but we can. And now that I've mastered Astral Projection, I can go to them, without leaving."

Mohinder nodded slowly. "No, yes, you're right. Molly would be able to help greatly." He looked back to the pictures on the...

Top Floor of A Car Park, New York

A car crashed into the back of Peters cab. The front of the cab went flying into a low wall in the car park and it made Peter come out the windscreen. He was in the sky and there was no floor underneath him any more. Peter was thinking back to the last person he met with abilities to see who it was.

Peters thoughts before he fell:Do I have Claires ability? No. Mohinders?... Oh no Sylar. Did I take his ability?

Then he fell on the floor... He was dead... But then he regenerated and ran off...

Meanwhile at the Car Park

A man got out the car that crashed into Peters...

Mohinder Suresh - Goverment Holding Facility, Outskirts of New York

The hours ticked by. It could have been weeks, days, hours - Mohinder had no concept of time inside his small, windowless cell, lit by a single hanging lightbulb, but it seemed he'd been there his whole life already, with nothing but his endless supply of worries to keep him company.

Thoughts of Monica, Micah, Molly and Maya drifted through his mind... surely Monica had reached Maya by now - before he'd left, he'd called one of his cab drivers to take take Monica and the kids to meet up with Maya, who were...

Mohinder sat in the living room, in silence. Dorian had locked herself in her room nearly an hour ago. What was going on?

A moment later, she emerged from her room at last, stretching slightly.

Mohinder stood. "What were you doing!?"

Dorian just smiled, and nodded to the wall as the door slid open.

Confused, Mohinder turned and looked, as Molly stepped in slowly. His eyes widened.

"MOHINDER!" Molly shouted with a smile as she ran up to him, dropping her backpack on the floor as she threw her arms around him.

"Molly!" Mohinder returned the hug and closed his yes, one hand on Molly's head. He was happy....

Dorian dimmed her lights, and sat in the center of her bed, her legs crossed. She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. And another. And another

Molly sat in her room, coloring a picture. She didn't like it here very much. She wanted to see Officer Parkman, and Mohinder again. She sighed, as she had a feeling it wouldn't happen.

A map, and a small bowl of pushpins sat on the table beside her. She would always check to see where they were, just to make sure that they were safe. Alive.

She looked up, and gasped suddenly, standing and taking a step back. "Who are you? Where'd you come...

Mohinder's eyes widened, and his throat went dry. "They...they know where Molly is?" he asked, a plead in his voice.

"Yes." she said. "But so do I."

"What are you waiting for then!?" Mohinder said, taking a step towards Dorian, his fear and distrust of her forgotten. "Why haven't you gotten her?!"

"I'm waiting for the right time." she said. "You should never rush into anything. Urgency is not always the best course with urgent matters."

Mohinder raised an eyebrow. "Biding your time while lives are being ruined isn't the right course of action, either." he said.

Dorian nodded. "I understand that."...

Dorian's eyes did not leave his.

"I'm not going anywhere." he said at last after a long pause, against his better judgment. His curiosity, at this moment, was stronger.

The door thudded closed.

"The government." she said finally, walking over to the mantel, replacing the photograph.

"The government?" asked Mohinder, his eyebrows raised.

"And Nathan Petrelli is at the reigns." she added as her eyes met Mohinder's again.

"Petrelli?" he asked in disbelief. "but he's-"

"One of us." she finished for him. "I know."

"How do you know all of this?" he asked her.

"I listen." she said. "Plus, I'm a hacker."

"Another...

Dorian stood up straight, and uncrossed her arms calmly. Finally tearing her eyes away from Mohinder's they went instead to the photograph as she plucked it out of the air. Her eyes remained on the photograph for a few moments, before they went back to Mohinder's.

Silence pressed upon Mohinder's ears. Dorian's stare made the chill cling to his spine once more. The silence stretched on, making him nervous, afraid, once more. "This is the root of you anger now?" she asked simply, turning the photograph so that it faced him. "An old photo?"

"You know Sylar." he said to her, taking half a step away...
