Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Lzzy Hale & More Honoured At Golden Gods Awards.
Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Lzzy Hale and more have all walked off with top honours at this years\' Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. Taking place in London on Monday Night (13th June), the bash also saw performances from Gojira, Halestorm and Asking Alexandria, as well as Saxon with surviving Motörhead members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, in a special tribute to Lemmy Kilmister.
Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Lzzy Hale and more have all walked off with top honours at this years\' Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. Taking place in London at the Eventim Appollo, Hammersmith on Monday Night (13th June), the bash also saw performances from Gojira, Halestorm and Asking Alexandria, as well as Saxon with surviving Motörhead members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, in a special tribute to late bandleader Lemmy Kilmister.
Hosted by Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, the bash was attend by both stars from the worlds of rock and metal, and the fans, who were given the opportunity to purchase tickets - appropriately priced at £6.66 - with proceeds going to Heavy Metal Truants; an annual charity cycle ride which benefits Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust and Childline.
Big name winners included thrash metal pioneers Anthrax, who were crowned this years\' \'Inspiration\'. Speaking exclusively to eonmusic on the red carpet at the event, the band said that they were delighted to receive the award. Said guitarist Scott Ian:
"we were inspired by so many bands, and our album title \'For All Kings\', it touches on that; all the kings that we grew up with, all the bands that we love that inspired us to do what we do, it all kind of comes together".
Also honoured was Lzzy Hale, who took home the \'Shredder\' award. Speaking to eonmusic, the Halestorm front woman noted that it was the first award to recognise her abilities as a guitarist. Said Lzzy:
"It\'s quite the honour, actually. It\'s the first thing I\'ve ever gotten for playing guitar. It\'s pretty cool!".
The first female to ever win in the \'Shredder\' category, Hale joked that perhaps now, she could finally take a break from rehearsals. Said Lzzy:
"Does this mean that I can stop practising? Is it over now?!"
Other winners included Iron Maiden, who got Best Album for \'Book Of Souls\', and former Slipknot and current Vimic drummer Joey Jordison, who was announced as 2016’s Golden God, following in the footsteps of Dave Mustaine, Lemmy and Marilyn Manson.
Asking Alexandria meanwhile picked up the gong for Best UK Band, while Ghost, Sweden’s iconic and internationally celebrated occult rockers, won Best International Band. Also in house to receive his award, was this years\' Icon, former Mötley Crüe and current Sixx:A.M. luminary Nikki Sixx.
Interwoven with the award presentations were live sets from Grammy Award-winners Halestorm, French metal innovators Gojira and Amon Amarth, in what were the only U.K. summer shows for any of the bands outside of festival appearances.
Closing the evening was A Salute To Lemmy - a monumental celebration of the life of one of music’s biggest icons. A unique happening, former long time touring partners Saxon performed Lemmy’s three favourite Saxon songs - \'Heavy Metal Thunder\', \'Motorcycle Man\' and \'Princess Of The Night\' - before being joined onstage by Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee for a performance of Motörhead’s ‘Ace Of Spades’, ‘Born To Raise Hell’ and ‘Overkill’.
Taking place annually, the Metal Hammer Golden Gods honours those from the worlds of rock and metal. This year\'s event came in conjunction with 35th anniversary celebrations of parent magazine Metal Hammer.
