“Aren't these flowers beautiful, Hefty?” Smurfette asked.
She tilted the watering can and gave her plants a drink of clear blue water. Hefty watched her, amazed that a beautiful creature like Smurfette wasn't as obsessed with her beauty like many other Smurfs.
“Sure are, Smurfette,” Hefty answered. He wiped a bead of sweat off his forehead. “Boy. It sure is cold out tonight.”
“I know. These poor flowers. They have to spend all night in this freezing wind. I'll need to give them more water tomorrow morning. And the Smurflings were so excited about our trip.”
“What trip?”
“I promised to take them up to the waterfall tomorrow. But with all this chill, my flowers will need me more than ever. I just can't take them.”
“What if I water your flowers for you?” Hefty asked.
“Oh Hefty! Would you?”
“Sure. I'd hate to disappoint those Smurflings. It's baby's first trip.”
“Oh thank you Hefty! I just know you'll do a good job!”
Smurfette kissed his cheek, making Hefty turn more blue in the face.
“Aw shucks. You're welcome Smurfette.”
Anything for you...
Smurfette woke up early, ready for her trip with the Smurflings. She exited her house to find all her flowers warm under several blankets.
“Oh. Who did this? Oh I wish I knew. My flowers look so happy. I wish I could thank whoever gave these to my flowers. I know. I'll ask Tailor who asked for them. Then I'll know.”
“Hello Smurfette,” Tailor said. “Are you here for your new dress? It's green, just as you requested.”
“Thank you Tailor. But I'm actually here to see who requested blankets for my flowers.”
“Oh. Hefty came in this morning and had me make several blankets.”
“Hmm. So it was Hefty. Thank you Tailor. I'll pick up my dress later.”
“Hefty Smurf! I know what you've been up to!”
Hefty turned from his work. Smurfette was walking toward him. And she looked rather upset.
“W-what are you talking about?” Hefty asked.
“I'm talking about my flowers. You covered them with blankets.” Smurfette's face brightened in a cheery smile. “And I have no words to say how thankful I am! You saved my flowers!”
“I-uh-Your welcome...I think.”
Smurfette looked around.
“So what are you doing out here?” Hefty asked. “I thought you were taking the Smurflings to the waterfall.”
“I was. But they all caught colds. So we had to cancel.”
“Aww. That's too bad. I know how much you love those falls.”
“Yes. It's a real shame. And baby was so excited.”
“Why don't we go to the falls? I can take you there right now.”
“Oh Hefty! You're so sweet! I'll have Greedy pack us a lunch. We can go on a picnic!”
Hefty nodded and watched as Smurfette hurried back to the village. One day Smurfette. One day, I'll tell you just how much you mean to me...
“Oh Hefty! Have you ever seen such a beautiful flower? It has to be the Smurfiest thing the world!”
Smurfette stood on tiptoes to smell the wild red rose. It was still in bloom, the only one left, and the snow covered bush made it stand out in all the frozen white lands.
“Second most beautiful,” Hefty said.
“What's more Smurfier than a wild rose blooming in winter?” Smurfette asked.
“You are.”
“Oh Hefty...Do you mean that?”
“Yeah. I've wanted to tell you for a long time. But I was too afraid to say it.”
“Say what?”
“How much I love you.”
“You have nothing to worry about, Hefty. I love you too.”
And in the quiet with only the wild rose for company, the two shared a romantic kiss. No matter how small one might be, each deserve love. And these two just found it. They enjoyed having a very Smurfy Christmas.
