even a knighthood or two..
Blackadder esq is famous. Edmund the "butler" to Prince George
He wasn't created by Sir Benjamin Charles Elton ( son of the famous Lewis Elton, and nephew of the even more famous Sir Geoffrey Elton)
and Richard Curtis of the BBC, No ! The character already existed.
Edmund has had three very famous incarnations in literature
Firstly as himself, within his own lifetime, feted by Kings of England,
as a naval hero of every War from 1770 to 1820 Yes ! A half century of service ! Do we hear "Thank you for your service Edmund Nagle ?
No ! What instead Edmund hears is the deathly silence of 'CANCEL CULTURE"
By 1990 he has endured three layers of cancel culture :
Firstly Queen Victoria's, thence because of the Irish War of Independence
exactly a century ago.
And lastly, by pseudo-radical literature, & historical boffins from Oxford,
Manchester, and London Universities..
Edmund Nagle RN KB KCB GCH &c was too Regency' Fop, Dandy, and a Rake (possibly with a woman in every port) for the Neo-Puritanism
of Albert & Victoria,
So , Edmund, a veteran of the First Falklands Crisis,,America's War of Independence, France's First Republic's War with Britain,
Napoleon's Wars with Britain,the War of 1812 ,
and also Naval Aide de Camp to HRH The Prince Regent, later KIng George IV's State Visits to Scotland, Ireland , & Hanover, i.e Edmund was Captain of each and every vessel,.What? Yes ! Just CANCELLED.

and in particular, naval war heroes. MOther England, facing off Franco,Mussolini,Stalin, and Hitler, stood alone
The United States, busy with a chicken in every pot, another Wall Street Crash, and not enough New Deals
looked the other way to the pleadings for support at a time when war was imminent, war was happening ,
and Great wars had just finished. Enter Cecil Smith, known by the populace as CS Forester,
an agent of the British Govt at work first in London, and then sent on a mission to the USA
Horatio Hornblowers's enormously , almost impossibly , long career as written by Forester
enticed these young Anglophones in the Global Community to enlist. And that they did indeed ,when the declarations of war
were issued by Tojo and Hess to the FDR and co on a day that would, like Sept 11, live in infamy.
Horatio's long career, and life mirror's that of Edmund Nagle to the letter, and is disguised by Forester
who never attributed his muse to a single one Midshipman to full Admiral of the Royal Navy.
Edmund was left out of Forester's footnotes, and the Irish are cast as villains., All starting, exactly 100 years ago. CANCELLED.
Okay, but, maybe an apparatchik of HM Secret Service , the MoI's Mr. Smith, didn't know?
Unlikely. Why? Because great men cannot be kept hidden.
If a dunce like me could find Edmund Nagle, I'm sure a clever fellow,
BoJo and Winston Churchill thought he was, then maybe a college graduate might too.Just start with Burke's Peerage, and enter the name NAGLE.
You'll have hundreds of characters ripe for the picking in your next novel, or film.
And , as they say, There's No Business Like Show Business.
Enter Edmund Blackadder. Domiciled (incorrectly "Downstairs) as a servant, and entertaining the whims of a famous profligate rake like that boy George.
HRH the Prince Regent
Hidden away under the title "Butler". Edmund Blackadder esq,
just as Horatio Hornblower managed, took the life of Edmund Nagle;
Used it, Uncredited, Unmerited, Unannotated , and Unannounced,
CANCELLED...Again !!!
BAFTA awards for Cancel Culture ! (Now,... where did I hide my MAGA cap?)
