She lied there. Unconscious and bruised, her face was so torn up no one could really recognize her, no one but him.
He stood there over her bed after everyone else had gone. He stayed and watched her with concern. If only he had answered her calls. She might have still been alive. Why did he have to ignore her so much? Why did he even bother to come? Seeing her so torn up was killing him. He couldn’t help but hate himself. He didn’t want to admit it, but he hated himself.

“I thought I told you to show up in my office an hour ago!!” Cuddy yelled as she approached him in the clinic.
“Hmm, an hour ago, I think I was ditching to get lunch with Wilson.” House said looking at a folder.
He began walking away towards Exam room 2. Cuddy followed him closely. As he opened the door she slammed it shut and leaned against the door.
“You do know that I could just pull the door open and make you fall right?” House stated with his hand still on the handle.
“My office. Now.” Cuddy said firmly pointing to her office.
“But mom,” House whined like a 7 year old, “I wanna go play!”
“House! Go now!” Cuddy demanded as she slowly began to lose her patience.
House groaned loudly and began stomping to her office like a frustrated little kid, who didn’t get the candy he wanted.
Swiftly Cuddy followed and closed her doors. House stood in front of her desk pouting and slouching. She just rolled her eyes and sat down.
“House,” she began firmly, “You are the most immature, irresponsible, annoying, arrogant, jerky, and persistent doctor in this whole hospital…” she paused.
House just rolled his eyes hearing the speech again. Cuddy took a long, deep breath and sighed.
“But I have no other choice,” she paused once more, “I have a meeting for 3 weeks and you’re going to take over for me.”
House looked at her skeptically. His gaze wandered like he was looking for something and turned back to her with the same questioning face.
“What?” Cuddy asked with a bit of irritation in her tone.
“Am I being punk’d or something?” He looked around again.
“No! I’m leaving you in charge while I’m gone House.” She said seriously.
House leaned forward and studied her. He observed her demeanor and her body language. Cuddy merely rolled her eyes and crossed her legs. She leaned forward and they had a stare down for a minute or two before they both leaned back. House smiled and broke the silence.
“When are you leaving?” He asked happily.
“Tomorrow, that’s why I’m telling you today.” She told him as she relaxed a bit in her chair.
“Why me? I mean you have Wilson and Cameron and a whole hospital full of doctors, why choose me?” He challenged her.
She smiled.
“Well, Wilson has an Oncology convention and Cameron couldn’t handle the last time she had to take over, mostly because of you,” Cuddy stated with a little bit of pleasure, “and all the other doctors in this hospital don’t want to deal with a certain annoying doctor, House.”
“No,” House was skeptic once again, “There is a hidden reason. You want to make a certain doctor responsible. Teach someone a lesson.”
“No, it was mostly because you were annoying.” She repeated.
“That’s your excuse but the real reason is because you think it’s for my own good.” He stated.
Cuddy just continued to deny the claim and after 5 minutes of a pointless argument she left and demanded that House get back to work.
--
The next day House came into work on time for once. Cuddy instantly thought he was up to something, but shrugged it away thinking that maybe, just maybe, House was actually going to take this whole “Dean of Medicine” thing seriously.
She and Wilson had planned to go to the airport together and just separate once they were at the airport.
Getting ready to leave, Cuddy asked House to come to the lobby for a minute and to her surprise he actually showed up. Once again she shrugged off her suspicions and told Wilson to wait in the cab for her.
“Okay House I’ll be gone for 3 whole weeks so I need you to keep this place exactly the same when I get back.” She instructed.
“Yeah, yeah I know.” He said rolling his eyes.
“Okay now, while I am gone I will need you to do a few things,” she paused to see if House was paying attention, “I need you to make sure that all these doctors full fill their duties and fill out all their paperwork.”
Cuddy gave him a list of doctors with all the work they need to do.
“I also need you to contact all these donors and please don’t mess it up House. I don’t need you insulting them just make appointments for them to show up here after I return.”
She then gave House a list of very generous donors who he was required to contract.
“One more thing—”
“Aren’t you gonna miss your flight?” He interrupted her.
“Oh crap you’re right,” she gave him one more list, “Okay this tells you everything you need to do and how to do it. I am begging you, please don’t mess this up!”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would never dare to” House sighed.
“Oh yeah, and don’t burn down the hospital, get it shut down, or any strippers and/or whores here.”
“I know, I know.”
“And another thing—”
“You’re going to miss your flight!” House pointed out once more.
“Right.”
Cuddy picked up her back pack and was about to hug House good-bye but stopped herself.
“Bye.” She said running out to the cab.
House watched the cab drove out of sight. Once he was sure it was gone a smile came on his face.
“Well I’ll see you all in 3 weeks.” House began to walk out.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Cameron asked, stopping him only after a few steps.
“Home?”
“No,” She crossed her arms, “Cuddy left work for you to do and she told me to make sure you do it.”
“You know, you’re right,” House stated, “But my arms are starting to kill me, mind holding this for me?”
Cameron took all the papers from him. House grabbed his cane and put on his jacket and his backpack.
“Well have fun with those.” House said putting on his glasses and quickly limping out of the hospital.
Cameron tried to stop him but was too preoccupied with not dropping the papers she held in her arms.
House made it to his bike as quickly as he could limp and hooked on his cane. He put on his helmet and started the engine. As he left he looked at Cameron getting assistance from the nurses to pick all the files up which were lying on the floor now. He waved her good-bye and rode home.
