He walked hesitantly through the hallway. He couldn't believe it was happening.
He, of all of people, he was getting divorced today.
He was the one to ask for the it and yet, he wasn't sure what he was doing.
Throwing all those years of marriage away.
No, he wouldn't be the one to blame. She was the one who had broken the vowels. She was the one who had cheated.
Again, he was confused. How had he let that happen? He always thought he was going to be the one to cheat. That he was going to be the one that was handed the divorce papers.
And, yet, he wasn't.
The moment she told him, oh, yes, the moment SHE told him she had an affair, he knew it was over.
He also knew it was very unfair for him to ask for a divorce just because she cheated on him.
He had cheated, and gotten away with it. If you don't include the part where he'd tried to kill himself, everything had gone more or less fine. If you can ever put the words fine, attempt of suicide and adultery in the same sentence.
He came to the end of hallway -his lawyer beside him. She was sitting on a bench, her lawyer talking on the phone.
She looked so fragile, so absent. And even like that, he could still find everything that made him fall in love with her present.
She was looking at her shoes, almost like blaming them for what was happening. He felt his heart tugging a bit. He shouldn't have felt like that! He scolded himself. He was doing the right thing.
'She cheated, she is the one to blame.' he repeated in his head, the words coming out rather untruthful.
He hadn't met anyone else, he hadn't compromised their marriage. He shouldn't have felt like he was about to make the biggest mistake in his life.
He still loved her though, after all she was the mother of his kids. She was there for him every time he had needed her there.
However, he had to divorce her. He wasn't sure if it was because he was really hurt with what had happened, or was he to proud to accept her apology. Whichever it was, he knew he was being hypocritical and he … somehow didn't care.
They were waiting to be called in the room so the judge could listen the both sides and do... whatever was judge supposed to do. Hugh couldn't think of the things that were about to happen in the next few hours.
She raised her head, finally realizing he had arrived. Their eyes met for a split second, Hugh being the one to look away.
“Hugh,please...” she raised her voice, probably not realizing how broken it appeared to be.
“Whatever you have to say, save it” Hugh replied, his words coming out more rough than he wanted.
A single tear rolled down her cheek. She let her head fall before she got up from the bench and approached him.
She sobbed a little
“I'm begging you, Hugh, please think about it again... You know-”
“I don't know anything. And you better prepare yourself for the judge” he interrupted her rudely.
He didn't want to let her make him feel bad about what he was doing.
“Hugh...” she sobbed again.
“Lisa, we're getting divorced, deal with it” was the last thing he said to her before they were called in the court room.
