I just want to say I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING

One particular evening, Edward was at the piano – contemplating a new composition, playing it only in his mind but its individual notes were tested, refined and approved. Carlisle was perusing a thick book, quite absorbed; Esme was correcting her sketch, Alice and Rosalie were muttering over a design of some dress while Emmett was getting restless, raring to go - even after just winning an arm-wrestling match against Jasper; he was at the moment wondering if he should ask his brothers to schedule a hiking. Jasper, on the other hand was reading the newspaper with intent eyes.

Suddenly, Edward saw the large room burst into varied colors on another plane: all bright and radiant – overlapping the opaque objects and obstacles. His fingers slipped from the keys and the note wavered tunelessly to an end. Nobody noticed, since he had been playing broken notes all this while. Startled, he viewed the surrounding from others’ eyes and there was nothing unusual. He returned to his mind and sighed. He saw nothing that shouldn’t be there. He had heard of parallel planes, overlapping with the three-dimensional ones; some gifted vampires were able to see them.

Edward was focusing upon everyone’s rush of thoughts – a subdued din; when it happened again. This time, Edward was quicker and zeroed on to Jasper’s consciousness. There!
It was coming from his standpoint! So, this was where Jasper detected emotions. Jasper was unaware of the slip and Edward’s sudden discovery, debating with himself over a piece of article.

Well, this is absurd! How can this issue rest by mere –?
The United Nations is still young…Russia could easily...
What is that?! Edward? Is that you?
Jasper almost sat up straighter in alarm, his fierce gaze upon a shock-still and staring Edward.

How on earth can I feel you read my mind?
Edward gave the tiniest of the shrugs. Then, Jasper realized the lapse in his unswerving barrier and almost immediately covered it before changing his mind, almost willingly. He leaned back again, straightening the paper again.

Are you able to see this dimension?
Edward slightly nodded, absolutely enchanted with the sight.
You are only the first person to witness this, Edward. Even Alice couldn’t though I tried everything to show her. Perceptible emotions. They are something to behold, aren’t they?

Edward was quite speechless…they were highly astonishing and magnificent. It never crossed his mind that emotions and feelings had a form too. They came in a million colors, frequencies and intensities – all distinctive to each individual; like an aura enveloped around the body, not entirely consistent or homogenous everywhere. They radiated at least two to three feet in every direction, vibrating with a will of their own. Like a faint energy mist, colorless and potent except for the fingers of flame like etheric sunbursts that rippled through them- these were colored and ever-changing.

What you see, Edward are not called emotions. It is the etheric energy of a being.
Edward almost started…he had entirely forgotten about Jasper; he seemed to be reading the newspaper with great interest but his eyes hardly moved.

Around the person is a subtle electromagnetic body of energy that is sometimes called the subtle body of energy and is normally unseen by the naked eye. The ancient Greeks called it the etheric body. This is where the real person resides. It’s also where the real feelings reside.

Rarely as it happens, Edward never was taken by surprise – until now. Etheric body…he beheld the various possibilities. It was just a false notion: an unexplored fallacy but here it was. He struggled to keep his expressions controlled lest someone noticed and Jasper withdrew this wonderful vision from his sight. What human traits had Jasper possessed as a human that rendered him this extraordinary ability?

On an energy level, it’s the blueprint of the real human, continued Jasper.
It has a precise identity, like a thumbprint, patterned in a complex web of energy. People perceive your consolidated power subliminally, and they respond accordingly.

Many of the great unexplained metaphysical mysteries are contained within it. For the mystifying world of the etheric is one of the last unconquered frontiers. It’s where everything is explained: hand-on healing, subliminal energy, charisma, power, telepathy, extrasensory perception…
Edward listened in absolute perplexity as Jasper listed several other unexplained phenomena. Telepathy…he thought. It was his forte…at least a variation of it. Edward wondered how his human etheric nature had been like. And Alice’s?

I had spoken to Carlisle…he said our strongest human sixth sense intensifies upon entering transformation. He mentioned several examples, including yours but I am unsure as to what my latent ability was. My father had said that I had a strange charisma.
Here, Edward glimpsed a distorted image of a middle-aged man in a top hat with crinkling kind eyes. It was only the second time; Jasper uttered more than a few sentences. The first time being when Jasper decided to share his past after being asked by Rosalie as to how he met Alice. He avoided speaking to Edward in his mind too; Jasper’s psyche was rigidly disciplined and controlled. His mental voice was softer than his own and echoed like the rustle of dry leaves.

He said that I always made people listen to me, no matter what. I was able to influence their reactions…have my way with them. But it still doesn’t entirely explain. Anyways, in the etheric, you see how the human condition is complicated by the personality,
but you can have a deep compassion for it. For a human is not just a mind, a body, or an emotion – it is light.
Edward nodded in agreement, causing a bemused glance from Emmett; he hurriedly straightened his sheets of music and pored over them attentively. Go on…he urged Jasper quietly, loathe for any lapse.

Emotions are the reactions of the personality, presented on a grand stage and scripted in the theater of the mind but their true nature is easily readable in the etheric. It’s what I do. Real feelings, secret feelings originate in the etheric and develop as the person controls the mind.

As Jasper analyzed Carlisle’s aura, separating the various emotions according to their intensities, Edward realized that only Jasper could sense and deduce them correctly. The colors don’t signify anything specific by any means. All Edward could see was Carlisle’s golden aura – somehow denser than the others and absolutely stable.

Carlisle's is quite difficult to be influenced – his aura is strong and well- defined…something that comes with great discipline and extreme emotional control. Confidence brings solidity to the energy. Carlisle exudes a silent power. It is a strength he quietly expresses, not wields. There’s a lot of difference.
Edward listened in complete stillness with another hundred odd questions and assumptions igniting in his mind. This sight was trance-like and surreal – Edward focused on everything, determined to remember all.

Look at Esme’s! Always beautiful and glowing resplendently…I have never seen anything like it! Edward, I can manipulate emotions but I wonder if you can feel how others’ feelings affect me. It’s like living in a climate of emotion. Because I am highly sensitive to them, I have never been able to gain immunity. They decide my mood – my frame of mind whether I like it or not.
In his mind, Jasper was reviewing his past in Mexico with Maria and the newborns…how he was forever surrounded by hate and other despicable emotions. Even his human prey left their telltale emotions – fear and horror lingering upon Jasper.

It’s hard to resist a good emotional climate…I siphon some off it sometimes but I cannot bear handling Esme’s aura for the fear that I could end up upsetting it. It brings a great deal of harmony and a good ambiance.
This explained why Jasper spent a great deal of time in Esme’s company. Edward realized that everyone felt the same way around Esme. Her everlasting affection had come from her maternal instincts that intensified upon transformation after she jumped off a cliff, in grief following the loss of her child. Jasper was wondering the same thing, recalling the memory when Esme told him how her human life ended…how he was inexpressibly moved by it.

Emmett is restless and growing bored by every passing second. No need to read his emotions – they are fairly clear. But I shall divulge a little.
And then to Edward’s immense surprise and awe, Jasper summoned a huge cloud of an uncertain emotion. It swayed in the empty space like a formless mist, ready to do Jasper’s bidding. Edward stared at it in some apprehension, feeling strangely vulnerable. A part of the mist descended neatly upon Emmett and Edward felt his thoughts take a new course, more serene and considerate. A little excited too, though both Edward and Emmett had no idea why.

A little unexplained enthusiasm and calmness for the lethargic fellow, said Jasper sympathetically. Brilliant! Edward wanted to exclaim…he played a buoyant tune, smiling widely. He watched then, as Jasper replayed several other exploits of his extreme meddling. How he was able to calm a mass of deranged, mindless newborns or excite an indolent crowd at a bar. It was like plucking the strings of a guitar – the music weaving in and out, forming the melody of the emotive air. Utterly intriguing and impossible!

I don’t know why but Rosalie’s emotional atmosphere has always been unstable, quite fragile and easily affected by others. I think, she hardly notices the difference herself.
Edward wanted him to experiment with her aura so he could see it first-hand but he knew Jasper wouldn’t. From these memories, he understood that Jasper avoided altering his family’s emotions unless absolute necessary.

And Alice…
Here his thoughts took a new course, and Edward realized that Jasper was forever studying her aura – making a study of it. He guessed that maybe this was why Jasper always knew what she was thinking. Jasper remained quiet, lost in his own thoughts and flashes of images that were too fast and swift. He caught an ephemeral vision of a bouquet of wild roses in Alice’s hands…another was of Alice standing atop a cliff, watching the full moon.
My first sight of her aura…
Edward saw Alice in the diner they met, looking relieved and tiny. Her aura was incredible and he had no words to describe it. Jasper of course had but he withdrew his consciousness from the memory and with this, even the secret world of visible ethereal energies also vanished, leaving the room somehow duller and uninteresting than before.

Edward frowned, faintly dissatisfied…he had wanted to see more but Jasper had been generous enough. No need to push his luck. Emmett suddenly got up in a daze, deciding to study some paintings. Edward threw a hand over his mouth to hide a grin…really! That would be one sight no one would want to miss. He caught Jasper’s amused glance and shrugged.

Later that evening, after Edward discussed fervently with Jasper about the various hypotheses, thanking him a couple of times – they posed their views to Carlisle. Any new information was like a kingly gift for him. It was only then, that Jasper revealed something else.
“I don’t quite understand this but ever since I changed my source of diet, I am able to see the etheric world more clearly and work with my ability easily.”

“Amazing,” breathed Carlisle before continuing.
“It’s usually the other way round. A rarefied diet is likely to increase sensitivity. The brain waves and metabolism slows down and this metaphysical energy quickens and the mind goes quiet. This must have happened with you, Jasper…enabling the better reading and other enhancements.”

When everyone retired for the night, Edward filled his journal with the day’s enlightenment, thinking all the while that Jasper’s gift was definitely a delicate and sophisticated power…quite subtle to belong to a person like him. Edward had caught Carlisle thinking in amazement after hearing Jasper’s past,
Its barely credible that he found the will to turn away from his creator…after a century of blood-thirsty carnage. Must have everything to do with his unique gift…that in the end became his salvation.

Edward wrote,
With perception comes responsibility. Imagine that if you are infinite you are everywhere, and you can be anywhere, and you are inside all things, and you affect them.
