I know they've been pretty short if that bugs you leave a comment letting me know and I'll combine a few parts to make them longer. Also if you don't think I'm being true to the characters let me know and I'll try harder. Pretty much anything that isn't right I'd love to know so I can make it better. Thanks.

part 8

"Absolutely not!" the mind reader said harshly "Why not?" the huge one countered. His mate asked what was going on. He whispered his thought in her ear. She looked mad "We can't do that!" He turned sulky "She's durable we won't hurt her." The mind reader growled under his breath "She's not that durable. Not for everyday life." The huge one's mate had a different objection "We stand out enough as it is." I could believe that. They went to school? Six pale children all "dating" each other. Everyone would talk.

The others seemed to understand the huge one's idea. They were wary "I don't think she wants to even if it were safe Emmett." The leader pointed out quietly. I was shocked to realize that a small part of me did want to. It had been so long since I had been a part of such a close knit group. I longed to belong. But I could belong somewhere safer.

I was getting the feeling that in theory they wanted to let me go but they kept getting distracted. For crying out loud they were vampires! They thought I was interesting?

Eventually I was sitting across from the leader discussing my release and the others went between our conversation and a separate one concerning my abilities. I learned that the tiny she-vampire could see the future. Before long I had to admit that all I owned was in my messenger bag (mostly cash, some clothes, some food, my knife, a few fake documents and a few trinkets.) I learned that vampires never ate. Not shocking: the cooking was really bad. I didn't have the fake documents I needed to rent an apartment so I would have to find someplace abandoned or a landlord who would bend the rules. I was thinking that when they let me free I would go to Florida. Far away from here.

The leader was still grappling with the idea of a homeless minor. "Have you ever considered the foster care system? Or I could try to arrange for a direct adoption?" I sighed "People would notice that I age slowly." I pointed out. "How old are you?" He asked. It was time. No getting around it. "I look about fourteen so I generally tell people I'm fourteen I've been around longer than fourteen years." I said sounding like I was confessing to murder. The red-eyed one spoke up "Do you mean three or four years longer or ten or twenty years longer or more?" she asked "More" I answered. The mind reader asked next "Fifty? More?" I sighed "More. I don't know how much more, I honestly don't. I don't pay attention, I'd rather not know." Slowly they lowered down that I was definitely older than all of them except the leader, his mate and the mind reader.

I noticed that a few of them were drifting in and out of the kitchen. We had been talking a long time. "So I suppose I do not have to worry about letting a child wander alone. If you would like I can help you find a place to stay or we can acquire any documents you may need" He offered. "I'm fine" I insisted. The one who could taste emotions took several steps toward me and placed a business card on the table. We tried not to taste each other but it didn't work. He retreated. The card had a few names, phone numbers and addresses. J. Jenks, Jason Jenks and Jason Scott. "Mention Bella Cullen if you want him to like you and Jasper Cullen if you need immediate obedience." He said with a slight smile. I shuddered.

I was finally out the door. I thanked them for their hospitality and politely refused a ride and more food. Again. The tiny one was frustrated. The best I could tell she couldn't see my future because the "mostly human" friends were getting close. The red-eyed one touched my shoulder and said to tell the Jenks man to send the bill to the Cullens. Right.

The first people I met were three tall shirtless boys and a girl. One of them made a sound like a snarl and they surroundied me. I froze.
The girl talked to one of the boys but kept a hard glare on me. "Don't worry about the Cullens. It will be easier to get forgiveness than permission. We can escort her to the rez just in case." I was trembling hard. I heard a vampire voice "No Jacob! she's not what you think!" At the same time my trembling turned to writhing and I felt like a million needles were being pushed through my skin from the inside out and then back in. It felt like my ribcage was tearing apart and the needles pushed out once more as I fell to the ground.

Several of the vampires crowded around me and I saw to my horror that I was some kind of animal.
