End of Chapter 27
"Thank you." She said as she took my hand and stood up, moving fast enough that she pressed herself against me and hugged me tightly.
"What was that for?" I said as I hugged her back and kissed the top of her head.
"For trying...and for loving me." She said as she looked up at me.
"Thank you."
"For what?" She asked quietly.
"For waiting for me, for having faith in me and for loving me regardless." I said as I leaned down and kissed her passionately.
"How far are we from Washington?" Alice asked later that night as we stopped to fill the car again.
"I will ask." I said as I laughed. I was sure that she already knew when we would make it to Forks, Washington...but she was playing along, I think for my sake.
I walked into the gas station, and was paying for gas when I sensed others of our kind near the station. Instantly I was in defense mode, I threw a handful of money at the cashier as I moved faster then I should have to get back to the car and Alice.
Chapter 28
I ran to the car, looking around for whoever I felt was near. I had my door open and was climbing in when Alice’s eyes went wide, her mouth falling open into a O as she had another of her visions. I sat there in the drivers seat holding her hands, waiting as patiently as I could as I waited for her to come back to me and tell me what she saw. I looked out the windows continuously as I searched for whoever I felt near. A few minutes later she blinked as she reached over, grabbing my hand in hers as she looked positively happy.
“Alice?” I asked as I reached over and put my hand against her face.
“Jasper.” She said as she moved over and cuddled into my shoulder.
“What did you see?”
“Don’t worry, I know you are nervous. They won’t hurt us.” She laughed, she was so sure of herself that her emotions made me believe she meant what she said.
“Who is it?” I asked, wanting to know more. I did trust her visions, they had been right to this point…and I had no reason not to believe her.
She laughed, the sound like music to my ears. She was so happy, and excited that it flooded the car and made me feel….high. She turned her head and kissed my shoulder as she hugged me tightly, she was smiling so much that it light up her entire face.
“This will make everything a little bit…..easier.” She said as she grinned.
“You know I don’t have the foggiest idea of what that means.” I said as I looked down at her, trying to make my face look hard and angry. ..which apparently didn’t work because she laughed at me.
“Relax,” She said as she kissed my chin. “It’s Edward and Emmett, they were just passing by on their way to go hunting.”
“Who?”
She sighed as she rested her head against my chest. “They are part of the Cullen’s, don’t worry Jasper. They will accept us…..did you ask how far away we are?”
“No, I got distracted.”
“It’s ok, I don’t think we’re that far. Oh I’m so excited….Jazz, we’re going to have a family.” She said, like this was the greatest thing ever.
“We are a family.” I said as I looked down at her.
“Well, yes…that is true. You are my family.” She said as she raised up and kissed me softly. “You are….I can’t put it into words. You are my life Jasper, I don’t want to imagine a world without you.”
“I know, Alice you know how I feel. I don’t want to be in a world without you, I would do anything for you. You have changed my life so much since we met, and I don’t want to go back to a world without you. I love you, and will do anything for you.” I said as I leaned down and kissed her a little bit too passionately since we were still sitting in front of the gas station. She pulled away as she laughed, looking around at the gas attendant who was trying not to watch, but was.
“You’re sure that…..what did you say their names were?” I asked
“Emmett and Edward?” She asked.
“Yes, are you sure that Emmett and Edward won’t give us any problems?” I asked as I looked around again for them.
“They are gone now, they just wanted to see who was close. They’re off hunting now, this is the perfect time. We have to get going now, we can’t be too far off.”
“Ok.” I said as I kissed her again and pulled back onto the highway.
About two hours later Alice told me to pull off the highway and onto what looked like a small road, that turned out to be a drive way. We drove down the long drive passing huge trees that I guessed had probably been here longer then the house. I was going to ask her what was going on when I saw a house start to grow out of the landscape. It was three stories high, had lots of windows and looked like it was still undergoing construction. I looked over at Alice as I stopped the car and put it in park, nervous for the first time in many years.
“Come on.” Alice said as she climbed out of the car.
I had a second to think about letting her go alone, not trusting these people . But, at the same time I wasn’t about to let her go alone to meet others of our kind…even with the visions that she had had of them. I sighed as I opened my door and moved quickly up to stand by her side.
As Alice took her first step the front door opened, three ‘people’ walking through the door…all of them dropping a little in a defensive stance. I swore quietly as I moved up to block Alice from they’re attack. I felt myself dropping into a defensive stance, willing to fight anyone to keep Alice safe. I was about to take a step forward when I felt a hand on my shoulder and heard Alice laugh quietly as she moved up along my side, ignoring me as I tried to stop her…a sigh escaping my lips as she laughed and stepped out into the middle.
