End of Chapter 28
***Edward's POV***
The leader was crouched on the roof of the building, his new born companion's on buildings on the other side of the alley waiting for his signal before they attacked.
"The roofs." I whispered so softly that only Jasper would hear it. He nodded as he turned his head to the other side of the alley, sensing the emotions of the newly turned vampires.
I returned to listening to the leader who was paying close attention to Bella, he was thinking of the way that her hair would fall around his hands while he fed...the way she smelt made his mouth water, he was having a hard time keeping himself where he was.
I didn't realize I was moving until my feet hit the side of the building, my body flying until I got almost to the edge. I was about to throw myself at him when everything got blurry, it was like a great dense fog rolled in making it so I couldn't see anything solid, just the outline. I growled as I laughed myself, the fog getting denser by the second until I wasn't sure that I was heading in the direction of the leader. As I was flying I sensed someone else's thoughts but couldn't focus on them...I probably would have ignored them except that I heard my name yelled. I had one fraction of a second to realize that I had heard Alice's voice screaming my name before hands grabbed me and threw me against a brick wall.
Chapter 29
***Emmett's POV***
Rosalie pushed against my back, doing her best to push me out of the way to help in the fight we could hear but not see. I stood my ground, my body tensed for the fight I knew would come.
"Emmett, move!" Rosalie said as she shoved at my back, then pivoted so that she went the opposite direction I thought she would.
"Alice!?" Rosalie yelled into the dark that hung like a curtain in front of us.
We waited for any response, but the only thing we could hear were the sounds of people fighting and an occasional growl. I went to take a step into the darkness when Rosalie grabbed my arm and pulled me back to where I was next to her.
"Wait." She said as she focused on the darkened alley.
"Rose I have to go help them." I said as I started off, Rosalie grabbing at my arm again.
"Emmett, there are three humans down that alley. They are cornered, blind to what's going on, freaked out and are having to listen to a fight that they should not know of...let alone have to witness."
"Rose," I said as I reached one hand up and stroked her face. "Edward, Jasper and Alice are all in there, they could be hurt or worse. I can't stand here and wait, I'm sorry." She looked at me for a minute before she looked back down the alley, wondering what she should do before she kissed me softly and grabbed my hand.
We walked slowly into the darkness, both of us hyperware of our surroundings. I tried to make out any of our surroundings, but everywhere I looked was black. I went to take a step forward when someone or something smashed into my side, knocking me into the brick side of the building. I was quickly back on my feet, my body tensed in anticipation of who was this close to me and Rosalie.
"Damn it!" Someone said close so close to me that I reached out and grabbed them by the throat, pulling them close enough that I could make out the features of their face.
"Jazz?" I asked as I squinted, doing my best to see.
"Emmett?"
"Jazz where is everyone? What's with the dark?" I whispered as I released him.
"It just started," He said as he backed up. "Edward and I were fighting, there were three of them. Edward was fighting the leader, and I was beating the other two when we both heard something and everything went black."
"Did you?" I asked, not needing to finish the sentence.
"Yes I 'took care' of one of them, but the other must have gotten a lucky shot and knocked me off the building. Em..is Alice here?"
"Yes." I said as I heard footsteps running behind me, Jasper and I both turning.
We were both ready to attack when we heard Alice yell from a few feet to our left, both of us taking off at the same time, Jasper beating me to her by a fraction of a second.
Alice was fighting with someone when we got there, though we couldn't see either of them we knew they were there and it sounded like Alice was having a hard time. I heard Jasper growl loudly before I heard the sound of fists colliding and someone grunt. I couldn't tell who it was but I couldn't just stand here and do nothing while they fought.
I heard a sound just off to my right and knew that this was my chance, I launched myself in the direction of whoever was out there..hoping it wasn't a member of my family.
My fist landed hard against someone's face, a grunt and a curse escaping their mouth. I realized that I didn't know the voice, which made everything easier. I reached out and grabbed the person, smiling as they tried to fight me off or get away..my grip getting tighter around their neck. They growled as they kicked out, a foot making contact with my chest knocking the wind out of my lungs. I imagine that if I needed to breath that would be a bad thing, but I just held on to the person and did my best to avoid their flailing limbs. I didn't want to have to destroy anyone or anything but I could hear Jasper and Alice fighting, both of them growling loudly and I knew they needed my help.
The person I was fighting growled as they broke out of my hold, throwing themselves at me with fists and feet flying. I managed to dodge a few of the blows but somehow they kicked me in the head, knocking me back into the wall behind me. That was the last straw..I was finally mad enough to do what had to be done so that I could go help my family. I reached out, somehow managing to grab them in the pitch black, my hand wrapping around their upper arm. I knew what I had to do..so I moved my hands to either side of their neck, twisting it as hard as I could until there was no resistance..just the sound of breaking bones and tearing flesh. I threw the head to the ground, the sound echoing off the buildings on either side. I was about to try and figure out where everyone was when the black veil was lifted
revealing the horror of this fight to all of us, including the humans.
