End of Chapter 20
She released her grip slowly, her fingers stiff from gripping the clutch for so long. She concentrated and was about to let go when she stooped where she was and gasped. She completely let go of the clutch, the bike launching itself forward and collapsed to the ground, landing directly on top of Bella.
"Bella?" I yelled as I ran over and threw the bike off her as if it weighed nothing. "Are you hurt?"
She stared off into space, her eyes focused just off to my right. I looked over my shoulder and wondered what she was staring at before she blinked a few times, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
"Bella?" I asked as I shook her shoulder, my heart pounding against my chest..my fear making it hard to breath. I was wrong to fix the bikes, I was wrong to bring her here....I was wrong.
Chapter 21
"I'm fine." She said as she rolled her head to one side, staring out into space.
I watched her as she rolled her head and blinked a few times before her eyes cleared and she smiled up at me. I offered my hand to help her up, which she took with one of her heartbreaking smiles.
"Did you hit your head?"
"I don't think so." She said as she shook her head back and forth again. "I didn't hurt the bike did I?"
"No." I said as I laughed at her, she wasn't worried about herself being hurt, but was worried that she hurt the bike. "You just stalled the engine Bella, you let go too fast."
"Let's try again." She said eagerly.
"Are you sure?"
"Positive." She said as she smiled one of her mischievous smiles.
I went to help steady her as she climbed back onto the bike, but she shook her head and said she wanted to do it herself. I stayed close to the front handlebars, ready to help if she began to loose control of the bike. She tried kick starting the bike three times before the engine roared to life, her smile so huge her cheeks had to hurt.
"Easy on the clutch." I said as she gripped the handle so hard her hands were white.
She smiled and mumbled something softly, so soft that I couldn't understand what she said, but with the smile she had I figured whatever she said couldn't have been bad. She was still mumbling as she went to release the clutch, my hand stopping her seconds before she realed it all at once.
"Ease off slowly." I reminded her.
"I will." She said as she slowly released the clutch, the bike roaring underneath her.
She took off slowly, the bike balancing underneath her. She began going slow but quickly twisted the accelerator, before I knew it she was half way down the road. I was watching her as she accelerated more, her head whipping to either side as if she were looking or watching something. She finally looked forward again just as the road started to curve, I could hear her yell something but as I tried to figure out what she said the bike began to shake underneath her. I watched in horror as she lost control of the bike, flipping it onto its side as it threw her into a rock head first. I jumped onto the Harley, kicking it to life with my first attempt. I opened the throttle all the way up, flying down the road to Bella's side in under a minute.
"Bella!" I yelled as I threw the bike on the ground, not caring if I scratched it or hurt it at all.
I ran over to find that she was being crushed by the bike, I reached down and pulled the bike up with one hand, throwing it to the side as if it weighed nothing..must be adrenalin.
"Wow." Bella said as she took a deep breath.
"Bella!" I said as I crouched down over her. "Bella, are you alive?"
"I'm GREAT!" She said as she smiled. "Let's do it again!'
I watched anxiously as she moved her fingers and toes, each of them moving slowly but moving which was good. I thought maybe she had lost it when she looked up at me, and I had to do my best not to gasp. She had a huge gash on her forehead where her head had smashed into a rock, the blood seeping down her forehead.
"Um, Bella?" I said as I stared at her head. "You've got a huge cut on your forehead..and it's gushing blood."
She reached her hand up, smearing it through the blood around the cut. I think she was surprised to find the blood that poured out of her cut now. I could see the bruise starting to form around the cut, and I realized that the cut was worse then I thought it was.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Jacob." She said as she pushed against the cut.
"Why are you apologizing for bleeding?" I asked as I reached down, wrapping my arms around her and lifting her like a small child. She looked up at me, slightly dazed as I put my hand out for her keys. "Let's go. I'll drive."
"What about the bikes?" She asked as she reached a hand down and got the keys out of her pocket.
"Wait here." I said as I fought the urge to laugh about the fact she was worried about the bikes more then she was about her bleeding head. "Take this."
I stripped off my shirt without a thought, throwing it at her before I turned and ran back to my bike kicking it so hard that it started it on the first try. I opened the throttle up, forcing the bike to go as fast as it could..making it to Bella's truck in mere seconds. I fought the urge to look back until I went to climb into the truck, releasing a breath I hadn't known I was holding when I realized she was still sitting up, waiting for me to hurry back to her.
