End of Chapter 22
She was out of the truck in a second, running up the front steps and into the house without even a glance back. I followed her into the house, stopping in the living room as she turned and ran up the stairs and into the bathroom. I heard her walk into her bedroom before turning and walking back into the bathroom.
"Hurry up." I yelled as I heard her running the water, my worry that the wound would heal before they could stitch it.
"Okay, okay." She yelled back before she started walking back down the stairs, wearing a new flannel button up shirt.
"How do I look?" She asked as she stepped closer to me, the dried blood scrubbed off her head. She still had a gash on her forehead, but it didn't look as bad as it had a half hour ago.
"Better."
"But, do I look like I tripped in your garage and hit my head on a hammer?" She asked, proud of the story she had come up with.
"Sure, I guess so." I said as I smiled.
"Okay, let's go then." I laughed quietly as she walked out the door and climbed into the truck, not looking half as pale or sick as she had when we got in the house...which would make this lie a lot easier to tell when we got to the hospital.
Chapter 23
We were halfway there when I caught her staring at me, and when I realized it she blushed which made me smile.
"What?"
"We should have grabbed you a jacket." She said as she averted her eyes from my naked chest.
"That would have given us away," I teased. "Besides, it's not cold."
"Are you kidding?" She asked as she reached forward and turned on the heat, blasting it as high as she could.
She watched me for a few minutes, as if I was faking...like I was freezing but in all honesty I was really warm..almost too hot. I stretched one arm around the back of her seat, the bottom of my arm resting against the top of her shoulders. She really was freezing...which felt really good against my hot skin. She looked at me a bit surprised, at first I thought it was because I was touching her, but when she snuggled into my arm I realized that she was really that cold. She craned her head to the right and watched me for a few seconds before she blushed again.
"What?" I asked feeling overly self-conscious.
"Nothing." She said as she blushed. "I just hadn't realized before. Did you know, you're sort of beautiful?"
"You hit your head pretty hard, didn't you?" I said as I rolled my eyes.
"I'm serious." She said as she did her best grumpy face.
"Well...then...thanks. Sort of." I laughed.
"You're sort of welcome." She laughed as I turned into the hospital parking lot.
I went to help her out of the truck, but the look on her face was enough to let me know that she did not want help. She was tough enough to do this on her own, but I walked close to her, knowing how much blood she had lost.
The good part of living in a small town, is that the hospitals are not busy..ever. I think that Bella's "trip over the hammer" was the most exciting thing that had happened in a long time. We were swarmed by nurses and rushed into the Emergency Room, Bella doing her best to convince people that it was worse then it looked.
An elderly doctor named Dr. Snow came into the room and when he did I saw something cross her face..sadness? It took me a minute to realize that his father had been the doctor in town until they all left. I wasn't sure what to say so I just sat next the bed and held her offered hand.
I watched as the doctor examined her head, deciding that the cut was bad enough to need stitches. He asked her if he should call her father, but Bella quickly told him that he didn't need to call him..that she would tell him about it when she got home and that Charlie wouldn't be surprised because she falls all the time.
The doctor didn't seem surprised and agreed that he wouldn't call her father as long as she promised to tell her father. He numbed her head with something then placed 7 stitches in the wound so that it was held together. He put some gauze on top and secured it with tape before he released her, making her promise to return if the pain came back or if she started getting headaches.
Bella asked me if I would drop her off, something about how she had to make dinner for Charlie..how that would help him buy the lie of tripping. Reluctantly I agreed with her and dropped her off at her house, promising to go home and get the bikes ready for tomorrow....tomorrow? What trouble would find us tomorrow?

Hi all!!!
Just a note to say that I did not fall off the face of the planet!! I am still here, went through a lot in the last few months..I won't bore you all with my life but I moved then moved again and haven't had time to think let alone write.
SO....
This is me apologizing for not writing and being gone so much in the last few months.
AND a promise that I will do my best to start writing again soon :)
Hope some of you are still here, still with me :)
Thank you all a million times for everything!!!
