Maka woke up dizzily from her long sleep. She put her white, soft as snow muzzle in the air and stretched. She sniffed the air, trying to find a prey to catch in the misty morning. She looked behind and across, to see if any other bear was there. She could sniff a seal. It was the only meal she could catch after not eating for 3 days. She walked slowly on her four legs to where the big glaciers were. She stood on the snowy mountain, and sure enough, there were seals all around. “Finally, at last there is something to eat.” She said softly. She walked slowly down the hill of the mountain, trying to keep her balance. She saw a close pine tree, and hid behind it. The scent of pine was through her nose, and she enjoyed the smell. She thought it smelled relaxing. She looked through the leaves of the tree and saw a seal about 10 feet away, the closest one. She stepped closer, trying not to make any noise. Then, the seal turned around and Maka pounced on it. All of the seals fled. She looked at the bottom of her paws and saw that the seal was under her attack. She thanked the most powerful spirit, Goshe. “Thank you, Goshe, for providing me this food.” She said, closing her eyes and looking up to the sky. She opened her eyes and looked down at the seal. She clawed through it, enjoying the prey she has caught.
Maka was walking through the snow at night, remembering when she was a cub…
“Mom, can you tell me the story, one more time?” Maka asked. “Yeah, the one of Goshee.” Her brother chimed. Their mother laughed. “It’s pronounced Go-Shay, not Go-Shee. OK, my little cubs, once there was a bear named Goshe. He was like the father of every bear. He was kind and generous. Bears would always ask him for help. He would always be there for everybody. Goshe would give food to everybody, and heal them. One day, a mother bear came crying to him and asked him if he could heal her cub. He closed his eyes and concentrated. Then, at that moment, a powerful streak of blue light hit the cub. The mother gasped as she saw her son’s eyes open. She cried tears of joy and thanked him. Goshe has discovered he had powers. His brother bear has seen this, and envied him. One day, his brother decided to kill Goshe. He went out on a lake that was poisoned, and found fish. He gave them to his brother, and he was starting to feel weak. The next day, he didn’t make a move, and was dead…” Their mother finished.
Maka looked up to the sky and saw the biggest star blinking at her. She looked around to find a shelter, and found a hollow rock. She went inside of it and slept through the night…
