I ate my first delicious rattlesnake. "Yummmmm..." I said dreamily. "Gylfie, don't eat the rattle, that's what you plat with young'un." My mum said, between soft churrs. "Oops, sorry mum." I said and yarped out the rattle and shook it like a maraca. "Gylfie, time to sleep, sweetheart." Da preened my soon-to-be primaries. I yawned and closed my eyes as First Light came in magnificent colors. I was warm in the sun light and mum's downy-feathers. I slept soundly. The next moon I checked my feathers and sighed. No primaries. Mum and Da was out hunting and my brother, Krono, was still sleeping. I peered out the hole, lifted my wings and jumped. I flapped my wings furiously. No such luck. I plummeted down to the sandy ground with a small thud. I peered up to look at the tall cactus and thought of ways to get up. "Maybe climbing." I thought and tried. The prickly thorn hurt. "Ouch," I said and jumped down. I sat and waited. "Mum and Da might be able to see me." I thought hopefully. I saw a shadow that was too big for an Elf Owl. It swooped down and grabbed me. "Thank you, kind owl, now can you put me back into my hollow, please?" "Shut up you midget." The owl rasped. "What did he call me?" I thought and decided to be quit.
