01. When it comes to the work, I’m excited to see what people think. When it comes to the private life, that’s when I don’t pay attention.

02. To play someone I loved in my favourite fairytale as a kid is a total honour.

03. There’s this common perception that having a famous last name is all you need. A surname may get you a meeting, but if there’s no talent you won’t get the part.

04. Never once does ‘Snow White’ herself look in the mirror so she isn’t aware of her beauty or what apparently that does to people. It’s really just the queen and the prince that talk about it.

05. My parents read me fairy tales every night and I used to believe I was a fairytale princess, like every young girl. I had all the Disney dressing-up costumes and would play every character.

06. My older siblings and I all work in ‘the industry’. So obviously we have hectic schedules, but we make it work.

07. My mother used to take me to flea markets in my stroller, and I would just rummage through the piles. You’ve got to dig through the overstuffed racks that everyone else just walks by. It’s the only...

The Hollywood Reporter: I watched The English Teacher last night and it’s a bit of a reunion for you and [Mirror Mirror co-star] Nathan Lane.

Lilly Collins: I know! And then what’s funny is that Greg Kinnear and I just did Stuck in Love together, which comes out in June. So it’s like I took one from one movie and moved on, and then took another from another movie and moved on.

THR: So I take it you enjoyed working with both of them?

LC: It was fun. Nathan is just such a hoot. He’s so funny. Even when the cameras aren’t rolling, he’s on. He’s so giving and he’s just a funny guy, so that was amazing to work with him again. I met Greg on this project, but then it was amazing because he plays Michael [Angarano]’s dad [in Teacher], and then he plays my dad in Stuck in Love. It was really nice ‘cause we already had a relationship when we started filming and when someone’s playing your family, you have to feel like you know each other. So that was a really lucky thing that we had beforehand.

Miss Lily Collins sat down with Collider and talked about the passionate fans of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, working on The English Teacher (out May 17, U.S), looking forward to filming Love, Rosie and much more.

The indie dramedy The English Teacher tells the story of Linda Sinclair (Julianne Moore), a 40-year-old, unmarried high school English teacher in small town Pennsylvania. With no children and no relationships to speak of, her life is uncomplicated, which is just how she likes it. Her greatest passion and her biggest fulfillment comes from helping her impressionable young students discover their own creative voices, until a former star student (Michael Angarano) returns and threatens to undo it all.

Collider: How did you come to be a part of this film? Was this a role you auditioned for, or did they come to you about doing this?

LILY COLLINS: I read the script and I was drawn to the tone of the story. I thought it could go so many different ways, depending on how the director wanted to take it and whether they wanted to hype up the comedy aspect of make it more dramatic. So, I had a meeting with Craig...

Fans of The Mortal Instruments book series can rest easy: Lily Collins, who’ll bring Clary Fray to life on screen, is just as obsessed with Cassandra Clare’s books as you are. (“Join the club!” she says with a laugh.) Collins, who was cast as Fray over two years ago, has been a fan of Clare’s work for quite some time. Now the story, which centers around a young girl who discovers a brand-new (to her) supernatural world, is finally coming to the big screen this summer, with a cast that includes Jared Harris and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

“The special effects and the CGI are going to be incredible, but it’s not a film based on that,” Collins says. “It just adds to the other elements of the film. We’ve kept the humor [from the book], and we’ve really made it about human emotion and character. I’m just excited to see the action and giggle and swoon over the romance. I hope that everyone loves it as much as I loved making it. I would love to play Clary over and over again.”
