"Lord Sesshomaru-sama..." Jaken mumbled, lifting his feeble, green hand to his master's shoulder. Sesshomaru stared at Rin with his cold eyes of a shark. The young black-haried girl, freezing in the gusts of the early winter wind lay lifeless in his arms.
"Rin," The Lord began, "Why were you foolish enough to stand in the crossfire of the battle?"
Her dead body did not answer. A river of deep red blood gushed from the side of her mouth.
"You brought this upon yourself."
Rin's permanently shocked face grew pale.
"I have no sympathy for you." Sesshomaru huffed, lifting his nose in the air a bit. "Human girls shouldn't play with demons, you know." Jaken took a few steps back into the snow that began to fall from the dim, gray sky. As the flakes danced among the clouds, he dug his wooden staff deep into a crystal white mound. Sesshomaru turned his head boldly to his assistant, who gestured to the spot.
"You may lay Rin here if you'd like, my Lord."
As Jaken said this, the violent breeze howled lonesomely.
"A proper burial isn't needed for such a lowly creature." the demon said. "Unlike InuYasha, I don't pity humans and their ghastly behavior. The girl took a sword to the head, so be it her fate." with his head still held high, a single tear dripped from Sesshomaru's face and upon the girl's cheek. "Still... it doesn't feel right lagging a dead body along, now does it, Jaken?"
"No, my Lord."
"Hm." He lay her on the icy ground next to the staff, where her skin now matched that of the snow. "Come, Jaken. We return home." and he turned away to venture on.
"What about the Shikon Jewel, Lord Sesshomaru?" he asked, trudging alongside.
Hesitantly, he replied, "Without Rin... their is no reason to continue said mission. She is what gave me my strength to smile. To walk, to breathe. And now she is gone. I may as well die myself come morning."
