Recently I found many of Lon's movies posted on Youtube in full. Seeing this made me quite giddy and I figured since I'll be watching these I might as well review them for this club. Now I'll admit I'm not the best film reviewer and I can be terribly biased especially when it comes to Chaney. Also I will specifically reviewing the Youtube versions unless I state otherwise so some problems I find with them may not exist on a DVD version.

First I'm going to go over some of the technical aspects of the video. A nice thing about this video is it's full length so no obnoxious clicking link after link to the different parts. This video does not have great image quality and I found it to be very hard to see at times which does make the actors' performances slightly less effective at times. Also the score is shoddy and really doesn't match the tone of the movie.

Now the story itself. The story focuses on Phroso a man who is crippled by his wife's lover. After he later finds his wife dead Phroso vows revenge on the man that brought about her death and all his descendents.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*

I loved the story. The idea of revenge warping a person is nothing new but I always love seeing it. Another thing this film showcases is the relationship between a father and daughter which is another thing I love seeing in movies (don't tell Freud.)

Now this film have a very bittersweet ending and is a very sad movie. I can see Enjolras get gunned down at the barricade and not shed a tear but show me this movie and I'll be bawling like a baby.

I blame Lon for this. His performance is really what makes this movie so depressing. If a less skilled actor played Phroso you'd probably end the movie thinking "that bastard deserved it" but with Lon you end the movie going "oh God let me hug the hurt away!" Lon also plays a very convincing cripple as we all know but we actually get to see his face not covered in makeup! That was another plus for me.

Damn you, you magnificent bastard

The other actors also do a good job. I'll admit some of the other characters don't have a lot of depth but they work well. Mary Nolan did a good job as poor, abused Maize and Warner Baxter made a good heroic type.

*SPOILERS OVER*

Overall I really liked this movie and I hope that I can get my hands on a better quality version soon. I recommend you go and watch it but have the tissues ready.

I just wanted to make a clear statement on how Lon died as I noticed when going though the questions that there was about five of them (T/F) on how he "possibly" died, well I just finished reading Lon's biography and his official cause of death of a hemorrhage in his throat, but luckily (for him at least) he slipped into a coma the day before so he didn't feel it. I honesty hate getting to the end of his rather short career (only 17 maybe 18 years) I get sad when the year 1930 comes up in his filmography because i know its the end. But it was really touching to read his original fans words...

a clip I uploaded from Moguls and Movie stars, a 7 part documentary on early hollywood. Unfortunately this is the only part that mentions Lon, a shame I think. Though its still a good documentary.

I finally saw Where East is East, I won't give any spoilers (though if you've read the wikipedia article than you'll know the jest of the plot)

First off BEST PARTS!!!

-Lon (Tiger) LIVES!!!!! *dances* -this does not happen a lot.
- He has a super adorable relationship with his daughter Toyo, the best I'd say out of any of his Father/daughter films.
- The sets are beautiful, and they actually use Asian people. (well mostly)
-The story has a somewhat similar "relationship" between the main characters as those in The Man Who Laughs.

I liked the movie, the characters are not bland or flat and for...
