Marauders Article: The difference? Loyalty.

When it comes to the Marauders, no one really likes Peter. Order members and Death Eaters alike. Why? Peter was a Death eater... Wasn't he? Not a true one, in my eyes.

Here's the Marauders. The first three, are in order of how much I like them, and below them, I will list why I like them. Peter is #4, and I will list some reasons not to like him, underneath.

1) Sirius Black
-He fights for what he believes in
-He was strong enough to pull away from his family, of blood-purity lovin' Blacks
-After TWELVES YEARS in Azkaban, he still came out determined to defeat Voldemort!
-He was not afraid to fight, if he could help out somewhere in a fight against DEs, he was there!
-He would do anything for those he loved; He risked the Dementors Curse when he moved closer Hogwarts to keep an eye on Harry in GoF.
-He also risked, and in turn gave, his life in OOTP when he heard Harry was in danger at the Department of Mysteries.
-He truly did care about Harry, when he only knew him for 2 years
-He WAS NOT the teen he was who bullied Snape anymore
-He stayed loyal to the Order!

2) Remus
-He's the logical one
-He was a fighter, through and through
-He was a werewolf, but he didn't turn to the dark side!
-He had to live with being a werewolf since he was a small kid
- He was such a good person, when other werewolves were truly monsters
-Twelve years, he went thinking he lost all his friends, and he lost them ALL in one day! That Halloween, he lost four friends. Three, he thought died (James, Lily & Peter). And one, he thought was a traitor, whom was being sent to Azkaban (Sirius). Imagine, learning all that in ONE day.
-He had Dumbledores trust
-He, like Sirius, fought every time he could
-He stayed loyal to the Order!

3) James
-We don't know much about him, but we KNOW he gave his life for his son, Harry!
-He was young, but he escaped Voldemort 3 times
-He loved Lily so much, that he changed for her
-If he had lived longer, I don't think he would try to pick a fight with Snape anymore
-He was only doing that to impress Lily
-He stayed loyal to the Order!

4) Peter
-What comes to mind, when I think of him? Traitor.
-Coward
-He switched to the Death Eater, after pledging allegiance to the Order
-Now, did he really want to do that? I think, it was out of fear.
-He was not loyal to his friends
-He did NOT stay loyal to the Order.

Now, look at the last reason for each. The first three have something in common, that the 4th will never. They're loyal. Order member or Death Eater, one quality you must have is loyalty. That's my analysis.

elmi amazing and i agree with what you said about James that if he wud have lived he wudn't have piked a fight with Snape anymore.

loveam96 I agree with it all. But what always gets me wondering is why Remus thought Sirius would betray James and Lily like that. I mean, he should of guessed that It couldn't have be Sirius. I mean he turns into a dog! Dogs are loyal to no end. And your amanigus(sorry for spelling) form goes by your traits.

jake10101 Here's the sound of one hand doing a slow clap. I'm sorry but a lot of people are guilty of making the ugly rejects into villains while idolizing the good looking, cool people. This is what I see from a lot of Harry Potter fans. Now let me breakdown your little essay on how wonderful James and Sirius were. Sirius 1-. "He fights for what he believes in" So did a lot of people.. I believe the Death Eaters fought for their cause . Sirius' 3,4- Dude your talking about fighting. Once again, the Death Eaters put up one hell of a fight. Sirius' 2,5- Sure he was brave enough to pull away from his family. He also turned his back on his brother when he needed him the most.. Where was that famous love you're bragging about? Sirius 6- He would do anything for those he loved- Really? Then why did he turn his back on Remus, when the Order suspected Remus of being a spy? Lily made it perfectly clear that they hardly ever saw Remus in her letter to Sirius. Sirius 8-"He truly did care about Harry, when he only knew him for 2 years" - Some people form bonds with kids they've only known for one month. And it helped that Harry looked exactly like James. Heck, Sirius even called Harry " James" more than once. He was clinging to the memory of his childhood friend. He even tried to make Harry do something reckless by saying that "James would have done it". Sirius died too soon for Harry to find out who Sirius really was. Sirius 9.-"He WAS NOT the teen he was who bullied Snape anymore "- Oh, but he was. Reread book 5. Sirius was clearly trying to pick a fight with Snape. He even called him by his hated childhood nickname "Snivellus" to Snape's face. If that's not looking for trouble, then what is? He disrespected Harry's teacher while Harry was watching. Harry became the more mature person by getting between Sirius and Snape because deep down inside, harry knew which wizard was going to fire the first shot, his ever so mature guardian, Sirius. Really, reread the books before you idolize a jerk next time?

jake10101 Now for James. James 3- "He loved Lily so much, that he changed for her"- Did he really? He continued to play pranks. He and Sirius Pranked two Muggle cops after Hogwarts. James continued to harass Snape even after he got the girl. He just made certain that he did it behind Lily's back. And I don't think that Snape was his only victim. James also ruined any chance Lily had of reconciling with her sister when he got into a pissing contest with Vernon. Oh and let's not forget how he wanted to abandon his wife and child in order to have fun. You know, when his family was hiding from Voldemort, under the Fidelus charm? Read Lily's letter. she says that James was having a meltdown because Dumbledore had his Invisibility Cloak. Poor James, the loving family man, couldn't sneak out for some mischief, while his family was in terrible danger. He never really changed or grew up. Lily was just naïve as hell. And it didn't hurt that James was a rich, handsome, popular jock.

That's the only thing that could explain why people choose to make a demon into a saint. He tortured Snape *after* he got Lily as a gf. He simply hated Snape. What's worse, he promised Lily that he would "never bother Snape again" if she just dated him". And what does he do after she dates him. Oh, he makes sure she never catches him in the act of him picking on her (former) best friend. The guy was twisted.

Tasha1993 @jake10101 James did change.He deflated his head and stopped hexing people for fun. He still hexed Snape because Snape still hexed him too. Remus clearly said: "Snape never lost an opportunity to hex James too. You don't expect him to take that lying down do you?" There's no proof that Remus lied about this. James didn't get into a pissing contest with Vernon. Vernon's the one who tried to patronize James by asking about his car and saying out loud that wizards lived of unemployment benefits. Do you expect James to just grin his teeth and accept that insult? Of course he explained about his fortune in Gringotts to dismiss Vernon's accusation that he lived off government unemployment. James did feel ashamed and want to make it up to Vernon, but Vernon refused to speak to him at Vernon and Petunia's wedding. Vernon even called James an amateur magician within earshot during the wedding. His dinner disagreement didn't break Lily and Petunia up. James and Lily were still invited to Vernon and Petunia's wedding. Plus, Petunia was always jealous of Lily anyways. James didn't prank muggle cops.He was on the run from Death Eaters and coincidentally ran into muggle cops. James and Sirius were cheeky in their replies to the cops, but they weren't mean or nasty. They seemed more like clowns than nasty people in that prequel. Who wouldn't get frustrated to be cooped up in a house for more than a year? Lily said that he tried not to show it, meaning he was considerate enough to not show it. Lily could just read him. Lily didn't say that he expressed a desire to go on excursion while in hiding. She just said that he couldn't since he didn't have the cloak. And his cloak was with Dumbledore because James, on his own accord, lent the cloak to Dumbledore. Dumbledore couldn't possibly have forced the cloak out of James as Dumbledore simply did not have the right to force a family heirloom out of him. No one's saying he's a saint, but he's not a demon either. You're completely ignoring all his good points and inflating his bad points. He accepted a werewolf as his friend and became an animagus for his friend. He opened his home to Sirius when Sirius ran away. He financially supported Remus who couldn't find a job due ot being a werewolf. Plus, he didn't show any prejudice against muggle-born, half-breed and werewolves.

Tasha1993 @LifesGoodx3 Great article, but you didn't add that James and Sirius accepted Remus as a friend even after finding out he was a werewolf and how they became illegal aminagi for him. Plus, James opened up his home to Sirius who ran away. James also financially supported Remus when he couldn't find a job due to being a werewolf.
