After I have done with the testing of characters' screen time in this episode, I decided to write an article for this episode. This is the episode where Maya, Willy and Flip went on a big adventure in the forest and is the twenty-fourth episode of the European version. Before I'm going to rank the characters by their amount of screen time, I will explain something about some characters that had appeared in the original book which are Fridolin the bark beetle and his children from the ninth chapter of the book and in the story of the episode, Maya, Willy and Flip went on a long trip in the forest that they got very tired and went to different places to rest and sleep a bit and then continued their trip but they had various troubles like a lizard that went to eat them and when they discovered the fog they couldn't go back to the forest where they were until they met the gravediggers who thought what to do with the little bees and Flip when they passed out from their fatigue but luckily, Maya came to her senses and saw a tree when the fog started to clear and in the end, our heroes managed to get back to their forest in the end. Here are the ranking results that I have gotten for each character who have appeared in the episode:
6. Fridolin's Children (53 seconds)
Yes, Fridolin's children were the ones who got the least screen time out of all characters in this episode. They appeared when their father gave them orders to exercise and learn how to hide from the enemies by the paths that have holes in the tree and when Maya appeared behind their father, he tricked them and told them to go hide from their "enemy" in the holes at the end which is why they are in the last place in the list though.
5. Fridolin (1 minute, 51 seconds)
Yes, Fridolin have gotten some more screen time than his children did, but there is something that I want to explain more about him. In the original book, he and Maya had known each other prior to the events of the ninth chapter and this seems to apply to the anime as well. When Maya came up to him and said "good morning!", she asked him to know why he does these exercises to his children and he told her that he does this to protect them from the woodpeckers which Maya didn't know about these birds in the anime, but somehow she knew these birds in the original book and he explained to her that woodpeckers are their worst enemies because they eat any insect that lives in trees and he explained to her in the original book a tragic story that one of his cousins had been eaten by a woodpecker and her name was "Agathe" which is how Maya learned from Fridolin of the dangers his family had. Also Fridolin showed Maya about the forest from far away that he told her he would like to go there but he never went, so Maya out of her curiosity decided to go to the forest that Fridolin had shown her at the end.
4. The Gravediggers (1 minute, 58 seconds)
Now this is something that might surprise you a bit, but yes, the gravediggers have managed to beat out Fridolin by a few more seconds, but they have failed to make it to 2 minutes of screen time though. The gravediggers appeared when they were burying a corpse of a rat that Flip and the little bees had noticed earlier and quickly ran away in their fright before they learned the rat was dead and saw them burying it in their nest. When they saw them, they were whispering what they were going to do with them and one of the gravediggers flew by them and said hello to them and asked if he and other gravediggers could do anything with them and he thought they were too tired to death and Maya explained to him if he and other gravediggers could help her and her friends to find the forest they want to go back to and he told her that she shouldn't worry about it and that he and other gravediggers will take care of them as they continued to walk together, but again, our heroes were so tired that they all passed out in the end. But before they passed out, the gravediggers were whispering and had a suspicious plan to do to our heroes that they want to catch and eat them when they passed out and when they saw them passed out, they immediately went to catch them until Maya came to her senses and she saw the tree when the fog cleared and told her friends that they managed to find the forest they wanted to go back to and they left happily, but the gravediggers were disappointed that their plan failed in the end and when Flip said goodbye to them, they said goodbye to him even though they were still disappointed. So yes, the gravediggers were the antagonists in this episode, but they haven't beaten out any of our heroes and they also failed to enter the top 3 which is probably another reason why they were so disappointed though.
3. Willy (8 minutes, 32 seconds)
Now this is something that might surprise you a bit more, but despite he got so many screen time in this episode and in the previous two episodes where he got into the second place, he has fallen out of the second place and ended up getting into the third place and earned his ninth bronze medal by the amount of screen time he got overall. When Maya explained to him and Flip to go on a trip to the distant forest together, he refused at first, but decided to go as Maya was leaving at the same time, Flip decided to go with them too. After tiring themselves so much to reach that forest, they lay down and slept for a while. Willy had dreamed that Maya served him honey, but she had eaten it all leaving poor Willy nothing and he was licking the empty plate in tears as he licked Maya's cheek in his sleep and she stopped him from doing this to her while she was sleeping (which I found to be a cute and funny moment in this scene). After that we already know what happened and how our heroes managed to get back to the forest where they were before at the end of the episode.
2. Maya (9 minutes, 8 seconds)
Now this is something that might surprise you even more, but despite she have stayed in the first place in the previous two episodes, she has fallen out of the first place and ended up getting into the second place and earned her eighth silver medal by the amount of screen time she got overall, but I think she didn't make it to the top spot due to the extreme fatigue she had during the events of the episode which is why she lost to one of her friends for once again, but but she still doesn't mind losing to one of her friends because she is very happy when she sees one of her friends win in the end.
1. Flip (10 minutes, 16 seconds)
Now this is something that will make all Flip fans happy is that he have managed to get into the first place for the second time and earned his second gold medal (with his first one he got from the twenty-third episode) by the amount of screen time he got overall in this episode. Just like Willy, Flip wasn't too sure at first if he wanted to go with Maya and Willy to the distant forest because he knew there would be many dangers and that's why he decided in the end to go with the little bees to make that long trip to the forest. But in the end, Flip was right that he and the little bees would get into troubles when they also encountered the gravediggers who wanted to catch and eat them, but luckily, after the fog cleared, they managed to get back to the forest where they were before, so all our heroes were very happy in the end.
