End of Chapter 14
I tried to listen to him, to calm myself but I had just been told that I met a GOD that they were real, I had just seen my mother again, what was she doing with a God? And what was the deal with the old man who changed himself, reappearing as a young man.
"Maija, do you need me to go get help?" He asked, obviously panicking.
"No, please just give me a minute." I said, my breathing slowing.
"What happened?" He asked as he brushed his fingers across my cheek.
"My mom, I dreamed of my mother. She was with the goddess Diana and another man, someone I had never met." I said, not believing what I was saying.
"Diana, your mother...Virbius." He said, his voice changing as he said the last name.
"Who?" I asked.
"Another God, they don't know you aren't ready." He said to himself and to me. "I have to go tell Dale."
"Wait," I said as Michael stood up and walked over to the door, pausing as he looked at me.
"Maija, you have to know about your mother. You must hear this before you dream again." He said as he walked out the door, running down the stairs.
Great....proof that everyone knew what was going on with me. And what did Michael mean that I had to know before I would dream of her/them again?
Chapter 15
I got up and got myself changed, changing into jeans and a hooded sweatshirt before I crept to the top of the stairs, doing my best to be sneaky so that they hopefully wouldn't know I was there.
"We have to tell her, and now." Carol said softly, doing her best to control her temper.
"I don't think she is ready." Dale's voice carried up the stairs, and even up here I knew that there was a sense of finality that most wouldn't argue with.
"Enough." Michael's voice yelled. "She's scared, she doesn't know what's going on and everyone.."
"You will remember your place young one." Elise said as she cut him off. "Maijalissa, come down dear, your hiding at the top of the stairs is not helping."
I gasped in a breath, realizing that I had forgotten her ability to 'see' things. I stood up, brushing the dust off my jeans before I walked down the stairs into the kitchen. I smiled when I saw everyone turn to look at me, my aunts, Dale, Elise, Michael, Celest and Maxine all watching me as I came down the stairs.
"Maija," Jan said as she got up and hugged me, holding me tightly for a minute before she let go and walked back to her spot.
I noticed that Maxine had moved to stand next to Michael who was watching me like I would drop from exhaustion at any moment. I smiled at him and tried not to laugh when he winked back as he smiled.
"How are Piper and Concho?" I asked Maxine, knowing that she had most likely been taking care of them.
"Piper is doing amazingly well, she is eager for you to ride her again." She said as she smiled. "Concho, well...he's a horse of a different color. He received a few good scratches along his flanks, but won't let me close enough to tend to them."
"Oh poor Concho." I said as I took a step towards the back door, reaching for the handle until someone grabbed my arm and stopped me in my place. "What!?" I yelled as I spun, pulling my arm against my side as I looked at everyone.
"Maija," My aunt Carol said, her tone letting me know that her patience were getting thin.
"No. I've had enough." I said as I turned to open the door, which was now blocked by Dale. "Please let me go, I can't deal with all of this."
"No young one," He said as he reached his arms out and hugged me. "You must hear the truth, we should have told you earlier and I apologize for keeping it a secret."
"Please, come with us." Elise said as she reached an arm out and wrapped it around my shoulder.
I couldn't argue, I knew that I had to find out what was going on. No matter how much I wanted to run to the stables to comfort Concho and Piper I had to wait, I had to hear them out. I let them lead me into the parlor, sitting when they walked me to the couch. I noticed that everyone followed us in, my aunts taking spots on either side of me on the couch while Maxine and Michael went and sat on the floor by the fireplace, Dale took the chair to my right with Celest standing behind his chair and Elise took the chair to my left.
"Where to start?" Dale said more to himself then to anyone else in the room.
"Why don't you start with her mother?" Celest asked as she smiled at me.
"Your mother," Dale said as he shook his head, remembering times long past. "As you now know, you come from a family of Nymphs. Your mother was/is very special to your kind."
"My kind?" I asked, realizing that he was saying that I was a Nymph, how did I got seventeen years without noticing that?
"Yes dearest Maija, your kind. We will explain more of that later, unless you want to hear that now and learn about your mother later?"
Dale said, his eyes twinkling as he teased me.
"No, please continue about my mother." I said softly, making a mental note to myself to ask later about what he meant.
"Your mother was a water nymph, now what does that mean? As you have read in your books, there are wood, land, water and...other types of nymphs we can discuss when your older. Your mother was a water nymph, as is your aunt Carol, Janet, well Janet is a wood nymph or dryad." He said as he turned and smiled at each of them.
"Your mother and aunts moved here about twenty years ago, settling in was easy I'm sure seeing as how your house is surrounded by woods, and there is the river running through the back. You know the story of how your parents met, and everything in between. What you don't know is that we didn't know about you until we got the invite." Dale said as he glared at Janet and Carol.
"Sorry," Carol said softly.
"Forgive us father." Jan said, shocking me into another realization.
I turned and glared at Dale and Elise, wondering if what my aunt had just said was true, was he really her father...was he really my grandfather? I hadn't realized I was holding my breath until everything started to swim around the edges, Michael running forward and grabbing my shoulders.
"Breath Maija," He said as he pulled me off the couch and into his arms. "Please, don't go back to sleep." He said softly against my head, right next to my ear.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
'Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!'
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One two! One two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
