OPENING SCENE

Prudence Connor pulls up at her garage in a flat bed truck carrying General Hayden DeBeck's crushed limo. Climbing out of the truck, she reaches into the cab and pulls out a crow bar. With great intent, she begins pounding on the limo's door and smashing out the windows.

At Headquarters, during the morning briefing, Lead Investigator Gary Fredo crosses DeBeck off the suspect board stating that enough blood and brain matter was found to assume his death. Jeff comments that very few sweepers are around, possibly because they have no one to follow, except maybe Rev. Rusty Crandall. Gary adds that the Reverend, who was allegedly driving the limo, is nowhere to be found.

INVESTIGATIVE DAY 19

Morning Briefing continues. Because there are only four investigators left, the Lifeguard will now go out on all investigative tracks, though they will continue to be exempt from playing the Killer's game. In her "Last Will & Testament," Kristen names Angel the Lifeguard stating he is trust worthy and loved by the entire group. In an interview, Angel reveals that he told Kristen that if she names him lifeguard, he will make sure that Jeff learns what it feels like to be sent out again and again.

Next, Jeff summarizes his Killer track from the night before describing the flaming O.S.L. logo and the piece of paper he brought back. Gary shows this piece of paper, which appears to be a logo or coat of arms for the O.S.L.

Assigning the tracks, Gary wants Team One to go talk to the Mayor and see what he knows about the O.S.L. logo. Team Two will go and search DeBeck's limo looking for clues. They will also try and find Rev. Rusty and ask him about the accident.

Angel and Jeff meet Mayor Bowden at the Sunset Club. He is clearly disturbed to here the name O.S.L. He tells them that when he was a kid there was a lot of crime in Sunrise and that there was a man in town with an O.S.L. logo tattooed on his arm who used to terrorize the town. He was given thirty years in a mental institution. After serving this time he was released, but now, ironically, works as the caretaker in the abandoned institution. Mayor Bowden says the man's name is Orlando Whist and that he was a "bad, bad man." Gary arranges for Jeff and Angel to fly to New Hampshire to meet with Orlando Whist's employer.

Katie and Alan go to Connor's garage to search the limo. Alan suggests that Connor had a reason to kill DeBeck, to keep the $250,000. Katie and Alan tear the interior completely apart and all they find is a .357 shell casing.

In New Hampshire, Jeff and Alan meet with Earnest Talman who works for Manchester Holding: part of a local bank that owns the closed mental facility that Orlando Whist is the caretaker for. Talman takes them to the building. They find Whist hiding in the bowels of the building. Angel tells him about their findings and asks him what the O.S.L. is.

"Order of the Scarlet Lupine," he answers. Named after the flower that grows wild on the coast. He tells them that the O.S.L. was a secret organization in the late thirties and early forties made up of prominent businessmen in the area, Doctors, lawyers, bankers, the Mayor, the Chief of police, etc. They ruled the town. They decided who would get to stay in Sunrise and who had to leave. They started businesses like the Kingfisher Cannery. He shows them his tattoo and says he was a member. When Jeff and Angel ask him to name other members he yells no and tells them to leave.

Outside, Jeff is angry at having traveled so far for so little information. He convinces Angel that they should go back inside and ask more questions. On the second attempt, they are more successful as Whist tells them of the O.S.L. headquarters at 1102 Kiley Street, second floor. This is the info they need.

Alan and Katie begin their search for Rev. Rusty at DeBeck's compound. They are with Mary Elizabeth. The building is in shambles as Sweepers have destroyed the interior. Many wander aimlessly around the facility like zombies, lost without their leader. The investigators finally find Rusty on his knees in deep prayer inside the Logic tank.

As they approach, Rusty yells at Mary Elizabeth for bringing them to him. He then proceeds to tell them of the vision he had the night he was driving DeBeck's limo. As he remembers it, he was driving along a dark road when he was completely blinded by a bright light, like "Paul on his way to Damascus." Then suddenly "Bang! My faith returned." He then describes that everything went black. And when he woke up he was upside down and disoriented and there was water dropping on him, and he was "being baptized again."

Rusty goes on to say that he couldn't feel his body, but that he could see DeBeck struggling and he was calling out to him "Help me, Rusty, help me. Then I see an angel glide toward him. And the Angel struck him down with a lightning bolt!"

Alan asks the Reverend to put the white outfit on and let Rusty talk to them. But the Reverend says that Rusty is dead and gone and that "the true Rusty has been resurrected." He then shouts at them to leave him now. And so they leave with Alan stating that Rusty "is nuts."

Later that evening, Reverend Rusty delivers a sermon in his church. Most of the town is there. He tells them that even as he sat at the "right hand of DeBeck," like Jesus at the right hand of God, Hayden DeBeck began to believe he was God and was struck down by the Angel of Death for having lost his way.

The Reverend continues, "That's why my angel killed him. That's why I killed the Flints. I killed the Flints to punish them for their sins….I killed them for God." He becomes hysterical. Jimmy Tinker lunges at the Reverend and has to be restrained. William Lambert gets up and leaves the church. Others are startled and confused as Rusty becomes fanatical. This revelation has surprised everyone.

INVESTIGATIVE DAY 20

Morning Briefing. Gary informs the group that Duncan has arrested Rusty for the murder of the Flint's and the others killed in Sunrise. Also, the .357 shell found in DeBeck's limo matches the other shell found in previous murders. He then assigns tracks.

Team One will go to 1102 Kiley Street and investigate the O.S.L. Headquarters and membership. They will then go out to the old fire road where Chief Duncan has found an abandoned pick-up truck that matches the description given to them by the owner of the Trekker's Motor Lodge several days ago. Team Two will go to the Sunrise police station and interrogate Reverend Rusty Crandall to determine whether he is indeed the Killer.

After being trained by an expert in lock picking techniques, Angel and Jeff arrive at the O.S.L. Headquarters. Angel successfully picks the exterior door lock to gain entrance to the building. Inside are another set of doors, with a deadbolt and Jeff grows impatient. Rather than picking the lock, Jeff forces the doors open. At yet another locked door, Jeff again kicks the door in. Angel feels this is needlessly excessive and that the stretch of the investigation is getting to Jeff.

The final door reveals a giant meeting hall, dusty, yet undisturbed, as if the organization suddenly folded up shop and the room was left untouched for years. Adorning the walls are O.S.L. logos. In the middle of the room is a podium on which rests a book of rules for the secret society. The investigators also find what an old wire-recording spool, which they take as evidence. It is a recording of the final minutes from the last meeting of the O.S.L. "The O.S.L.," states Angel, "was a crime organization."

At Police Headquarters, Alan sits with Rusty in an interrogation room, while Katie and Duncan watch via a closed circuit monitor. Rusty first talks about how his father founded the First Church of Sunrise. Alan, hoping to establish a rapport tells him that his mother started their local church. He seems to be gaining Rusty's confidence.

Rusty finally begins to describe the murders. He tells of chasing Leita Rose-Blodgett, knocking her down and shaving her head. His description is matching the actual murder perfectly. But then he says he grabbed a cord from the floor, wrapped it around her neck and pulled until she died. Katie quickly points out to Duncan that that wasn't how Leita died.

Alan asks Rusty about Thibodeaux and Rusty says he beat him to death with a shovel. He goes on to say that he stabbed Abbey to death with a knife as she sat on her bed. All of his descriptions of the various murders are wrong. Katie feels he may be lying on purpose since it is clear the Killer is a very smart person. Duncan says he can't hold Rusty without any real evidence. He says there is no crime in being crazy, as long as he doesn't hurt himself or others. Rusty is released.

Angel and Jeff go out to the fire road and find the stuff stolen from the motel room strewn all over the road. Among the items are a can of 16mm infrared film, a 16mm camera and a painting. Inside the painting they find a dusty black envelope. They take all of the items back to HQ with them.

Once at HQ, they open the envelope and find an old black and white photograph of a family standing around a table preparing for a meal. They decide it must be a photo of the Duchamps family. There are nine people in the photo. There is a circle drawn around the little boy at the center of the picture.

A knock at the front door brings the investigators downstairs. It is Mary Elizabeth, wearing Abby's cheerleading sweater, who is concerned for C.R. Flint's safety now that Rusty has been released from jail. She says that C.R. has been hearing noises at night and is "totally freaked out." She says she is also scared for her own safety given how the Reverend has apparently turned on her. She asks Katie and Alan to come stay with her and C.R. at the Flint house that night. They agree.

The investigators reassure C.R. that everything is okay. Mary Elizabeth puts on a fashion show for everyone, modeling Abby's clothes for C.R. who calls her "Abby." This seems to please Mary Elizabeth. After a while, Alan tells Katie that he will stay outside in the car and watch the house from the exterior and that she should stay with C.R. and not let him out of her sight.

Alan leaves and sits in Moe's cab while Katie and Mary Elizabeth sit in Abby's room and talk about how cute Alan is. Alan calls to Katie on the radio and gets no answer. Concerned, he runs back inside and up to the room where he discovers that Katie's radio is off. He tells her to make sure she leaves it on. He leaves again to sit vigil outside.

Back at HQ, Angel logs in all of the evidence he and Jeff collected while Jeff eats dinner.

Several hours have passed and it is now dark. The calm of the night is broken by the eerie green glow of the Killer's camera watching the house and Alan from across the street. Upstairs, Katie and Mary Elizabeth continue to talk in Abby's bedroom. Suddenly, C.R., who has been asleep, starts moaning. The girls run in to him and find him in extreme discomfort. Mary Elizabeth tells Katie to stay with C.R. while she runs down stairs to get some water.

Outside, Alan is unaware of the various events beginning to unfold. Suddenly, a gunshot rings out. Alan immediately calls to Katie on his radio as he runs up the front steps. He is concerned for Katie as it dawns on him that Mary Elizabeth could be the Killer they're looking for. Alan then radios to Angel at HQ and tells him there was a gunshot and to standby.

Katie finally answers him on the radio. Alan enters the house and tells Katie, who has come down the stairs to go back up and check on Mr. Flint. Alan starts checking the house and can not find Mary Elizabeth anywhere. Katie comes back downstairs to help. She goes into the kitchen and checks the back door. Suddenly, she looks down and realizes that she is standing in a puddle of blood. The Killer has claimed his next victim.

Duncan soon arrives and is quite upset that the Killer has pulled off a murder right under the noses of the investigators. A .357 shell casing is found in the blood. Samantha arrives and takes C.R. back to the diner. Katie feels partially responsible for what happened.

INVESTIGATIVE DAY 21

In the morning briefing, Gary too says that things are heating up and that Duncan's agitation is understandable. The Killer could have been in the cellar waiting the whole time. Katie points out that everyone who has tried to help them has been killed. The group still feels that the Reverend is a very strong suspect. Katie recalls Rusty telling her to be aware of the "whore of Babylon," Mary Elizabeth, thus giving him another motive for her murder.

The investigators discuss their findings from the day before. They feel the unexposed infrared film belongs to the Killer, as it is the type of film that's been used to photograph the murders at night. Gary also asks them why they think the photo is of the Duchamps family? Angel points out that in the lower left hand corner on the back of the picture, it reads "Duchamps family Thanksgiving Dinner, 1940." Further, there are nine people in the photo, which the lighthouse keeper says was the number of people in the Duchamps family.

Jeff suggests that the little boy, circled in the photo could be the Burnt Man as the photo was taken one year before the Burnt Man said he was burned and fell into the ocean, which was in 1941. He further feels that the Burnt Man placed the photo in the back of the painting in the motel before he killed himself. Somehow, the Killer knew it was there and was searching for it.

Gary turns his attention to the black and red envelopes that were found at the diner that morning. The Killer question in the red envelope reads: What bible chapter says: "When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous and terror to the evil doers." Katie and Alan remember Reverend Rusty quoting this line during his interrogation and remember it is from Proverbs. However, they cannot remember the chapter and verse, which is what the Killer wants.

Alan gets up and leaves the room, returning a moment later with his bible. He turns to Proverbs and finds it, Proverbs 21 verse 15. Alan states he would be "kicked out of his church" if he missed that question. The answer is correct and the Killer removes Mayor Emerson Bowden from the suspect list.

That afternoon, Jeff tells Angel that if Katie gets picked by the team to go out, that he wants Angel to pick him as the second person. He loves the rush of playing the Killer's game and wants to go out again.

In the voting, Katie votes for Jeff stating that he doesn't have any respect for the townspeople. Alan is torn. He says that Jeff's behavior while questioning Kovick a couple of days ago scared him a bit, but in the end votes for Katie. Jeff votes for Katie because he feels he has bonded with Alan while living with him. Katie is the choice of the group. Angel fulfills his promise to Jeff and selects him as the other person to go out. Jeff can get a second rush of adrenaline.

The location envelopes are opened and Katie will be going to the high school. Jeff will be going to the old Kingfisher Cannery.

In her "Last Will & Testament," Katie expresses sincere shock that Alan voted for her instead of Jeff, the person he told her he would vote for. She comments that you think you know someone but you really don't.

As the two depart, Angel is genuinely concerned for Katie and expresses a very clear hope for her return. In his cab, X-Ray realizes that Katie is the last surviving girl.

Jeff is dropped off just up the hill from the cannery building and he hikes down the road and enters through an open doorway. The building is totally gutted and full of metal pipes, fallen concrete walls and lots of trash. As with his last journey, he is pumped full of energy and yells loudly as he winds his way through the factory. "Here I am…Can you here me?" he yells, laughing.

Outside the high school, X-Ray wishes Katie a "good journey" in his native tongue. She enters the back of the gymnasium and crosses the basketball court. Giant shafts of light pierce the otherwise pitch-black gym. She exits through another door and heads downstairs towards the women's locker room.

Jeff continues his destructive journey through the cannery, kicking whatever comes into his path and yelling, "Bring it on! Bring it on!" There is a huge crash behind him as a giant piece of metal falls from the ceiling. Jeff screams, "Yeah, that's what I like!"

Back at Headquarters Angel and Alan sit in the living room waiting. Angel comments, "Oh, man, I hope that little girl comes back. I hope Katie comes back."

In the locker room, Katie is startled by the crash of some sporting equipment behind her. But there is no one there. She crosses the dark room towards the showers, which are on. As she turns the corner, she sees the telltale signature of the Killer, a giant Lupine "X." She heads towards it.

Jeff walks down a short corridor that empties into another large building. Across the room he sees a metal barrel with a fire burning in it. It is sitting next to a concrete wall with a hole in it. Below the hole is an "X" made with bloody Lupine flowers. Jeff continues to scream and kick things. "I can feel it! I can feel it!" he shouts as he kicks the flowers to the ground and starts kicking the wall.

Katie enters the shower and reaches for the flowers. The green glow of the camera hurtles towards her. Katie screams and falls to the floor. Flash. Bang. Katie is eliminated.

Jeff calms for a moment as he looks into the hole and sees the now familiar O.S.L. logo painted on the giant metal door of a vault. The vault door is shut and there is a combination lock. He picks up the flowers and yells, "It's a good night for dying, but it's not me!"

Back in the briefing room, Angel, Alan and Gary wait to see which investigator will return. Angel expresses his thoughts on Jeff to Gary. "I think I'm upset in his entire attitude with just about everything. He mistreats Kristen. And then when we try and make amends, when we try and correct the situation, he's not willing to bend a little."

In the cab ride home, Jeff laughs to Moe saying, "Kristen, she went out five times in a row man. And she sure wasn't volunteering, I'll tell you that."

Angel continues, "You know at first, Kristen and I didn't get along as well. But afterwards she was willing to do whatever was necessary to make the atmosphere better in the house. But he wasn't willing to and you know what? We don't need someone like that in the house. So I was willing to put him out."

Moments later, there are footsteps coming up the stairs. Jeff appears and the first words from Angel's lips are, "Damn, my little girl's gone." Jeff responds, "What, did you doubt me?" Angel answers, "I wanted my little girl to come back." Jeff says, "I'm sure you did." Jeff then steps up towards Angel with his outstretched hand, bloodied from the Lupine "X," and says, "Feel that Angel, feel it." Angel says no and backs off. Jeff persists saying that "it's your personality, Angel." Angel asks, "Why should I get my hands dirty?" Jeff then goes to Alan and asks him to feel it. Alan shakes his hand.

Jeff then asks Angel how many times he's gone out? Angel says "None." Jeff says, "It's your personality." Angel asks, "What's my personality?" "Realize this Angel…" begins Jeff. Angel interrupts, "What do I need to realize? Give me a motivational speech, please." Jeff obliges, "The bigger the risks the bigger the reward. Remember that." Angel throws it back, "You take the risks, I get the rewards."

Jeff continues, "I come up these stairs and it's almost like you wish that I'd died." Angel admits it, "I wanted Katie to come back." He continues, "You know what it is…Jeff…people like you and me don't get along."

Later, in the bunkroom, Jeff tells Angel, "You have no ambition." Angel responds, "You're a model, I'm a fireman. All you do is pose for a living." Jeff then tells Angel "this has a whole new meaning of safe house for you. You wait." Angel jumps to his feet. "Oh really? Are you threatening me? Because if you're threatening me, bring it brother, bring it!"

5 Suspects and 3 Investigators remain.
