First off, I would like to assure everyone that though Thutner is, and will always be, my ship, I’m not here to bash Foreteen shippers, just to share my point of view on current and future events.
I was not entirely surprised with the unveiling of the Foreteen spoiler. House said to Foreman once, “You need someone just as detached and ambitious as you are. You need yourself in a skirt.” This is not far off the mark. Thirteen is as detached as Foreman is, she’s willing to stand up to House like Foreman is, and she’s every bit as ambitious as Foreman is. I don’t think she’s as arrogant as Foreman is, but still, it’s a clear majority. So objectively, I think Foreteen is very plausible.
Thirteen and Kutner had some very interesting moments throughout the second half of the fourth season. Many of these moments lead me to believe that they would be good together. We’ve only ever seen Thirteen smile a few times. Most of those times were when she was with Kutner. Granted some of them were coincidental, Kutner just happened to be there, but many of them couldn’t have happened without him. Taking this into account, I would say that Thutner is also very plausible.
Looking into the future, it’s clear that there will be something between Thirteen and Foreman. I’m also fairly certain that it will end. Most of the significant relationships on the show have been between to main characters. With the exception of Stacy, none of the really important relationships, meaning not things like Foreman had a girlfriend for three episodes or Cuddy has a date, brought in a new character. The border line of that rule would be Wilson and Amber, because Amber wasn’t signed for the season. However, she was already in the show before that relationship began. We already knew her character very well.
Considering that point, we also have to remember that there are at least three seasons left after season 5 (according to what I read), and there are only three women on the show. Given this information, I don’t know that it’s possible to set one of them up with the person they’re destined to be with through the end of the show and still have a steady supply of possibilities, especially when you consider (objectively, not just from a Huddy point of view) that other than House, Cuddy hasn’t been with anyone else on the show, so that really only leaves Thirteen and Cameron. I think it would be safe to believe that even if Foreman and Thirteen end up together at the end of the show, they will break up at some point before then.
Next point: of the characters in any of the central relationships, at least one of the two has been in more than one central relationship. Wilson had his third wife and then Amber, Cameron had House and then Chase, House had Cameron and then Stacy and now Cuddy, etc. If this theory hold true, since neither Thirteen nor Foreman has ever been in a central relationship before, at least one of them will go on the be in another one. Again, objectively, I think the chance that that character will be Foreman are pretty slim. That leaves Thirteen. The options for Thirteen get pretty slim when you exclude the less likely characters, like House and Chase. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that that character will be Kutner, especially with the moment they’ve had already. There are other possibilities, Wilson, for example. The only reason I’m prone to disregard Wilson is because he and Thirteen have hardly even spoken to each other.
So in conclusion, I’m saying to Foreteen fans, ‘Yes, I think they have potential, which is why I’ve decided to keep an open mind at this point.’ To Thutner fans I’m saying ‘Don’t worry too much. The chances still look pretty good, just not in the immediate future.’
