1x09: I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
Rachel was sitting in her classroom after school finishing up some extra paper work she had when she looked up and noticed Robb walking out of the attendance office holding a little boys hand. Right behind him was the red haired woman she had seen earlier. Rachel’s eye brows shot up, “No, way. He has a kid?” she said to herself in shock. And of course right at that moment Robb looked up and saw her. His face immediately broke into a smile and he waved at her. He then indicated for the red haired woman to follow him and came into the classroom. Rachel awkwardly smiled and stood up, “Hey!”
“I was hoping to run into you!” Robb said happily. He then pulled the little boy forward, “This is Brett. He’s going to be your new student.”
Rachel smiled down, “Hey, Brett.” She smiled. “We’re so excited to have you.” She then turned towards Robb, “You have a kid?”
Robb looked at her shocked and laughed, “What? No, this is my nephew.” He smiled and then turned towards the woman behind him. “This is Ygritte. She’s my sister-in-law.”
The woman stepped forward and held her hand out, “Hey, it’s nice to meet you! Robb told me about the car accident.”
Rachel blushed, “Yeah, I’m like the worst driver.”
Ygritte laughed, “No, I thought it was funny. It’s great that you guys met up again after all these years.”
Suddenly Brett spoke up, “Momma, I got to go bathroom.” He whined.
Ygritte smiled, “Duty calls. I’ll take him and be right back.” She said turning towards Robb and the leading Brett out the door.
Rachel turned towards Robb, “He’s so adorable.”
Robb smiled, “Yeah.”
“Do you mind if I ask….?”
“Why it’s me taking him to get signed up for school and not my brother?” Robb laughed.
“Sorry.” Rachel said crunching up her face. “Is that too personal?”
They both then smiled at each other remembering how he had said the same thing to her a few days back.
“My brother and Ygritte had been dating since they were teenagers. She got pregnant, they got married early, he got involved in some bad stuff, got into alcohol, and yeah. Things just got bad. But now he’s in rehab fixing himself. But I like to help out whenever I can.” He said smiling.
Rachel stared at him in shock, if she already didn’t think he was admirable before she definitely did now. “Wow.” Rachel said admiration clear in her voice.
Robb smiled, “Well, I should get going. But I’ll text you?”
Rachel nodded her head, “Of course.”
Atie walked up to the student council room when she noticed Liam standing outside. She awkwardly waved at him, “Hey.”
Liam smiled, “Hey, what are you doing here?”
“I’m just waiting for my sister. You?”
Liam grimaced, “I’m waiting for, um….”
“Gemma, right.” Atie said nodding her head.
They both stood in awkward silence for a couple of minutes when Liam spoke up, “So what do you do while waiting for your sister?”
“Physics club.” Atie said simply.
“Ah, nice.” Liam said. “You’re smart.”
“It’s whatever.” Atie said shrugging her shoulders.
Liam smirked, “You good at Chemistry too?”
“Yeah, Chemistry is nice.” Atie said shrugging “I think it’s important to have chemistry.” She said clearly talking about the science.
“Yeah, I think so too.” Liam said shooting her a look, clearly not talking about the science at all.
Before Atie could respond students began to file out of the student council room. Rana walked out and noticed her sister with Liam. “Hey, bug.” She said walking up to Atie.
Atie glared at Rana, “Don’t call me that in public.” She hissed.
Rana smiled and rolled her eyes and then turned towards Liam, “Your girlfriend is inside and could probably use some help. You should go.” Rana said raising her eyebrows.
“Yes, of course.” Liam said quickly walking into the classroom.
“Why did you do that?” Atie groaned as she and Rana were walking towards the exit. “Not let him talk to me?”
“Because you’re in deep water right now, Bug”, Rana said. “And you can’t even swim.”
Atie groaned. “Will you stop smothering me? There is nothing going on between me and Liam!”
“The way he looks at you is not a friendly way”, Rana said.
Atie’s smile widened. “Really?”
“See?!” Rana snapped. “You want him to have a thing for you! He has a girlfriend!”
“But they are clearly not happy, you know”, Atie pointed out.
“Maybe they’re not”, Rana sighed. “But do you really want to be with a guy who refuses to leave his girlfriend?”
Atie said nothing, just stared at the ground as they walked.
“I’m sorry, was that too harsh? Today has been challenging.”
“Why?” Atie asked curiously.
“Let’s just say that Jasper is not as innocent as I thought he was.”
Before Atie could ask any further, Rachel pulled over into the parking lot and gestured for them to get in, which they did.
“What’s with the smile?” Rana asked.
“What smile?” Rachel asked.
“You do have a weird smile”, Atie chuckled, and Rana nodded in agreement.
Rachel blushed, trying to stop smiling. “It’s nothing. I just had a good day.”
Rana leaned over to whisper to Atie: “A crush is what she has.”
Atie nodded. “Definitely.”
That night Rana was in her bedroom, listening to music when her phone beeped. She sighed, checking the text. Okay, it was from Jasper. And she ignored it. But when he sent another one a few minutes later, which said that he would come and ring the doorbell unless she came down, she had to stop ignoring him.
She sneaked out of her room, careful not to wake anyone as she rushed out of the apartment.
She walked down the stairs to the lowest floor of the apartment building, sighing as she saw Jasper standing in front of her. “If you’re here to grovel, it is way too late. Look, I don’t care. You do what you want. If kicking a person’s ass gives you some sort of a weird high, then that’s your thing.”
“Rana, stop talking”, Jasper rolled his eyes. For a moment the hallway was silent. Until Jasper continued. “The reason I did what I did was because I knew it was what you wanted to do, too. You were just too… scared or worried or guilty to actually do it. He treats everyone like crap. He had it coming.”
Rana rolled her eyes. “My point still stands. It is not up to you who deserves it or doesn’t deserve it. How would you feel if someone beat you up because they felt you deserved it?”
“I’d take it like a man.”
“Oh, for Christ’s sake”, Rana chuckled, ready to walk up the stairs back to the apartment when Jasper walked forwards, grabbing her hand in his.
Rana looked at him in confusion, but her question was soon answered when Jasper locked lips with her, holding her close by the waist, inviting her in for a very heated make-out session. One that Rana gladly responded to, for a moment forgetting her anger.
She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and held him as they kissed. This continued for the better part of a minute, until Rana finally pushed back.
“I have to go”, she said, out of breath.
“Okay”, Jasper said, smiling at her. He watched as she rushed up the stairs, officially now knowing that he was crazy about this girl.
