Thera's POV
She was the outcast. The nomad. The one who had been bullied. The one who was sweating as she walked to her new homeroom. Five years ago she had been Autumn Tremayne, the eight year old half tomboy and a total wimp. Then, she was the one in the pink t-shirt who couldn't even hit the ball. She would strike out and the others would bully her for it.
But no more. Her father took her out of public school and she became the total tomboy, rejecting pink and wearing boy's clothes. She took kickboxing and played softball and bakugan. She became the second-best pyrus brawler in the world and when the bakugan went home, her partner stayed. Now bakugan interspace was up, and Thera Harton was number 4. She had made it, and just in time. Three weeks ago, her mom died ina car accident and Thera had to go to school, which was where she was now, walking down the hallway of bayview high after her new principal. "I understand this isn't your first time at school?" she asked. "I don't go into history, but under this name, no. Bayview elementary, 3rd grade.Autumn Tremayne was pulled out because of bullying that went too far. But I don't want it public, If you don't mind."
"All right then, it's our little secret. Ah, here we are. Welcome to homeroom." She opened the door of room A113 just as the bell rang.
Shun's POV
"Hey, everyone!" Said Julie, walking in. She was obviously exited about something. Either that or she really had to lay off the caffine. She was wiggling and squirming. "Hey, Julie. You seem exited about something," replied Jake.
"Like, yeah! You've heard about the new girl, right?"
"Yeah, what of it?" Asked Dan.
"I looked her up online and she's got an award for finest essay from the homeschooling convention last year. What does that tell you about her?"
"That she's been homeschooled her whole life?"Guessed Jake.
"Uhh!" Said Julie. "She writes essays! Really good essays! Who other than Marucho do you know thatwrites essays for fun?"
"She must be like a total nerd!" Laughed Dan.
"Well, you'll find out today," I said.
"What??" They all asked.
"You heard me. I heard Mrs. Palmer telling Sally yesterday." Just then, Sally came in. She was short and plump and really sweet. She had blonde hair and hazel eyes. "Sests, please!" She said. "Class, we are getting a new student today, and I would like to make sure that she feels welcome. She has been assigned to our homeroom, after all."
"Yes, Ma'm," we all said.
"Shun?" She said.
"Yes, Ma'm?" I replied.
"The new girl will be seated next to you, so don't bother her, all right?"
"Yes, Ma'm." I said.
"Yes, Ma'm!" Mimicked Malcom from across the room. Man, I hated that guy. He'd been mean from the day he started at bayview high. Thenthe bell rang, so I didn't have to think about how much he needed detention anymore. Mrs. Palmer walked in the door, followed by the weirdest- and coolest girl I'd ever seen. I was sure that I'd seen her picture on the #4 ranking in BI. She had long brown hair and a waist-length red jacket over a boy's black screen-print tee and boy's jeans. She wore a bakumeter. Yep, this was the girl, 1,000 percent. Her brown eyes scanned the classroom, meeting each person's eyes with the same look: Don't mess with me.Some of the kids, like Dan and Julie, cowered under it. Malcom however, smirked. This girl had an enemy. "Class," said Mrs. Palmer, "This is Thera Harton. Thera, this is Sally, your new teacher. Sally, can you take over?"
"Definitely," replied Sally.
"Very well. Carry on." Mrs. Palmer left the room. "Tell us a little about yourself, Thera," said Sally.
"Well, I've been been homeschooled all my life and I have the award for finest essay from the DIVE into math homeschooling convention last year. I am also pretty good at softball and have a pet cat and a hamster." Replied Thera.
"You don't look like an essay writer," said Malcom. "I'm a girl of many talents," she replied smoothly.
"Well!" Said Sally, "It's nice to meet you, Thera. Here's your new scedule. You'll be sitting next to Shun in the third row, right over there. Shun, will you raise your hand, please?" I raised my hand. Thera walked over and sat down next to me and looked at me again, but the look was different this time, more sad than aggresive. Then Sally started talking, and she looked away.
Thera's POV
I was amazed. Was it a conspiracy? Three of the original bakugan battle brawlers in my classroom and two of my favorite to boot! Dan, the hothead, and Shun, who had much of the same past as I. Shun, the ninja dude with sadness in his heart. I thought about it all through Sally's lecture, but amazingly, I still aced. I was better a math than I thought, I guess. This was going to be a walk in the park.

Eyes full of pain chapter two: The teapot incident;

Shun's POV
Two weeks passed like lightning. Thera had been acing, and Malcom had been holding his peace. But she still hadn't spoken to me, exept in the english class debate. Until today.
"Mind if I play?" Someone said. Dan and Jake and I were playing horse during recess, and Julie was watching from a park bench nearby. I looked over and saw that it was Thera, sitting under a tree with a hardback novel. "Sure, why not?" Dan said. "Call it! Bakugan, brawl!" It bounced off. Thera was next. "Call it. I'm a little teapot, short and stout," she sang the whole song, and I was next. The ball sank, a perfect three-pointer. I would have to sing it. "Well, Shun?" She said. "Are you going to sing it, or are you not as tough as your BI ranking makes you look?"
The others looked extremely uncomortable. Exept Dan, who looked like he was really trying not to laugh. That was Dan for you.Bynow, a crowd had gathered. Great. Now I could make myself look ridiculous in front of an audience. Oh, well. All or nothing. "I'm a little teapot, short and stout," Thera looked like she was trying to laugh. "Here is my handle, here is my spout," Jake looked ready to give his little scream. "When I get all steamed up hear me shout," Julie bolted. "Tip me over, and pour me out." The ball flew, and the ball sank, a perfect shot. Great, lose my rep and get a great shot. Malcom and some other kids started laughing. Some kids looked sad. And some kids looked like they thought it was funny, but they knew it wasn't. The bell rang, and we all made a dash for the doors. When we got to math, Julie was waiting for us. She looked ready to cry. She looked up at us with a look that meant: I'm sorry. Malcom and his buddies arrived, giving us dirty looks, every one else arrived, giving us either sympathetic looks or looks that were more to the others, like Why do you even hang out with this guy? But one person didn't even look. For a girl who had just ruined my rep deliberately, she looked pretty unhappy.
