The next morning, Jimmy got a call from both Charles and Felix. He gave them directions to his home so that they could have a jam session. Jimmy went into the guest bedroom, where Les was sleeping. Jimmy shook Les at the shoulder and said, "Les! Wake up! Charles and Felix are going to be here soon." Les let out a groan. Jimmy said, "I know you don't want to wake up when you're sleeping good, but you want to be awake for a jam session, don't you?" Les opened his eyes and got out of bed. After a quick breakfast, they heard the doorbell ring. Jimmy's mother answered the door. Charles and Felix stood at the door. Jimmy's mother said, "You must be the boys Jimmy told me about." Charles said, "Yes, we are. You must be Jimmy's mother." She said, "Yes, I am. Come on in." When they came inside, Les asked, "Are you ready for a jam session?" Felix said, "Yeah." Charles said, "Let's rock and roll!" Charles and Felix followed Les and Jimmy to the basement. Jimmy's dogs, Venus and Mars were hanging out in the basement. Charles asked, "Do your dogs stay in the basement all the time, Jimmy?" Jimmy replied, "No. They just like to hang out down here when it's hot outside. It feels cool down here." Venus and Mars went to Charles and Felix and immediately asked for pets. Charles and Felix gladly petted them behind the ears. Soon, Les, Jimmy, Charles, and Felix began their jam session. They had chemistry. After a few songs, Les said, "It's official. We're a band." Charles and Felix smiled. Just then, Jimmy's mother came into the basement and said, "I made peanut butter cookies for everyone!" The foursome went upstairs to have some cookies. As they munched on their cookies, Charles asked, "Les, are you and Jimmy brothers?" Les replied, "Yes and no. We're not brothers by blood; we're brothers by choice." Jimmy said, "We grew up without brothers or sisters, so we were used to being alone. We met in fourth grade. We've been inseparable ever since." Felix asked, "Do you live here, Les?" Les said, "For now, yes." Charles asked, "What happened to your parents?" Les froze. He felt like crying, but he refused to let the tears fall in front of people he had only met last night. He then looked at Jimmy. Jimmy said, "It's okay, Les. You don't have to talk about it." Les swallowed hard. "No, it's all right. If we're going to be performing together, I have to be able to open up to them." He sighed. "My mother died from cancer when I was just twelve years old. My father blamed me, but I couldn't control it. He never really approved of me, unless I did what he liked. He never tried to understand me. On rare occasions, he would cane me. I still have the scars to prove it." Charles said, "Why, Les, that's horrible." Felix nodded in agreement, looking sympathetic. Les said, "Now that I have this new band, I'll show him that he was wrong! I'll show him that I won't be a wave tossed in the ocean!" After a pause, he said, "Of course, this band needs a name." Felix said, "Maybe you should use your pain for inspiration." Les said, "Maybe you're right." Jimmy said, "That's a good idea." Les smiled and said, "I have the perfect name for our band."
