*1 week later...*
"Lala, are you ready for your bath?" I asked her as I rose up from the couch in my living room.
She had been reading a children's book full of illustrations quietly - another quirk, she preferred a book over a toy.
She looked up at me with a bright smile - I was the only one she seemed to open up to over the past week.
"Bath?" she inquired in her childish voice that always makes me smile.
"Yep, it's time to get clean!" I said, picking her up and taking her to the bathroom.
I ran the bath water and undressed her while she giggled.
Alana was great with me, and she's opened up a little to Charlie and Jacob. We're still working on everyone else . . .
Since I have school, I take her to a nearby daycare and then I pick her up after school and I normally go by Jake's or Emily's.
It's tough to be a foster 'mom,'- I couldn't even think of myself as one - I had to quit working at the Newton's so I could take better care of Alana, she seemed to need me full-time.
Charlie and just about everyone helps pay for everything . . .
I had just put on Alana's clothes when the phone rang.
I ran to it with Alana in my arms.
"Hello?" I answered, out of breath.
"Hey, Bells. Running with Lala again?" Jake asked, and I could tell he was holding back a laugh.
"Shut up, Jake," I said, rolling my eyes though he couldn't see. 'Lala' was Alana's nickname that we all sort of gave her.
"I'll take that as a yes. So I was wondering if I could come over and we could work on homework together."
"Hmm . . . well, I do have some catching up to do . . ."
"So is that a yes?" he asked eagerly and I smirked.
"Sure, sure." I said, which signified a yes.
"'Kay! Thanks Bells! I'll be over soon."
"'Kay, see you in a few."
"See you," he said, and then hung up.
Lala had been twirling my hair in different ways around her tiny fingers.
"Guess what Lala? Jake's coming over!" I told her, giving her a wide smile.
"Jake?" she asked me, again making me smile. She was always so excited to see Jacob, which, hell, I was too.
I waited and waited until, finally, Jake pulled up in his Rabbit.
"Hey!" Alana said brightly when he stepped in.
Jacob took her into his arms with a grin.
"Well hey to you too!" he chuckled and I smiled, he was always great with her.
Lala just giggled and Jake and I got busy on our homework.
It wasn't long till Charlie pulled up with some pizza.
"How're you kids doing?" Charlie asked.
"Charie!" Alana said, always leaving out the "l."
Charlie just laughed and shook his head.
After gorging ourselves on pizza and saying goodbye to Jacob, Alana and I got ready for bed.
She still slept with me - which I was content with. It was almost like she was holding me together - keeping me from falling apart.
I kissed her forehead tenderly, she was my little angel.
Sorry I didn't get this out sooner like I said, we had to run tests on the computer all night long! Things are gonna get exciting in the next chapter so plz comment and rate! ^_^
