Not Your Typical Country Girl Chapter Eight
I really did not want Abigail and Bryce spending so much money on me. Abigail was trying to convince me to get some black cowgirl boots. They were really expensive but she said I would get my wear out of them. I still wasn't sure so, she bought them any ways. She said that if I ended up not really liking them that she would wear them. I got this really cool truckers hat. It was black plaid on the front and then it had like a netting on the back of it. I had to admit I actually liked it.
"Hey mom, there's a bonfire tonight," Dustin said, "Samantha is going so I am too."
"Us too," Lance chimed in for the rest of them.
"So is Harmony," Abigail said.
"What," they all said shocked.
"I really do not have to go if they do not want me too," I said.
"Nonsense Harmony," she said, "you can go,"
"You look different," Dustin said.
"It's the hair, boys, the hair," Abigail said oddly, "dontcha like it?!"
"Why blond," Clay asked.
"It is my natural color," I shrugged as I sipped on some sweet tea.
"You're joking," Finn laughed.
"Finn," she scowled.
"I would actually agree with Finn," Lance said.
"Why, what is wrong with my blond hair," I asked a little worried.
"After seeing you with such dark hair," Clay said as he was interrupted by Dustin.
"We didn't think you had natural blond hair," Dustin finished.
"Girls and most guys in the south would kill to have your hair," Abigail said.
"Who is she riding to the party with," Dustin asked, "it can't be me because I picking up Samantha!"
"I have drop Lance and Finn off at some friends," Clay said, "but you are welcomed to ride with us if you want to go!"
"Oh cool, thank you," I said, "why do you guys not ride together?"
"Did I just here 'you guys'," Clay said surprised.
"Yes, but it was in her somewhat country accent," Lance said.
"Do you even have a country accent," Dustin asked curiously.
"I do; everyone has a country accent here," I stated.
"Let's here you most southern accent," Finn said excited.
"Umm, what should I say," I asked.
"Say anything," Abigail said smiling.
She was clearly loving this. Everyone getting along right was pretty nice.
"Hi, my name is Harmony Barrow, and I live in Alabama," I said in my countriest accent.
"Wow, where did that come from," Dustin asked shocked.
"I have a country accent," I stated, "I just don't use it!"
"Why on earth would you not use it," Abigail asked, "you got it, you flaunt it!"
The boys started laughing a little bit.
"Since you are getting to come early to the bonfire, make sure to pack you something to do," Clay said, "you might get bored!"
"Why," I asked confused.
"Me and some guys have to get the firewood for the bonfire," he said.
"Oh okay, I can help," I shrugged.
"Okay, but still you might want too," Lance said.
"Okay," I said, "well, I am going to get ready."
This was going to be so awkward. They clearly did not want me there. I did not fit it at all. This bonfire party thing was going to be a disaster for me. I was really nervous. I do not do well with new people or new things. Put those two things together and it would be bad!
It did not take me long to get ready. I decided to go with one of my outfits instead of something Abigail bought for me. I would need to be in my own clothes if people want to accept who I am.
I picked up my pencil pouch and my drawing book. There might be something pretty to draw tonight. And Clay said I might get bored so I was going to bring it. I was going to bring it anyways. Just incase some people decided to ignore me or if they made fun of me. I could just escape and draw. I kind of hoped that I could escape and draw; but than again it would be nice to have some friends.
I hopped in the backseat of Clay's truck. It was jacked up. It was silly looking to me but then again I know nothing about car or trucks.
"Are you excited about your first bonfire," Finn asked as he set next to me.
"I don't know; should I," I asked.
"Yeah, it will be a lot of fun," Lance said from the front seat.
"Okay boys and Harmony, buckle up and let's go," Clay said full of excitement.
Clay rolled down the windows and turned the music up once we turned off their long drive way. My hair was flying everywhere. It was really annoying. Clay saw me wrestling to tame and handed me a baseball hate from underneath his seat.
We had been in the car for fifteen minute when we pulled into another dirt road. We rode down I for a minute then came upon a big house with lots of land. Lance and Finn got out as two boys came out of the house. It was Tucker and some other boy.
"Harmony, you can come sit up front now," Clay yelled over the music. I kept my head looking at the ground. I don't know why but I really didn't want Tucker to see me.
I jumped in and then we were off to somewhere else.
We turned down a dirt road that was very bumpy. I had no idea where we were at. This was really odd. It was getting dusk outside too. I thought they were going to get firewood. Who knows?!
Clay backed his truck up to this giant black ring in an open field.
"I let the tailgate down so you can sit there while we get firewood," Clay said as he shut the truck off.
"Okay," I said meekly.
It was so quiet compared to the loudness of his truck. There was several other trucks here already.
"Harmony, what happens tonight, is secret," Clay stated, "you cannot tell anyone! Understand?!"
I nodded. What would possibly be going on that I would have to keep a secret?
I sat on the back of the truck and got out my colored pencils and drawing book. I guess my escape started now.
"Hey Clay, did you bring Isabelle here," I heard someone say.
"No, that s my new sister," Clay said sort of laughing.
I started drawing trying to get to my escape as quick as possible. This was terrifying for me. I hated this so much. Why did I have to come. I could have watched tv or gone to bed!
"Is she just going to sit there while we gather firewood," the fading voice said.
"Yeah," Clay's voice echoed from afar.
My sweet escape was here. It was quiet and peaceful.
I sat there and drawer trucks around a bonfire. What I imagined it to look like. I did not have to look up to see it. I just guessed with the colors and everything.
"Clay, who did you bring," a familiar voice said.
"Tucker, that is Harmony," Clay said.
"No it is not," Tucker said, "look at her; she has blond hair, Harmony doesn't!"
"Mom took her to get her hair bleached or something," Clay stated, "mom made her dye her hair back."
"Oh, well good thing it's not your girlfriend, she looks bored," Tucker said.
"She has been sitting like that since we got here," Clay stated.
"Has anyone talked to her," Tucker asked curiously.
"No, sadly not," Clay said.
"Oh okay, I guess I will," Tucker said, "might as well make her feel welcomed!"
"Ight, see ya around," Clay said.
"Hey Harmony," Tucker said as he came up to me.
I looked up and my neck was so sore.
"Hey, I did not know you were going to be here," I said.
"Yep, every high school student is here," he said.
"Cool," I said as I went back to drawing.
"May I look," he asked.
"At what," I asked as I gave him a puzzled look.
"At your drawings," he said as he laughed a little.
"Oh yeah, sorry," I said, "no one has ever asked to look!"
"Oh really," he asked as he flipped through the book, "I am sorry about the other day. Butting in on your business; I shouldn't have!"
"It is okay," I said.
"Are you having fun," he asked.
"No, not really," I said.
"Why not," he asked.
"I hate meeting new people," I said, "I thought church was bad but this has got to be worse. At least at church the people were friendly!"
"Yeah, we tend to have some clicks around here," he stated, "but nothing too bad!"
"Oh really," I said as I was cut short.
"Hey Tucker," some girl said as she interrupted me, "come dance with me!"
"Okay, I will see ya around," he said as the girl pulled him away.
"Bye to you too," I mutter.
I looked around and saw some girls pointing and laughing. It made me feel uncomfortable so, I decided to leave.
I pulled the black off the bed of the truck and went to a near by tree that was in the dark. This was disappointing. And those girls did not make it any better.
I really did not want Abigail and Bryce spending so much money on me. Abigail was trying to convince me to get some black cowgirl boots.
