It's Complicated Chapter Forty ThreeN2P
Last night we did not do much. We were all tired. So, we grabbed some dinner and then dropped Ella off at her apartment. Troy and I went on to his house. He showed me to my room and I laid on the bed. I was out in seconds.
This morning was a little weird. I got up and looked in Troy's bedroom but he was not there. So I made my way down stairs and he was not there. Troy's mother, Mrs. Harvey, was in the kitchen.
"Where is Troy," I asked.
"He is at class. Did he not tell you," she asked, "he said he did."
"I probably did not hear him," I said, "when will they be back?!"
"It should be soon. Probably forty-five minutes," Mrs. Harvey said.
"Okay, thank you," I said smiling.
"Do you want something to eat," she asked.
"No thank you," I said.
I went back to my room to check my phone. No missed calls. But I could call Jasper and see what he is up to.
I dialed his number but he never picked. So I left his a message to call me back.
I then jumped in the shower and got ready. It is no telling what Troy, Ella, and I could be doing. Hopefully, I could go to class with them tonight. I really liked to watch them dance together.
I went back down stairs and sat in the living room while I waited on Troy and Ella. My phone started buzzing and I did not recognize the number.
"Hello," I signed when I pick it up.
"Hey Lila, it is Esme," she signed back on video chat.
"Hey, what's up," I asked signing.
"Not much, just the usual," she signed smiling.
"Oh cool, I miss you all," I signed.
"We miss you too! What have you been up to," Esme asked.
"Not much, I went to dance class with Ella and Troy last night. The dance teacher knew sign language! I could not believe it," I signed.
"That is great! We were kind of worrying about you. Jasper told us what happened on the plane," she signed.
"Oh that, that is no big deal," I signed, "but I have to go! Troy is back! Bye, love you all!"
"Okay, bye! We love you too," Esme signed.
"Hey Lila, Ella is still in class and I need you to help me with something," Troy said.
"Okay cool! What is it?!" I asked curiously.
"I want you to help me pick out an engagement ring for Ella," he said smiling from ear to ear.
"Sounds great," I said excited, "I will be honored to help with something like that!" I said.
"Great, let's go," he said, "have you had anything to eat yet?"
"No, I have not," I said.
"Okay, we can grab a bite to eat too," Troy stated.
"So where is Ella," I asked.
"She is in her acting class," he said.
"An acting class for what," I asked confused, "she is a dancer!"
"Ella takes acting class to help her with dancing. Dancers really act out a song or scene from a play," he said.
"Oh okay," I said.
We climbed into his truck and we were on our way. I was so happy to be able to be a part of this. It was really nice for Troy to include me.
Troy picked out a really pretty ring for Ella and then it was off to lunch. I was pretty hungry by the time we got to eat.
When I went to order I had to repeate myself at least 5 times before I finally typed it out on my phone and show it the cashier.
"What to drink," he asked.
"Water," I said.
He looked over at Troy and looked confused. So, once again I typed on my phone what I wanted. I paid and stood there while I waited on my order. I did not want to sit down and not be able to hear them call my order out.
I sat down with Troy and we started eating. It was really good.
"Does that happen a lot," he asked.
"It probably will in the future," I said as I looked up from my food.
He had a puzzled look on his face so, I repeated myself. Thankfully he understood me.
"Last Night Mrs. Santos asked if you had a sign name; what is that," he asked.
"It's sign for you name so you do not have to spell it out every time," I said.
"Oh cool, what is yours," he asked interested.
"It is "L" as you sign smile," I said as I showed him, "Jasper said I am always smiling so he gave it to me."
"That is cool! Sounds like someone likes you," Troy said smiling.
" I don't think so," I said, "we are really good friends though!"
"Well, do you like Jasper," he asked.
"I don't know," I shrugged, "I never though about it!"
"Sure you haven't," he teased, "how long have you know sign language?"
"I haven't! Umm, not long," I said, "I am not fluent yet!"
"Oh okay, is it hard?" Troy asked.
"Very! But then again, just talking can be hard. As you saw a few minutes ago," I said.
"Yeah, any language is hard," he said.
We finished our lunch and went back to the house. Troy hid the ring as I stalled Ella in the living room.
Soon it was time to leave for dance class and I was excited! I sort of wanted to dance myself. But I was too embarrassed to ask. I mean who wants to teach a deaf kid to dance to music they can barley hear?!
My phone started buzzing and it was Jasper. He had finally called me back.
"Jasper," I signed, "what took so long to call me back?"
"Sorry, I slept in today," he signed.
"Oh okay," I said.
"What have you been up to," he asked.
"Troy wanted me to help him pick out an engagement ring for Ella," I signed, "and now I am going to class with them!"
"Troy wanted you to do what," he asked confused.
"Pick out an engagement ring for Ella," I signed again.
"Oh, gotcha! So what are you up to now," he asked signing.
"I am on my way to dance class with them! Did Esme tell you anything," I asked.
"No, I just now saw the missed call," I signed laughing.
I looked behind him and could tell he was still in his bed.
"Oh! The dance teacher knows sign language," I signed happily.
"Really? How," he signed curiously.
"She said her parents were deaf," I signed.
I carefully got out of the car as I talked to Jasper on the phone.
"Oh okay," he signed as he yawned.
"Why did you sleep in so late," I signed.
"I have nothing else to do," he signed, "it is boring here!"
"I am sorry! You should fly out here! I could use a deaf friend," I signed as I walked into Gloria's dance room.
"Why what happened," he signed worried.
"When I went to order my food at the fast food place, the guy could not understand me one bit! I had to type everything out for him," I signed, "it was so stupid! I hate this!"
"Awe, I am so sorry, Lila! Maybe it will get better," Jasper signed.
"I can only hope," I signed.
"Awe, Lila," he signed.
"I have to go," I signed, "the dance teacher does not like phones in the class!"
"Then go outside so we can talk," he signed.
"I don't know if I could come back in, but okay," I signed.
"How are your hearing aids working," Jasper signed.
"Fine, I really do not like having them out at night when no one knows how to sign," I signed.
"Yeah, that can be weird," he signed, "just remember to turn them whenever you take them out!"
"They can turn off," I signed surprised.
"Yes," he signed laughing.
"I had no idea," I signed, "did dad give you any extra batteries?"
"Not that I know of," I signed.
"Oh okay, maybe they will not go dead," Jasper signed.
"I hate when people stare at me," I signed, "it is so rude!"
"Yep, that gets annoying too," Jasper signed.
"Yeah. I have a random question," I signed, "can deaf people dance?"
"I guess so! What made you think that they couldn't," he asked signing.
"They fact that they can't hear the music or when you get to close to a speaker it makes a high pitch noise," I signed.
"Ahh someone found that out the hard way," Jasper signed laughing.
"Yeah I did! I felt bad for the hearing kids too. They were covering their ears," I signed.
"They are fine," Jasper signed as he rolled his eyes.
"I know they are! They are still dancing," I signed, "Ella's dancing is so pretty!"
"You are wanting to dance aren't you," he signed as I looked surprised that he had guessed.
"Yeah," I signed slightly embarrassed.
"Why don't you ask Troy and Ella about it," Jasper signed.
"Who wants to teach a deaf kid who has never danced in her life," I asked signing.
"Someone might want to," Jasper signed.
"But there is no one at home to teach me," I signed, "what are we going to do when we get out of college? I sure cannot dance like Ella!"
"Yes you can! Stop think about that," he signed, "ask that dancer teacher who knows how to sign."
"I might," I signed.
"That is an I won't from you," he signed.
"So what," I signed.
"Okay, never mind. But, I should go," Jasper signed, "bye!"
"Bye Jasper," I signed.
I went back into the dance room and sat down by the speaker. I watched the class and kept wondering if I could ever dance like that.
