Ken Penders, that’s who everyone is blaming. At this point, I don’t even know what’s going on with his actions exactly. I’ve heard that he wants all his characters taken out, I heard he wanted a sonic movie (which would be cool since the fan film… oy…), I heard he dropped the case, I heard nothing happened with that. I don’t know what to think about that anymore, because I keep hearing SO many rumors, opinions, and facts, that my mind is scrambled from it all.
So for this I’ll talk about what’s happening in the comics, and not mainly what Penders has done. The changes I can remember off the top of my head is that…
~The following characters will be removed: Julie-su, (most other echidnas), Elias Acorn, Geoffery St. John, Hershey the Cat, and so many more. But from recent information of a comic where Tails doesn’t seem to remember Sally…
~Sally being removed…
~Nicole gets a redesign, and from what I remember it’s a completely new look, new animal, outfit, etc.
~It will be a reboot.
So my issues with this. Well first off, there is no need for a reboot. When I heard about Worlds Collide (Sonic meets Megaman) I thought it was a mediocre idea, but I didn’t really mind it, and the series itself was fine, and interesting enough, but it’s what starts the reboot, which against isn’t needed. They didn’t run out of ideas. We were still in the middle of the Ixis Naugus throne-saga (as I call it), and while it made me very upset, it was because I was emotionally involved, not because I thought it was a bad idea, in fact it was a good idea, and it worked.
When the reboot comes (if it comes), then we get character arcs all over again, we get introductions all over again, and we get villains all over again. Not to mention that retcons all previous comics, so say good bye to those.
I suppose the reason I might be coming off as sloppy here is because most of this is emotional. I don’t want a reboot, and I’m tired of seeing these kiddy comics. NO, I’m not saying they have to be mature, no I’m not saying they have to be super dark, but I swear if I see one more “BRO-FIST” reference…
Readers, you remember the Enerjak Saga? Or when Eggman wiped out Knothole? The Moebius Invasion, The Iron Dominion, Sonic’s space trip, The Xorda Saga? Compare those to this, because so far it doesn’t feel the same.
For me the comics seemed different (In a bad way) around when Team Freedom and Team Fighters started. Why?
~Thrash is made a villain out of nowhere and gives an explanation that just pops out of nowhere.
~The story DRAAAAAAGS, with the plot being “Eggman attacks, Heroes chase, Eggman attacks town, heroes have to stop and save town, Eggman escapes, Heroes save town and chase Eggman” over and over. To its credit however, the echidna parts added some interest into the mix, but then THRASH ended that. And Naugus’s part was interesting, but that’s been on hold for more than ten issues.
~THE ECHIDNAS ARE TAKEN OUT OF THE PLOT. I don’t know who wasn’t in the thing where Thrash took em, but I’m assuming it’s two. Knuckles, and some other random person.
But even then it was still the same comic, and with the same characters. I know Sally was roboticized, and that made me upset, but I thought she’d get back to normal, which she probably will.
But the actual plummeting has yet to happen. But it’s about to I think. See the comics haven’t gotten to the point where they’ve done any of these changes aside from the echidnas, but once they do, oh boy that will be… SO FUN… oy.
I remember in the Iron Dominion Saga, when Eggman had lost it. That was awesome. He was broken, and there was the feel that things would only get worse when he came back. And when he did, it was amazing as well (his return to sanity that is). And his huge return was… underwhelming in my opinion, but still good. The genesis wave worked, it was a good plot idea, but then they used it again SO CLOSE AFTER THE FIRST TIME, and I just went “LAZY!”
No, I don’t know what they could have done, but that’s not my fault. I don’t write the comics. They could have avoided that. It’s nearing the point where I think it would have been better if they had just gone with Eggman getting beaten in the first wave, and that be the end of the series; NEARING.
I’ll just say what I want to have happen right here, so it’s clear. I won’t say my opinion is right because TONS of people will disagree, I’m just stating what I would have liked to have happen.
1. After second Genesis wave, the worlds are FINE/or/are only changed for maybe five issues, and slowly go back to normal.
2. Naugus’s story is taken care of in the main comics, while Knuckles’s is taken care of in the Universe comics.
3. After Naugus is eventually beaten, there’s something to fully fix the Nicole situation; I know she was let back into the council, but maybe a gathering to talk about how everyone was wrong for attacking her, and some sort of reward or something?
4. Eggman does something that replaces Fiest with himself (because Fiest keeps getting thrown to the side and it erks me. No I’m not fond of the character, but he has potential. HE’S POWERED BY MILLIONS OF CHAOS EMERALDS!), and we FINALLY have a Hyper Sonic Vs. Eggman fight.
5. Eggman takes his final fall… (WHICH IS TALKED ABOUT IN THE FUTURE COMICS… speaking of which)
6. …which makes way for the continuity of the Future Comics.
7. We go into the world going into Chaos, Shadow’s tyranny, Sonic’s disappearance, then his return. (I’m not a fan of Evil Shadow at ALL, so that part about Shadow could be left out.)
8. FINALLY MARRYING SALLY!
9. Showing the kids, retrospect of the many years, and villains, and friends, and Eggman
10. THE END
SERIES FINALE, UPLIFTING, HEART-WARMING, SUMS-UP-EVERYTHING-INSTEAD-OF-WRECKING-PREVIOUS-PLOTS, SATISFYING.
“But I don’t find that satisfying.” If you don’t like that that’s fine. What would YOU like to have happen in the comics? I’m not close-minded about this, feel free to share. You’re idea has every right to be as good as mine is, even if I disagree with it.
I understand that Archie is going through issues with characters, and fan-service, and Penders. And I wish I could fix that. I won’t blame them if they’re trying to fix things, and it’s hard for them. And I don’t blame Penders if he isn’t ruining everything like I’ve heard (though I doubt that’s the case)
This is the sonic comic; BEYOND the games, and more in depth. It’s separate for a reason, it can go darker without being Shadow the Hedgehog, and it can be deep without turning into Sonic 06. Let’s not ruin it.
