Sushi dishes are plates of ingredients of sushi which try to preserve the traditional style of serving sushi in the restaurants, at home, or at dinner parties. There are many sources for sushi dishes such as stores which specialize in Asian house utensils and food establishments suppliers.

Traditional practices show that sushi dishes are flat so that the sushi can be placed evenly on the dish. Some presentations are square and rectangular in form to create an artistic presentation of square sushi rolls. The sides of the dish may bend upward or may be flat, or the plate may have feet. Sushi dishes may normally include sushi plates for serving the sushi with the condiment in dishes for shoyu, wasabi, vegetables, and other ingredients commonly served. These sushi dishes maybe bought with some accessories in a sushi set.

However, there are some conventional limitations on the design of sushi dishes. Japanese places high regard on aesthetics and cultural traditions, and sushi is one of them. Sushi dishes should harmonize with the season they are served in and should be designed to balance the sushi that is being served. The host can have different options in color, patterns, and finish which are significant in conventional presentation of sushi. As an example, fall dishes or plates should not be used to serve sushi during spring time.

Stoneware, porcelain, and other earthy wares are the usual option as sushi dishes. They can be made in a traditional style or by a contemporary who want dishes with a more modern presentation. Sushi dishes can be in the form of wooden dishes which can be painted or lacquered or decorated, with plastic dishes. These plastic plates may be used in restaurants to avoid breakages.

One can use ordinary dishes to serve sushi especially if they come in a plain design that allows clear and natural artistic presentation of sushi. Sushi dishes can also be utilized to serve other foods, particularly the Asian-inspired foods. For chefs who opt for artistic dishware, novelty sushi dishes with colorful designs and themes can be obtained with matching condiment chopsticks and bowls.

A sample of sushi presentation on sushi dishes include sushi rice on toasted nori sheets and maybe piled on square dish. Then on another sushi dish are choices of vegetables, fish, and sushi omelette which will greatly match sushi rice. The sushi omelette can be prepared ahead and chilled until it ready to serve.

Try this sushi omelette recipe:

Prepare the following ingredients:     7 large eggs, 1 tbsp of mirin (Japanese cooking wine),
1 tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tsp of vegetable oil

•    Whisk eggs, soy sauce, and mirin in a bowl until they are well mixed. Heat the oil in an 8 inch-square metal non-stick pan on medium heat. You can use heat-proof tongs to hold the pan.
•    Pour a one-half part of the egg mixture into the pan and allow the edges of the egg mixture to set in. Fold the egg from top third and bottom third of the omelette into the center of the pan using a spatula. The outcome will be a three-layer omelette in the center of the pan. Using spatula, press the omelette gently.
•    Pour the remainder of egg mixture and repeat the procedure. You will have a small layered loaf omelette in the middle of the pan. Then, remove the omelette from heat.
•    Place the omelette to a chopping board and allow it to cool for at least five minutes. Trim the uneven edges off and slice the omelette for about 30 thin slices.
