Sadie woke up in the middle of the night, screaming, just as she had for the past six years. She tried to remember the last time she'd had a pleasant dream. But she couldn't. It had been too long. Sadie threw back the covers and stepped from her bed. Her clothes clung to her body and a few strands of her long auburn hair stuck to the hollows of her temples with sweat. Her feet seemed to stick to the floor as she made her way across her room over to her desk. After sitting down and turning on her desk lamp, Sadie opened one of the drawers and pulled out a diary. She flipped to the next blank page and grabbed a pencil. With a deep breath she wrote the date and time at the top of the page. Then, she began writing about her dream.

I was trapped in a room made of stone and metal. It smelt of blood, mold, decay, and something else I couldn't quite put a name to. The smell seemed to clog the air, almost like fog. I could hardly breathe. There was no light at all. I was in total darkness. I could hear the sound of dripping water.
I felt my way along the wall and my hand bumped into something. It was cold and hard. I slowly reached out and touched it with the tips of my fingers, feeling it to see if I could identify it. The curves were so similar. I could remember that feeling from my other dreams, but this time it was wet. When I drew my hand back my fingers were wet and cold. Suddenly, the room flooded with light. I turned my back to it, my eyes adjusting to the bright light. Finally the light dimmed and when I turned back there was a single candle blazing on a small table. I turned to face the wall again and there hung a skeleton, covered in blood. I jumped back with a yelp and looked at my hand. I wiped the blood off on my pant leg and looked around for a way out.
Soft laugher started to fill the room. It was quiet at first, but started to grow louder and more insane. I pounded on the walls, praying for a way out. Something cold started pooling up at my feet. I looked down; the room was filling with blood. I clawed at the walls, wishing, hoping for a way out. I screamed and screamed but there was nothing that could be done for me. The blood rose higher and higher until I was up to my neck in it I took in one last breath as my head went under the flood of blood.
