Buffy:
A.) Angel
B.) Buffy
C.) Spike
True Blood:
A.) Bill
B.) Sookie
C.) Eric
The Vampire Diaries:
A.) Stefan
B.) Elena
C.) Damon

God compare elena and Sookie with buffy is a crime . BUffy one of the best shows out there . But Yes . But I still thinking That Buffy , Angel , and Spike are by far more interesting characters

Yah while the characters are different the overall theme is the same. I think each step down the dynamics between the characters gets watered down. That is why in my examples I listed Buffy first. I think that Joss did it the best.
