The Big Short, directed by Adam McKay has received 5 Oscar nominations this year including one for the Best Picture. It is based on the novel 'The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine' by Michael Lewis which is based on the deep financial crisis caused by the housing market and credit bubble in the USA.

Synopsis:
In 2008, a group of four men with deep insight into the Wall Street scenario predict the collapse of several huge banks and housing market owing to their unethical and fraudulent practices. The four men bet on the upcoming disaster and manage to make a fortune while at the same time exposing several corrupt financial institutions that lead to this meltdown.

Cast and Crew:
The film stars Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and Karen Gillan among others. It has been co-written by Adam McKay and Charles Randolph.

Production:
The rights to the film were bought in 2013 and the screenplay was written in 2014. Screenwriter Charles Randolph said that finding the right tone for the film was the most challenging task for the writers. They wanted it to be funnier than the average comedy, but not too satirical either.
In 2015, the casting was done and the shooting began in the next few months. The film was shot in New York City.
