Chocolate's words rang in Sunlight's ears. "Every power comes with a price. This was her price, to have her power fail when she needed it most. Soon we will have to pay as well." For the last few days, all her nightmares and thoughts had been filled with those words and Shadow's death. One question kept repeating itself over and over again. What would her price be? She walked over to where Chocolate and Flamewind were sitting. "Hello, Sunlight," Chocolate mewed as she reached them. "We've been talking. We think that we ought to talk to the carver again." Sunlight shivered as she thought of the creepy old cat who carved the pictures of all the Race cats into soft stone and dyed them with vivid colors. He had first told them of their powers, and had warned them of what would happen. "I'm going to go hunting for herbs," she said, "We might need them."
As she walked through the forest, searching for the plants she needed, she heard a voice. It seemed to be saying, "Prices are to be paid, past turns to future, all who are lost will return." "What is that supposed to mean?" she wondered, but inside she felt a sense of dread. Somehow she knew that she would not return from this trip." As she reached a small stream, she heard the voice again. This time it seemed to be laughing at her, "Run as far as you can, you cannot escape." There was danger in the air. She looked down and saw her body fading away. She let out a terrified screech as she vanished completely. She tried to run, but found that she couldn't move. She yowled again, but no noise came out of her mouth. She was going to be stuck there forever! She tried to run again, and unbearable pain seized her. As shadows clouded her vision, she remembered what the mysterious voice had said, "All who are lost will return" And Sunlight was swept into darkness.
