A boy sits at a table covered with junk and electrical equipment and his father watches him as the boy finishes his pet project a small lead cube with the appearance of a sphere coming out of the cube.
“Dad can I test it now?”
“It's not going to do anything son, but I am sure you will get an A plus for Imagination and a medal for all the effort you put in.”
The boy then attaches a 12 v battery to a copper electrode at the top and one at the bottom.
There is a spark, and as the boy holds and examines his gizmo and he says.
“No sound, no light, nothing… Dad” the boy looks up, and his father laughs.
“Told you, the laws of entropy and thermodynamics are well known, Good Try son.” he pats his son on the head and ruffles his long jet black hair.
The boy removes the electrodes and holds the box to his ear.
“Still nothing.”
“Never mind son.”
The boy drops the cube to drop on the table and it disappears with a sonic boom.
Narrator.
“The experiment you have just witnessed was invented by a small boy with a great mind, he lives in a world far away from the Twilight Zone, but the Cube he built has just entered that zone.
And if it ever returns it will most certainly bring something back with it. Something more than the Imagination of a young boy, something from the Twilight Zone.”
Scene 1:
Breakfast.
TV news “Today Scientists are confused why the moon has turned a strange red colour and seems to have a rainbow halo around it. Astronomers believe that a asteroid or comet has hit the dark side and dust and gas has been ejected causing the strange optical effects observed by scientists.”
The parents are ignoring the TV but the child is entranced as his parents argue selfishly about what to do about his invention.
Mother :”You could make million If you can find out what it does and how to control it?”
Father : “But I can't figure out why it even worked or why it worked.”
Mother : “We could become famous, the Nobel prize.”
Father : “Or get a visit from the government and never be seen again, I DONT KNOW.”
Mother : “We could buy so much, give so much if we find out!”
Father : “It must have created a black hole, or a worm hole and fell into it, or maybe it travelled to a different world, universe even.”
Boy (Pointing at the TV):”Or the moon?”
Father (Ignoring boy):”Or straight into the centre of the earth.”
Mother (Looking at the TV images): “It could kill us ALL.”
Scene 2:
Night Time:
The boy is looking at the moon with a telescope.
(The moon seems to be giving off a rainbow glow.)
Boy :”I know where it is, It's...”
Dad :”People are going crazy on the TV, farmers saying their animals are dying, planes are disappearing, people are killing each other and the moon they say is going to hit the earth.”
Boy : “Mam, wont let me watch.”
Dad : “We are going to have to tell someone son, the scientists may be able to do something.”
Boy: “Will we go to Jail?”
Dad(Laughing): “For a very long time, but it will be one hell of a Jail!”
Boy:”If people are going crazy we would be better off, in some kind of protection.”
Dad:”Maybe?”
Mother (Screaming):”Joseph, You have to see this.”
TV: “My god, people all over the world are giving reports that, children yes children are dropping dead, nobody knows why, doctor say it is the same as all the animals, birds , dogs, cats, and now children. My God what the hell is happening, and the moon seems to be Accelerating toward the earth. It seems people and animals are dying of abject terror, fear, or are they just giving up on life itself.
Mom (Screaming as she looks into the mirror above the TV):(Drops down dead).
Scene 3:
Father and boy are in a car trying to get to a government building, bodies line the streets and a large rainbow moon fills the sky.
Dad: “I can't do this son, take your design and you will have to walk the rest of the way on your own.”
Boy:”Dad, I know where it is, I calculated it, its clear to me. DAD!”
The Father falls asleep at the wheel, the car crashes and the boys father has gone.
Scene 4:
Outside the massive gates are dead guards and dead people, and the moon fills the sky.
The gates are broken open, and inside are dead tanks, dead helicopters and a dead building.
The grass on the lawn of the large government building is dry wilted straw and dust. And the boy walks in and finds his way around and the empty building is bright and as he moves through, it gets brighter and brighter.
Voice:”Hello Son”
Boy:”Dad?”
Voice: “Look up son.”
Boy looks up and sees the moon turning inside out around him and the voice say's
“Very Good, you know were you are don't you.”
Boy: “At the beginning?”
Voice:”Good. Now try to build the machine better this time.”
