Jiro Horikoshi: The protagonist of the film. Jiro is based on a person of the same name. He is a optimistic, hardworking young man who loves airplanes. He becomes a very successful plane designer. Jiro is so focused on planes that he tends to be unaware of what's going on around him.

Naoko Satomi: The deuteragonist of the film. Naoko is a kind hearted painter. She met Jiro on a train. Several years later the two see each other again and develop a strong relationship.

Giovanni Caproni: Jiro's idol. Mr. Caproni is a famous plane designer. He appeared in Jiro's fantasies giving him advice.

Honjo: Honjo is Jiro's best friend. Like Jiro, Honjo is a plane designer. Unlike Jiro, Honjo has a more grumpy and negative attitude. Despite that he and Jiro have a close friendship.

Mr. Kurokawa: Jiro and Honjo's uptight boss. Mr. Kuorkawa is a grumpy guy.

Mr. Hattori: Mr. Kurokawa's boss. Mr. Hattori is more calm and mature than Mr. Kurokawa.

Mr. Satomi: Naoko's dad. The owner of a hotel who is nervous about Jiro and Naoko's relationship.

Mr. Castorp: A mysterious German guy who becomes friends with Jiro. The main antagonist of the film.

Mrs. Kurokawa: Mr. Kurokawa's wife. She is friendlier than her husband.

Kayo Horikosshi: Jiro's sister. She trains to be a doctor at a medical school.

Kinu: A adult that was with Naoko on the train. One of her legs got hurt so Jiro tried to help her get home.
