Grayflower ran past Rockfall. She ran past the Dead Tree. Finally she paused at the river that divided Dusk Clan and Night Clan. He likes Silvertail, not you. She told herself. Grayflower hung her head and stared at some minnows swimming in the river. "What are you doing so close to our border?" screeched a voice. Grayflower's head shot up. It was Ratnose. He had two other cats with him. The black tom glared angrily across the river at Grayflower and she tensed. "I'm sitting." she meowed impatiently. "Do you have to sit so close to Night Clan's border?" piped a small brown tom. "We don't want Dusk Clan stink drifting over here!" The other gray she-cat flicked her tail in annoyance. "Brokenpaw, shut up." Brokenpaw growled but Ratnose hissed, "Get away Dusk Clan dirt." Grayflower hissed and narrowed her eyes. "I'm not on your territory." Brokenpaw scoffed, "Yeah, not yet." Grayflower turned to leave. "Yeah! Bye Dusk Clan scum!" spat Ratnose. She raced back further into Dusk Clan's territory. That was stupid.

"All cats who are able to hunt gather below Cliffedge!" yowled Splashstar. Immediately, cats began to pour into the clearing. Rainwhisker jumped up. This must be an apprentice ceremony for Smokekit and Honeykit. "Today, we are welcoming two kits into the apprentice den." she continues proudly. Rainwhisker looks to where Smokekit and Honeykit are sitting. Smokekit, a dark brown tom with gray eyes, is flicking Honeykit, a honey colored she-cat with green eyes, with her tail. He stifles a purr. They are best friends obviously. "Silvertail." calls Splashstar. The she-cat steps forward. "You will mentor Honeykit. I hope you pass your patience and hunting skills onto her." Silvertail dips her head and tilts her head and Honeykit now brushes noses with her. "Rainwhisker." He clumsily stepped forward. "You are our best warrior and are extremely stoical. I know you'll pass these traits onto Smokekit." Rainwhisker nods and brushes noses with Smokekit. "Then by the power of Star Clan, I proclaim these kits apprentices. Smokepaw and Honeypaw!"
The Clan yowls out their names. Smokepaw jumps up and down. "Do we get to see Dusk Clan territory?" he asks excitedly. "Can Honeypaw come?" Rainwhisker looks over to Silvertail who is walking over towards him with Honeypaw following her. "Do you want to show them the territory together?" she meowed. "Sure." Rainwhisker replied, looking away slightly. "Let's go." The two warriors lead the apprentices out of camp.
"This is Dead Tree." Silvertail meows. "This is one of the four corners of Dusk Clan territory." Smokepaw nodded in interest, but Honeypaw was staring downhill. "Whose that cat?" she mewed. Rainwhisker whipped his head around. "It's Grayflower." he answered. "Go see her." Silvertail mewed slowly. Rainwhisker stared at the silver she-cat. She wasn't making eye contact with him. "Watch Smokepaw." And with that he took off.

Grayflower heard an approaching cat. She ran as fast as she could. She didn't want to be near anyone. Having Rainwhisker love Silvertail was too much for her. Grayflower had loved him even before he fell for Honeyfeather. "Grayflower stop!" She froze. It was Rainwhisker's voice. "Rainwhisker?" she mewed quietly. The dark gray tom exploded from the ferns. "What are you doing out here?" he meowed softly, approaching her. She flinched. "I'm being alone." Rainwhisker stared at her. "Look, you never gave me a chance to say anything. Why do you have rejection locked in your brain?" Grayflower stops. She looks into those crazy blue eyes that made her fall for him in the first place. "So you..." she trails, her voice a whisper. Rainwhisker's eyes widen and he steps back. Grayflower narrows her eyes again and looks away. "I-I don't know. I feel...confused." Rainwhisker admits. She turns away from him. "Go. Go and just leave me." she spits. He flinches. "Fine. I'll go. But just remember, you're digging your own spot in Star Clan." He turned and ran.
Grayflower stared after him. Have I lost any chance I had with him forever?
