So a couple days ago, snakeandprincess on tumblr posted a little thing about how Kandrakar handled the Nerissa situation. She was nice enough to let me quote her post to type this article.

One of the huge points bought up is that there was no mention of how Cassidy's death and Nerissa's imprisonment were handled back on Earth. The W.i.t.c.h. girls had their astral drops to cover for them at school, and home, and such. But the drops are only temporary, since the girls eventually return home. But what about Cassidy and Nerissa; they'd never be going home. I’ve put some thought into the whole disappearance thing. I would imagine that the two ladies had family and friends back on Earth. Did the two of them just become missing person cases turned cold? Are there urban legends surrounding their disappearances back on Earth because they couldn’t be explained. Did Kadrakar send out–as snake called it–long term astral drops? "I think they would have done one of two things: (a) classic Kandrakar avoidance. Cassidy and Nerrisa who? I guess they just ran away haha teens these days; (b) create “long-term” astral drops so no one notices anything, except our dear guardians who get to see copies of their dead/doomed friends every day." I wouldn't be surprised if they did just ignore it, I mean it's not their problem is it? The regular humans will never figure out where their loved ones went right lol? And Nerissa and Cassidy had to have had loved ones, family. At the very least they had parents who would have been worried about them. And even if they did send long term astral drops, that’s kind of messed up espically when you factor in the awareness of Yan-Lin, Kadma, and Halinor. They literally see what may as well be walking corpses.

And then there was Nerissa’s age when she became a killer. That’s actually something I didn’t think of until I read snakeandprincess' post. I always thought she’d have been in her later 20′s, but now that it was mentioned, it’s very possible that she could have been a teen. In which case I definitely think she needed help not imprisonment. Instead of leaving her there with her rage to seethe, sealed up in a mini-coffin thing, they could have actually took her somewhere to rehabilitate her. To help her get back to who she used to be. But honestly, I don't think they really cared. Especially since it didn’t seem like there was any intervention at all/any prevention attempts at all. In fact I think it was canon that they were just hoping Nerissa'd sort herself out. Nerissa herself mentions in the books that they hoped their love or something like that would reform her. It’s like, no! Actually do something. They noticed that she was becoming corrupt yet, aside from taking the heart away from her (which only made shit worse), the Oracle did nothing to prevent it. I know I joked about this:

But it’s true. They very well could have helped Nerissa. Could have saved she and Cassidy both. But they didn’t step up. They didn't even try to step up as far as we've seen. And I'm talking strictly based on the comics.

Another good point snake made was that, "Maybe Nerrisa’s corruption started as a disagreement with how Kandrakar works. Its not like guardians don’t abuse their powers when they believe they can right a wrong." Based on the above I wouldn't say that that's far fetched at all. On the wiki page it’s mentioned that Nerissa started getting corrupt because of one of the villains she faced. So it's possible that she may have started abusing her powers to try to correct the corruption present in Kandrakar itself. And in wanting to un-corrupt Kandrakar, she corrupted herself. Similarly, also pointed out by snake, Nerissa seemed to know a lot about and be disgusted by Kandrakar's prison. If I remember right (and its been a while since I've read the comics) Nerissa even called the Kandrakar congress hypocritical for it. I believe she described it as a place where they hid all of their darkness; the people that they didn't want the world to see. It was implied that Kandrakar has it's impurities and tries to cover it up with that prison. At least Nerissa is upfront about her evil. Whereas Kandrakar has this 'holier than thou' attitude that can only be backed up to a certain degree. And in the case of Nerissa I don't think that they could back their attitude up at all.

And then there's another point snakeandprincess brought up and it's almost as disturbing as the whole Earth situation; "Perhaps Nerissa’s punishment was played off as being merciful or whatever, but I used to think it was more to make her an example." Again, I never really thought about it that way. But now that it's been mentioned that could very well be true. What's more is that Nerissa (once again comics) out right mocks their 'mercy'. If I remember correctly she thought that death was more merciful. I mean let's be honest, she was doomed to be spend an eternity in a tight little box on a mountain. Sure there was a chance of escape, but gosh damn that chance was so slim it may as well not have been there at all. Basically she was there alive (by some magic) without food or drink or any way to take care of her body; her hair was described as the color and consistency of filthy straw. Her teeth were yellowed and cracking. Basically she wasn't even able to care for herself. And she was squeezed into a box with nothing but her anger and resentment for God knows how long. No wonder she only dwelled on vengeance, her punishment was far from merciful, it was actually pretty cruel when you think about it. If the Oracle was shooting for mercy than he missed big time--death would have been more merciful than an eternity of loneliness and slowly rotting away.

Long story short, there's definitely a second side to the hot mess that is Kadrakar. The place isn't that grand ol' beacon of light that it claims to be. Nerissa's situation was just handled all wrong. On all levels. It didn't even do justice to Cassidy, and she was on their side.

So I know for a fact that most people hate Nerissa a lot. However I think she's a really freaking awesome villain and a really cool character.

I'll start with the silly reason first. I know pretty much the entire fandom disagrees but I think Nerissa is the prettiest character in the series. I love her hair so much, the long dark curls, beautiful. And her eyes are fabulous too, a great shade of blue, great shape, suiting to her character. I also like how they drew her mouth in the comics if that matters. And then her dress is also pretty great I love how it's a pinkish color--like she's evil...
