Chapter Twenty Two

“ I cant believe it. You’re in despicable!” Glory hissed and wished she wasn’t as weak as she was. She would like nothing better than to wipe that smug expression off Joel’s face herself.
“ You have to admit it was a good ruse.” Joel grinned arrogantly and lowered himself into one of the chairs. Glory didn’t miss how Damien watched him warily.
“ It wasn’t a good ruse! It was horrible! The Montez’s trusted you! And in return, you’ve betrayed them.” Glory spat, struggling to rise. She just let go of her control as a force tugged at her mind, knowing Damien was taking over. She stood as if she was as strong as she usually was, and stalked over to where Joel was sitting. She jabbed a finger into his chest, satisfaction welling up in her when Joel flinched and then looked surprised. Damien was very good at controlling her body. Joel’s hand flew through the air and clamped on her wrist.
“ Ow.” She complained and tried to yank away.
“ You better be careful when you touch me.” Joel’s eyes glittered at her dangerously.
“ And why is that?” Glory almost whispered.
He just stared at her, refusing to answer. She stared back, almost helpless to look away.
Damien pulling gently at her mind allowed her to turn away, and come back to him. His hand brushed down her arm softly as he helped her lay back down gracefully.
Joel started laughing. “ I see what’s happening!”
Glory looked over at him weakly. Having Damien not in her head was exhausting.
“ What?” She murmured, confused.
Joel was up, blurring as he moved to stand over Damien.
“ He’s in love with you.” He chuckled again and shoved an accusing finger at Damien.
“ I am not.” Damien hissed.
“ Oh but you are. You’ve never had a problem with people freezing to death before.” Joel shook his head in disbelief.
“ I cant believe this.” He howled with laughter again. “Wait until Nicolas hears about this!”
Damien was up, shoving Joel back away from the couch in order to get him away from Glory.
“ You’re not going to tell him.” Damien ordered.
Glory’s heart pounded. This was not happening. Damien couldn’t be in love with her. She was supposed to be with Aden.
But which one of them is actually here? Right now with you, defending you from danger? Her mind taunted. Shut up! She screamed at the persistent voice who plagued her.
Joel was grinned, obviously enjoying the small riot he had created.
“And who’s going to stop me from telling him? You are just a mangy shape shifter. I am a Vampire. Who do you supposed is faster?” Joel taunted.
“ You’re forgetting something.” Damien smiled, a slow smile that lit his face dangerously.
Joel sat back down with a thump. Glory blinked in confusion. Joel’s tendons in his face and neck bulged, almost like he was struggling. Then it hit her. Joel hadn’t known about Damien’s... gift. Glory had never been so thankful for Damien’s telekinetic abilities in her life.
His mouth opened and then snapped back close.
“Sorry. I don’t feel like hearing your voice at the moment, and neither does Glory.” Damien smiled, but it wasn’t a nice smile, it was dripping with acid.
“Damien.”
He turned quickly and was at Glory’s side.
“ Yeah?”
Glory stared up at him, taking in his sapphire blue eyes, surrounded by thick dark lashes, all the way down to his full lips.
He was beautiful. Simply beautiful. Almost as gorgeous as the Montez’s, which was amazing since he wasn’t a vampire.
“ Do you really love me?” Glory could hardly manage a whisper.
Damien’s blue eyes sparkled, and then they grew pained.
“ Yes.” His eyes closed, almost as if he was in pain, and turned his face away.
Glory’s chest rose and fell, not knowing what to say. This was just not good. She couldn’t deny she was attracted to Damien, but everyone else had told her that she was the only one who could break the spell placed on Aden. Did she really love Aden though? He had started off rude, but turned into someone who was sweet. But what about Damien? She didn’t even know if he was good. Just because he had saved her from freezing didn’t meant he was good now.
“ I don’t know what to say.” She admitted finally. His searing blue eyes came to focus back on her.
“ Oh Glory I know. I wasn’t expecting you to say anything. Everyone knows about the prophecy.”
Glory frowned and tried to sit up. Instead of using his mind, Damien’s warm hands slid underneath her and lifted her.
“ I just….I don’t even know him.” Glory admitted as Damien settled her back on the couch, tucking the blanket all around her, as close as possible.
“ But you love him” Damien supplied. He knew she was talking about Aden.
“ No. Yes. I mean, I thought I did. But I’m not sure now.” Glory said, and felt guilt stab through her when a flash of hope appeared in his beautiful blue eyes.
“ I just want you to know, I’m going to help them get you out of here. I’ve been letting Nicolas control me for too long.”
Glory smiled, hope filling her heart once again.
“ That’s wonderful, Damien. Thank you!” She threw the blanket off and threw her arms around his neck. She started to regret her decision, but when Damien’s long arms surrounded her and pulled herself closer, she relaxed.
“Glory, I wont let anything happen to you.” His soft whisper ruffled her hair as he rested his face in her hair.
“ I know.” She replied and cuddled closer. He was so warm. He leaned back and cupped her face with one hand, stroking her cheek with his thumb.
“ I’m going to hate myself for this later.” Damien said almost to himself, and then his lips brushed hers.
Glory stiffened as one sane part of her mind screamed at her that this wasn’t Aden. But it was too bad that the sane part was a very small portion of her mind. The other portion threw itself 99.9 percent into the kiss.
But his kiss wasn’t like her kiss with Aden. This one was more wild and out of control. Aden had seemed like he was being careful, while Damien was overly enthusiastic. His warm lips moved over hers, his tongue gently exploring her mouth.
Glory just kissed him right back. She allowed her fingers to trace over his hard body, up his arms, over his shoulders and eventually into his hair. His hair felt so different than Aden’s curls, but not in a bad way. Glory sighed a little into his mouth and shifted her position. Suddenly, it wasn’t Damien who was kissing her. Chocolate curls wrapped around her fingers and the lips were just a little bit fuller as they pulled her bottom lip into their mouth. Glory’s eyes flew open with a gasp. Sure enough, eyelids opened to unveil golden eyes, melting like honey.
“Aden.” She gasped again, her eyes going wide.
“ I told you that I would come for you. And I am. We’re on the way.” Glory blinked and grabbed at him in panic as he faded away.
“Glory, hey, you’re ok.” Glory opened her eyes to see Damien’s confused eyes looking at her. She looked down to see her fingers that had been trying to keep Aden with her, locked in Damien’s shirt.
She looked up at him, panic whirling through her brain.
“They’re coming.”

Chapter Three

I was relaxing on my bed, wallowing in my misery listening to music when something scraped against my window. I jumped and stifled a scream. It was dark outside and long shadows cast eerie shapes on my walls. I pulled off my head phones and scooted slowly off my bed. I could still hear D.H.T‘s Listen To Your Heart playing. How ironic. I creeped toward my window, preparing for something scary. I looked around. Nothing. I opened it and leaned my head out. Only darkness. I felt scared. My heart started pounding. I tried to breathe deeply but I felt like the...
