Jingo loved battle. He loved the adrenaline that pulsed through his veins, provoking his next attack, and the moment that came before his enemies
crumpled beneath him. He craved it.
He led his pack forward. He would finally find Ruban's litter and he would gladly kill each and every one of them. They were not young and helpless
anymore like he preferred, but he would still have no problem disposing of them on this raid. His pack had searched the mountains for Ruban's pack for many
moons, but were always unsuccessful, but finally they found the camp and would dispose of them all one by one.He knew many of the wolves in his pack may
not survive for this
was not a border skirmish and his enemies would know that when his wolves attacked their camp, but that was not his main concern. Those killed were only the weak
ones in his eyes.
They were almost there. Jingo remembered the place well even bathed in moonlight, and crept along the northern side where the only entrance was.
They were clever to pick such a well-hidden place that took him so long to find, but now he knew and they could not escape his power now. The wolves of his
pack filed in behind him into the camp while two stayed behind to prevent any escape. Yes, Ruban's pack was cornered like rabbits in their burrow, left at
Jingo's mercy.
The clearing was full of many wolves. All of them slept except a silver figure who layed on top of a fallen tree to watch over his pack, but he still didn't
detect the strangers lurking in the outer walls. No doubt he was the new leader of this pack.
"We should attack before they see us," Jingo's deputy Darque whispered.
Jingo felt his muscles tense, but he restrained himself from whirling on him. He could always do that after their golorious victory. He watched the sleeping
wolves for another few moments of watchful silence before breaking it with his blood-curdling battle cry. "Attack! Wolves of my pack, attack!"
He stood still and watched his pack surge forward led by Darque and leaped up onto a boulder to watch the battle unfold.
The enemies did not expect the attack and Jingo's pack was upon them before they could realize they were under attack. The clearing broke out into
the chaos of fighting. He could have gladly watched for awhile longer but he had a mission to accomplish. It was his job to find Ruban's pups among the fighting
and kill them. To do that he would have to find their mother, and she would reveal them to him for he had never seen the faces of destruction that they would
bestow upon his pack.
He weaved toward the dark den on the other side of the clearing, steering clear of the fighting for now to reach his destination. Suddenly the pack's
leader leaped in front of him, snarling. "Not another step. Get out of here!"
"I will leave when I get what I came for," Jingo growled and leaped forward, finishing Scarlet. He slumped to the ground limply and Jingo moved on,
leaving blood-stained pawprints behind him. He entered the den and at first he saw nothing but darkness, but then his eyes adjusted and he could pick out the
shadows of five tiny little bundles alongside a much bigger wolf.
Keera snarled protectively and stood between him and her pups. "If you hurt my pups then I will tear you apart. I promise that."
"Don't make promises you can't keep, my darling. But no, I don't plan on hurting them. They will make fine additions to my pack. These are not the ones
I'm looking for though. They are much older." Jingo's eyes turned away from the squirmy squeaking things with disgust. "And you are going to tell me where
they are."
"Is that the only reason why you're here?"
Jingo carelessly stepped over the pups, kicking one out of the nest. Keera rushed to its aid and nudged it back in the nest. "That is none of your business.
If you don't tell me where Ruban's brood is then I will start by eliminating these."
Keera watched with horror when Jingo planted a firm paw on top of her youngest, a silver and black patched one that shared her own black fur and
the silver splotches of Scarlet. She didn't meet his eyes when she said, "They all died. One died on the night it was born and sickness took my other three. They are
all dead," she lied, but still her voice cracked with grief for her other three. No, Ruby was still alive. Russet told her everything.
"You are lying." The pup beneath his paw whimpered and looked up at Jingo with round puppy-blue eyes. Keera's heart twisted with sympathy.
"No," Jingo said. "You can not conceal the truth from me, and you will tell me. Until you reveal them to me, your packmates will continue to die one by
one." He did not intend to hide the blood on his paws and he hungrily drank in Keera's fear when she looked down at them. "It is your decision."
