Anime Question

Questions for any anime artists on here!

Do you usually draw using a picture reference or using descriptions or both? If you draw (or can draw) from description, do you just need basic details on looks, or lots of highly detailed details (like details on body physique, facial structure, personality to do eyes since in anime a charries eyes sort of reflects there personality)?
