Rin sighed deeply and walked in "Please excuse the intrusion Haku-san, but our friend here is in a very specific predicament. We need a Autonomous Lip-Sync Operator and the Influx Detection System."
Haku's eyes widened when she mentioned these two strangely named items "Why do you need the MMD?! Did something happen?! Did you break yours?!"
Len cut in and spoke softly "N-No! We didn't break our Voices! We just need a favor for our friend, she was in an accident and can't physically sing any more but apparently she was proud of her terrible singing from before... So Please!" He begged her on his knees
Haku turned away "Ugh!! How are you so damn adorable when you're just a kid!?" She sighed and went over to a shrine of a picture of a Young man and Woman together. "Mother, father, We need your blessings once again, for a young girl who dreamt of singing. Just like I did... Help her... Please..." She prayed and pulled on a large Candle-Lever and the Shrine turned into the wall revealing a staircase that led down. "She went in somewhat and stopped, she looked back and whispered "Follow me..."
At this point Miku was fully awake and able to stand on her own but she didn't seem to want to.
Haku continued down the dark hallway into a large Laboratory. "This is the Musical Master Device, also known as Project MMD. We can augment your Vocal chords with a special Machine we attach to your body and when a special device called the VOC or Vocal Output Calibratory-device, by feeding the signals through the Autonomous Lip-sync Operator, or ALO, it can Augment your Voice to reach higher and lower pitches and allows you to change the tone of your voice with ease. then comes in the Influx Detection System, or the IDS, detects and trashes White Noise and Flux in the speech/music patters when singing to help the resulting sound waves to register as Clean and Clear to listeners. All in all, Project VOCALOIDS. Pretty ingenious if I do say so myself..."
Kaito stared at the machine in awe "Wh-Whoa, You developed all of this? It's incredible"
Haku paused and drooped her head "Actually, no. I didn't invent all of this myself. It was a dear friend of mine. He's gone now."
Kaito realized immediately what she meant and bowed " I am very sorry, I didn't mean anything by it." He looked up and sighed "So, you're saying that this thing can help Miku here regain her voice?"
"Yes, although she will technically be an augmented Human, a cyborg, kind of. A Vocaloid. Are you okay with that? Miku?" She turned to look at Miku, still devastated.
Kaito looked at her fearfully "Please, do this, if you want to sing again. It made you so happy before, please, be happy again." He pleaded to her.
"Okay" She said quietly as she took her first few steps in a long time towards Haku.
"This won't hurt a bit. Lie down here and just close your eyes."
Miku nodded complying with Haku's instructions. She lied down on the table and slowly closed her eyes.
"Let's begin..."
"Let's get going for now, Kaito-kun" Len said as he turned Kaito around "Haku-san needs time for this, you can wait upstairs with us."
When they got upstairs Kaito was quivering.
"Are you okay? I know it must be hard for someone with such a deep connection to your friend to --"
"What if she's not sober enough and she screws up?!"
"Oh. Yeah. That. She's a Professional Drinker, she was completely sober already. She's also Immune to Hangovers so yeah. that's why they call her the Booze Queen sometimes." Rin commented.
Kaito looked at her "She better have been, I'm not going to forgive her if she hurts Miku in any way!"
"You two are so cute together." Rin cooed mockingly
"Oh be quiet! Anyway, how long until the operation is done?"
Len checked his watch "It'll be about two and a half hours. It varies per person though so I can only roughly estimate."
Kaito nodded "I understand. At least it's the weekend. Is it okay if I stay here until she's done?"
"Of course." They both said.
"Thank you" He managed to crack a genuine smile after all of the turmoil
The time passed and they kept talking, they talked about everything from what kind of foods they liked to the meaning of life, by the way the answer is 42. The hours passed by and finally Haku and Miku emerged from the darkness of the hallway.
"She's done. It was a success!" She smiled
Miku had tears rolling over her cheeks and a smile plastered on her face, she was elated "I can sing again!" She laughed and cried and everything in between. She ran to Kaito and hugged him. "Thank you so much Kaito-kun...!
"Anything for my best friend" She said with a smile as he ruffled her hair.
"How cute..." Haku said underher breath as she watched all of them celebrate, she held a bottle in her hand, she lifted it up as to take a sip but stopped before her lips met the rim and she sighed, she put the bottle down and smiled, "Well, well." She reminds me of a younger, well. ME"
