A Baby For Christmas - PG/ bordering on light M - Family - Warning: some language.
A/N: Written for the Christmas 2012 Fic Exchange over at ag-fics. This is dedicated to kbrand5333 who requested the following prompt: Baby for Christmas. Gwen either tells Arthur she's pregnant at Christmas or she goes into labor with their first child Christmas morning (preferably the 2nd option, but author's choice). I hope you like it Kim! And Merry Christmas!

It started early Christmas Day. Arthur felt his wife tossing and turning more than usual, before she let out a huge gasp, like she was in early shattering pain. Then a "fuck", and Arthur shot up faster than a rocket, before he placed his arm around her shoulder.
"What's wrong?" He asked, voice filled with concern, though it was also laced with excitement. They were going to be parents finally. After three years of failed IVF treatments and none of the embryos working. They took a break, accepting the fact that maybe they should take a break and consider adoption. For there were many children out there that needed love and nurturing as well as a home.
However, just when they had gone through the legalities of adopting a child from China, Gwen got ill. At first, she thought it was a really bad case of the flu, but then it lasted for a few weeks and she finally went to the doctors at Arthur's persist urging. When the doctor told her that she was actually pregnant, Gwen couldn't believe it. Literally, the doctor had to pick her up from the floor.
But nothing compared to Arthur's face when she told him. He looked indescribably happy that as soon as she told him, he gathered her into his arms, lifted her up and spun her around a few times. So much so that Gwen had to remind him that she was pregnant and if he didn't want her to throw up on him, he'd better stop.
"It's...time," Gwen managed to get out through a few labored breaths. Then Arthur felt some warmish liquid on the bed-sheets. Luckily he knew what it was, as he attended anti-natal classes, it was just her waters breaking. Quickly he got out from under the sheets, before he proceeded to Gwen's side of the bed. He took out his hand, offering it for Gwen to hold. He could tell from the way her face was contorting that she was in a massive amount of pain.
"How far are they apart?" He asked gently, while Gwen grabbed his hand and begun gripping it tightly as another contraction hit her.
"Not that far apart," She muttered out, and Arthur flew into action.

Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at the hospital after Arthur speed through half a dozen traffic lights.
And twenty minutes more, Arthur sat on his wife's bed as he held their little bundle of joy. A girl.
"Merry Christmas," his wife whispered softly as they both watched their little girl sleep, Gwen's finger went to touch her little hands, amazed at how small they were.
"Merry Christmas," he replied ardently before he turned and placed a kiss to his wife's forehead. "What do you think? The best Christmas present ever?"
"Without a doubt."
