So this is new fan-fiction I'm trying out for size! Takes place past Season 5, though I've tweeked a few things... they've never announced Arthur's death (he never died, but still missing along with Merlin). Here's Part 1(I know it's short. Just wanted to introduce it) Enjoy, ladies!

It’s been a month and Gwen is still insistent on finding Arthur. Day by day she sends patrols of men to find her husband. Her king. The sun looms further down over Camelot and she just sits alone in her chambers thinking to herself, holding the royal seal in her hand. Her whole being is numb; it has been ever since she returned to Camelot with Arthur absent from her side. Moments pass and she gently hums a tune that was played at her and Arthur’s wedding. For a brief second she is happy again as her mind floats back to their first dance as husband and wife.

“I’ve never seen you dance before.” utters Gwen as they move to the music.
“I’ve been saving my skills for you, love.”
“Ah, well I would have hoped so. You know I’m the only one who won’t judge you and your two left feet.” Gwen giggles to herself.
Arthur chuckles at this and tries to correct his mistakes as they move across the hall. Gwen notices his efforts and says, “That’s better.” Arthur simply smiles and gazes down to look at the face of his one true love. He admires the glow of her skin, the scent of her hair, the shape of her lips, the gleam in her eyes.
“I love you.” Arthur says softly as he holds her close in his arms. Gwen trails her hand up from his shoulder and places it around his neck. She leans her head against his chest and smiles, holding in blissful tears with every effort.
“I’ve loved you for so long, Arthur.” She suddenly looks him in the face. “My heart and soul have ached for you all these years…and now...I’m yours. It seems when I had lost everything you slowly entered into my life.” A few tears start to fall from her eyes as she continues. “When I lost my father I was sure that I would love no man ever again. Yet here you are. All the man I could ever need. I love you. I never want to be without you.”
Arthur gently wipes the tears from her cheeks and his heart can do nothing but swell and overflow with the love and passion he has for the woman in front of him.
“I’ll always love you, Guinevere. I’ll never leave you. I promise.”

Gwen is brought back to the present at the remembrance of his words. Before she can drown herself in the tears that have just been waiting to fall, a soft knock is heard at the door. Gwen stands and collects herself.

“Come” she says with a slight quiver in her voice.
Leon enters as Gwen rushes to hear of any new reports. He’s alive? You found him?
“I’m sorry your highness. There’s been no change of word or knowledge…the king may be…” Before he can finish his thought, Gwen shoots back with a harsh and hurt undertone.
“Don’t say it, Leon!” Gwen can feel herself starting to shake and fume with pain and agony. Tears run down her face and she screams. “I know he’s alive! I know he’s out there! …He promised he would never leave me, Leon! He is going to return! Any…minute! …he’s…going to walk through that door!” Gwen can stand no more and she falls to her knees sobbing. Leon rushes over to her side and she collapses in his arms letting out all her pain and frustration. They sit for a long while until Gwen has slightly recovered. As her sobs soften, Leon speaks.
“Your highness, I will continue my search as best I can. I want you to know that we are all here for you during this time. But, Camelot needs a leader. You are still the queen and we still hold you in very high regard. You have the power and ability to rule over Camelot just as well as Arthur. We have faith and believe you, sire. The people love you and there is no greater ruler right now than the queen of Camelot. You.” Gwen slowly rises and collects herself once more.
“Thank you, Leon. But Arthur will return. And when he does he will rule over Camelot just the same.”
“Your highness….”
“Goodnight, Leon.”

Leon bows and exits, leaving Guinevere on her own. Now alone, she turns and walks toward her closet to retrieve her nightdress. As she opens the wooden doors, her eyes take her in a different direction. She examines Arthur’s clothing and gathers his red shirt. She holds it for a moment, slowly bringing it to her nose. Fresh tears fall down her cheeks and wet the red cloth in her hands. Her mind made up, she moves behind the changing screen and comes out moments later draped in his clothing. She walks throughout the room, blowing out all the candles except one. The same one she has used each night of Arthur’s missing. She brings the candle and places it in the windowsill across from her bed.
“Arthur, as long as this candle burns, so burns the fire and passion that’s still alive in my heart. Let it guide you home to me. I’ll be here waiting. I love you.”
Gwen watches as the sun disappears and can’t help but believe that Arthur is watching it too.
