Ok, if I have time I'll post another one before the weekend, but I can't promise:( I'll be camping during the weekend (I know what you guys are thinking: She just came from vacations and is already going away again:P Don't worry it's just for the weekend.. “I was shocked to see the repercussions that looking for your parents had brought. To see government agents in my house, next to you and your mother terrified me! I kept asking myself who were your parents and what they had done!” The memories of that day came flashing back to my mind…
“Those two man all those years ago were agents?” Derek asked. He finally was accepting that I needed to tell him his story!
“Secret agents… They were from the Secret Services!” The look on his face surprised me! I was excepting shock, fear, rage, so many other feelings but acceptance wasn’t one of them! It seemed that to him, all of this was normal!
“And may I ask why?” I asked… There was something really wrong about all of this and I needed to figure it out!
“That’s classified information. The only thing we are allowed to tell you is that the Smiths worked for the government.” Agent Travis said.
“Excuse me! My husband isn’t a terrorist trying to attack our country! We are just looking for information related to the Smiths because we adopted their son. We just want to be able, in a few years, to tell him who were is parents and what happened to them! Can you blame us for that?” Caroline jumped in.
“I’m sorry, ma’am! But that isn’t our job to decide! We are just following orders. So if you would please respect it, stop looking for information related with the Smiths!” I heard Agent Hodgins.
“And if I don’t?” I asked. I have gone this fair I couldn’t stop now!
“Then we’ll be forced to put you under arrest! Don’t make us do that, Mr. Wilson!” I saw agent Travis come menacing towards me, and for the first time since I started to look for the Smiths I was afraid. Not afraid of going to jail, not afraid that agent Travis could beat me up! I was afraid of losing my family, of losing Derek, of losing Caroline! I was afraid to lose my world, my life! For the first time since we had Derek I was afraid! We were a family, a true family.
“All right, then! Now if you don’t mind I would like to spend the rest of my afternoon with my family!” I went to the door and opened it while I talked!
“Of course… Thank you for everything, Mr and Mrs Wilson! It was a pleasure. Please keep in mind what we talked about, we do not want to get back here!” Agent Travis and Hodgins headed to the door and went away.
I watched them walk into their car and drive away, and for some reason I saw part of Derek’s past go with them!
Three weeks passed… My daily life resumed on going to work, working, coming home and spending time with my family! Part of me was happy with this routine, radiant even… But another part of me was felling like I was betraying my son, betraying his past and future for not following with my search. Part of me felt awful for leaving my son’s past, his history, untouched! In my head I knew that he deserved to know everything but another part was always thinking: “His parents left him with no one! No one to watch out for him! No one to tell him who he was!”. We had gave in a family, me and Caroline were is parents now, we were his family!
So, one sunny afternoon after work I arrived home. As always I went to the mail box to see what was new and found, to my surprise, a note:
“I have information regarding the Smiths that you might want…. Meet me tomorrow afternoon at five o’clock in the Navy Pier. I’ll find you!”
